Your favourite cartoon intro

We have a lot of great series out there, but not so many cool or memorable introductions.

So what's your favourite? (Music/art/insight/catchiness)

I'm going to have to start off with 'the men in black'. Really simple I guess, but somehow brilliant.

Ugh…this is almost impossible for me to choose. Pretty much anything that was around for a while in the 80's to early 90's.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Duck Tales, Count Duckula, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, He-Man, G.I. Joe, Jem and the Holograms.

Tons of great anime openings too, but this is under western animation, so I won't list those. (How about Robotech, since it was localized so heavily? :P)

Also don't hesitate to name a few if you can't pick just one. It probably changes for us all day to day anyway.

I actually have the Inspector Gadget soundtrack and it's very worth listening to, it's one of the unappreciated gems of western animation.

I'll be honest here, some of them are pretty bad. Maybe back in the day they were ok, but really did age badly.

And who can forgot this gem (might be cheating a bit since it's a dub, but its pretty well edited)

This one surprised me, both for an adaptation and just how jazzy yet catchy it is. Still sing it to this day.

My childhood right here, was always a staple for both weekday and weekend mornings. And really, you gotta give props to the sax player, dude was killing it.

There were two version of this opening, but I prefer this one. Felt more in line with the original series.

Man I feel old =P.

Does it have Penny's theme? I've tried finding it on youtube but the only one I find is a more "triumphant" variation of it. The one I'm thinking of is a little more…ah..mysterious sounding.

As for the thread: I can't help but notice the older stuff is reigning supreme. Is that because we are all so nostalgic, or has the modern quality of intros dropped?

I think somebody mentioned the X-Men opening earlier, but I don't think they mentioned the Japanese opening for the same show.

Nah just hard to come by nowadays, lot of shows like to be rush rush and just do the title and get to the episode.

Like for example, Amazing World of Gumball. In the states it just goes to the title screen and thats all. But outside of it…

And…..eh what the hell. Since were on the verge of continuing One Piece on TV this week, why not do a little throw back to the dawning horror we all experience that faithful fall morning in 2004.

The 80's and early 90's ruled for theme songs. Nowadays its changed so that generally themes are 10 second instrumentals with a logo card, so that more commercial time can be squeezed in.

Kim Possible had a pretty decent opening, but the best modern one is Adventure Time.

It may not seem like it, but when you think of all the stuff it shows off in the first ten seconds, or that the lyrics say everything you need to know in only 28 words… it's pretty crazy.

Early 00's had some pretty good intros, too. Samurai Jack comes to mind, if more for Aku's opening words than the proceeding Jack rap. I loved Invader Zim's too.

Of course my favorites (outside of the Venture Bros) go to efforts done by great musicians. Les Claypool did intros for South Park and Robot Chicken, though South Park wins between those two. I love how the intro to South Park always changed with the shape and scope of the show. My all time favorite, though, is the B-52s Rocko intro. I know the B-52s came in to do the intro starting season 2, so the ridiculousness of the opening scenes had been in place, but there's something about having the band there that just adds so much to the new wave aesthetic the show had going. I wish I could find the clip, but you can probably track it down by means other than youtube (the season 1 intro is up there, but it just isn't the same).

Though, to be fair, people who make shows for Disney Channel can get away with things like that since they don't air commercials. I'm kind of surprised that the intros aren't hacked down for Disney XD.

My favourite modern ones are megas xlr & samurai jack…and having written that I realise they're now like ten years old.

There's a lot of good stuff already said (Tcats, Duckula, every eighties disney theme)

Also, this specific Reboot opening. When I first saw it my mind was blown. Don't watch it if you haven't seen reboot and intend on doing so someday.

I really love thier more experimental openings. Recenly the Robot Chicken one is my favorite. Before that, it was the Banksy one and the one that resembles the style of Ren and Stimpy.

People liked the evolution of mankind one, but I tend to think the worse ones are the ones that drag for too long.
