I finally chosen a path for myself that I want to follow through. It took me sometime to finally realize that I'm only really good at one thing: languages.
They fascinate me, I'm interested in them, and I feel passion towards them. So, of course, I want to have a job involving dealing with them.
Also, interestingly enough, I appear to adore Germanic languages more than the others. English, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish.
I have several questions, that I think some of you can answer better than the internet. I say this because in the past, you gave me great advice.
The main question is: What kind of jobs involve languages beside interpreting and translating? What can one do with linguistics to make a living (preferably good)?
Mainly, it is the connection between languages that fascinates me the most and the structure which behind them. Why some languages say something in a particular way, different expressions and so on.
The question above is already very hard, and while I realize that, I'll pose some others as well. They'll be simpler and easier, rest assured.
Let's look at the near future. I just finished my second to last year in high-school. This year, I went to French and Physics faculty. The latter was a mistake, but I think it wasn't great enough to mess up anything I can't fix relatively easily. However, next year, I want to choose better. Now comes the problem. I have no idea that out of History and Literature, which one would be the best for me. I kind of know what they did this year, so if you want, I can write a thing or two about them.
My last question is about university. I, of course, plan to start it here, in Hungary, but after a year or two, I'd like to go abroad somewhere, preferably learning a new language as well. Do you know any famous universities that work with languages and such? In Europe of course. I'd prefer somewhere in Scandinavia, but France, Britain, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium would be good too.
I thank you in advance for any useful advice or even just for taking time to read this long text.
