Time for One Piece!
-
One minute and counting…
-
C'mon One Piece!!
-
Aaaaaaannnnnnndddddd…......SHOWTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Here we go!!! Yay!
-
Here we gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!
-
Darn cut intro, I was afraid of that.
-
SET SAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Seriously hating how Bleach is like the only thing they ever give a full intro for.
-
Man, One Piece looks goooood on TV!
-
They cut my intro.
It's over.
Fuck everything. I'll be in my bunk.
-
Dont forget to Twit!
-
Glorious HD. I love it.
-
Its Bellamy and Doflamango!!!
-
This episode is a really really wierd starting point to bring new viewers in on.
-
Well now this scene seems out of place, probably should have edited it out.
-
Heh strange seeing him now knowing his role later in the story. Eh?
-
The King of Dressrosa himself…...
-
They're gonna have no idea who this is, sure, but it does show them that One Piece has more meat to it than what they're about to see in Davy Back fight arc. There's interesting ideals and it's quite violent.
-
We did give ample warning to newcomers to catch up on their own. Plus they had a lot of extra time.
-
Forgot how "dramatic" Doflamingo was. =P
-
Good to see you smoking a cigarette, Sanji.
-
One Piece is trending in the US on Twitter!!!
-
I don't tweet but I signed into my dusty Twitter account to help the cause. Thanks for lettin' us know!
This is making me smile :3
-
So, the dub had 200 episodes to figure out what they were doing before this point… why is the dub still horrible?
I mean, it's not 4Kids bad, but... it's pretty bad on most of the voices.
-
Lol Chopper is on crack :D
-
LOL at Usopp and Chopper's faces.
-
LMAO at the snow leopard's head.
-
They're shortening my favorite ending as well.
Sigh.
-
Loved it. So, thoughts?
-
That was a great episode of One Piece.
-
I'm imagining a lot of the Twitter tweets are either "dafuq was that" or "the creators of this show must be high as hell." I loved that episode personally. Introduced a lot of elements, gives the crew time to bond before the turmoil of Water 7. If the anime makes it that far.
I forgot how amusing all those long animals are :3
-
Why the fuck did they decide to start with THAT episode? With this arc in fact? I can understand starting with Water 7 cause the assassin guys in black thing is good for the casual audience, and you need to show Davy Back to set up Aokiji… but... it's going to be like a year before they get to the part of water 7 that has the broader appeal.
ANyone new to the show is going to be completely lost... (especially with all the Bellamy/Dofmlamingo stuff that won't be relevant for YEARS) and the Davy Back fight is one of the least liked arcs even by the fans... and that's BEFORE the anime fillers it out.
I can only assume they picked this arc to appeal to the potheads right off the bat.
-
Pretty amazing to see One Piece on my TV again.
-
Interesting tidbit. One Piece is currently beating the Saturday Night Live Finale in trending.
!

That plus the mediocre dubbing is already putting people off of it.
It was a bad move on all ends.
-
Jaya would have been a better starting point but I guess they didn't want to start there again after what happened last time.

It's a tad confusing, since Toonami fully aired the Jaya arc in Europe, and stopped in America
-
I don't know. Every decision has it's consequences. I'm just hoping people will stick it through this arc and the filler to the Water 7/Enies Lobby arc. If they can, then this will have been the best choice.
-
It was a great episode, as stated by Sano above. I wish the opening and ending was a bit longer. I also wished they kept the preview for the next episode, but I guess there is not enough time for all of that. But overall, it was really good. Glad to see it back. :D
-
First time I've read live tweets in a while, most people seemed like they enjoyed it. Even the people with no clue what's going on.
-
Robby and Pyromonki, stop with your negativity already. If you dont like the way One Piece is dubbed, fine, but dont take your Opinions as fact for everyone else.

That was in Australia actually.

I'm on a toonami thread in /a/ right now, I'm merely repeating their opinions on it.
Some people are turned off by the dub. It's reality, deal with it.
And even then, we're on a ONE PIECE forum. If someone is here, it's not like a few negative posts would turn someone off from the series.
Sorry, but I'm not going to hold my opinion just because you don't agree with it.
It's good that it's trending on twitter, that means that the majority like it.
And my bad.
-
I dont like the dub either, but you shouldnt ruin everyone elses fun.
Also Robby, here's why they started with that episode.
Q: Why do you want to start from episode 207, specifically?
FUN: Deciding where to start was a very tricky decision. One Piece is so character driven that you really miss out by not knowing the back story to each Straw Hat.
We kept two things in mind when deciding where we needed to start: viewership and fandom.
It’s important that we start off on the right foot with One Piece and get a strong number of viewers. If One Piece doesn’t grab the attention with the Toonami audience, then it won’t be on the air long enough to make the impression we want it to make.
Episode 207 is a great starting point for many reasons.
It is the first episode to be aired in the 16x9 widescreen format. For the modern anime fan, which is used to this being the norm, you circumvent the risk of immediately not appealing to them because the show appears dated.
It gives the series the opportunity to stay on track with the steady stream of new English dub releases. If we started from Episode 1, there is a good chance that many of the viewers have already seen these episodes in some shape or form in the past.
While the Davy Back Fight Arc is hit-or-miss with some of the more hardcore fans, it provides a hefty amount of set up into Water 7 and Enies Lobby, which is filled with some of the series’ best action sequences, character moments, and offers a hefty dose of backstory for people new to the series. Not to mention, we get Afro Luffy!
The second thing we kept in mind was the fandom. How did the existing, hardcore One Piece fans of today come to be? The vast majority of these fans did not start from Episode 1 and just decided to keep watching. Many of them were introduced to One Piece somewhere in the middle, or during a pinnacle Arc. This was enough to get them to fall in love with the series and voluntarily go back and start at the beginning. We’re hoping to keep that trend going, and we make it very easy for new fans that do fall in love to catch up on what they’ve missed. -

It would be absurd to assume that there wouldn't be any negative reactions, so I'm also glad that the majority of people seem to like it (as shown by Twitter). Also, since the majority of people watching Toonami watch anime on a regular basis, they probably know the format or will look up the arcs online themselves. Those that don't I believe will be drawn in by the quirkiness of the Davey Back Fight arc; and if they can make it through the filler arc that follows, water 7 will take them in.

Ok, Im sorry, I didnt mean to censor you or anything. But know that /a/ thing doesnt mean the dub is objectively bad and that they dont have a final say on what goes.
-
Are you guys really hating on the dub after just this random episode?
The Funimation dub has done a great job with the dubbing of One Piece. If you don't believe me, just watch the Water 7 arc dubbed.
Plus, Toonami announced they were starting at 207 almost a month ago.
-
The more people that get into one piece the better. It's fun to watch new reactions to it.
And the insight of why they started here makes sense.
It'll be interest to see where this goes.
I find it kinda odd that Funi is cutting both the OP and the ED though. Does OP run longer than most normal shows?
Edit: No ONE is saying their opinion is fact. Some people don't like the dub and are put off by it, some are put off by the silly antics.
I was merely stating how some people perceive it.
And I have watched the dub up until Water 7, wasn't all too impressed aside from some scenes. The one-liner guys are really terrible to me.

They wont change their minds, if they hated it thus far, they will hate it till the end.And the dub wasnt made for Japanophiles, it was to attract new audiences. Sure, some newcomers dont like it either, but we shouldnt cry over spilled milk. Lets be happy about those the dub is introducing One Piece to.

All the anime openings and endings on Toonami except for Bleach get cut.
It was expected.
