Don't know if this really belongs in this thread, but I checked an article on sjalpha.com and at the bottm it shows the SJ fan meet-ups at cons this year:

Has the Viz Media app for IOS updated Alpha at all? Or is it just my settings on it screwing with it. I've got the first issue of Alpha on it, but it hasn't added the other two issues on it and I can't find it for download. I know it's not my account because I get them online alright.
It's a shame because I'm hating the format of Alpha on the computer, and love it on the Iphone.
-
where's my fucking android app for this thing? i wants it
D:
-
Just to note, if you want to download issues of Alpha on you IOS devices, you have to download it on VizManga.com first.
-
I do have them added on my manga on Alpha. But it won't even show up as an option to buy on the app, or show up in the subscription, and my settings are set for it to alert me if there is an update to the subscription.
-
Does Shonen Jump ALPHA have the color pages?

Is ALPHA worth subscribing to? I've been seriously considering it lately.

It is in my opinion. Even though it's three weeks behind where the scanlations are, the quality of the translations and even the pages themselves are much better than a scanlation. If you haven't, you can check out Issue 0 on VizManga.com, for free.
-

Yes and not only that but the covers for Alpha are the same as the coorisponding issue of WSJ, assuming that cover contains characters from One Piece, Naruto, Toriko, Bleach, Bakuman。, and Nura of course.

Oi thanks! I checked out the free issue.. I like. I'm going to stop reading the scanlations for OP then I think i'll order ALPHA when it gets to 658.

Someone knows how to purchase ALPHA from outside the states? I'm living in Germany… Thx!

At the moment Alpha is only available in U.S.A. and Canada. Until it becomes available in more countries I would suggest contacting Shueisha and/or VIZ. Maybe I'll find some contact info later. Actually maybe try looking up the official shonen jump facebook page.
-
So would you guys say this is worth it if the only thing on WSJ I'd be reading would be One Piece?

The only thing I'm reading is One Piece. I haven't considered it a waste of money.

Moneywise? yeah
Timewise? Toriko and Bakuman are worth your time. I don't know about Nura.

Yep, this has been known since they put up that con list in January…

So, do they use Stephen's translations for the whole series? The ones that were previously available for free?
Also, are they still 3 weeks behind? Why are they even behind at all? I would like to conveniently support the author, but this is really close to being a deal breaker for me. Also, once you subscribe, you can freely download as much manga as you want, correct?
Thanks for any answers.

As far as I know Stephen started translating at the start of Alpha, and the translations that were there before Stephen started remain.
Also, they're two weeks behind. Specifically, two weeks behind the Japanese street date, because a lot of times scanlators get leaked copies of the chapters. None of us really know why there's a delay; could be scheduling, materials, who knows. but most likely Shueisha being conservative about a simultaneous release. When you subscribe you get a year's access to each issue. For example, an issue you receive on March 12th will expire the same day next year. It's not an all-you-can-eat deal. If you want to know more just check out vizmanga.com.
It does suck that Alpha is behind, it really shouldn't be. But the best thing to do is if you're not going to subscribe to support it (because supporting it will give Shueisha more incentive to get rid of the time gap), you should kindly tell VIZ and Shueisha your concerns.

I know this is probably a really dense/stupid question, so I apologize in advance….
I don't have a subscription to ALPHA yet, but really want one..Is there a way to get one without paypal/amazon, or anything credit card related?
There's probably an address to send the money, but I'm blind and can't find it on the site. -
What are your guys problems with alpha?
-
@ Nodensuke - I wouldn't know, but i'm sure there is a number you can call, for some kind of check or mail in payment.

I love it, and being 2 weeks behind with absolutely perfect translations really puts perspective into the scans I read ahead of time. It's there 10am sharp for me, the picture quality is epic, and navigating the pages are easy as well. And what's even better than the scan's is that the cover pages aren't covered in crap, it's the full original picture without a fan's attempt at redrawing portions of it.
The price is wonderful as well.

I have a question.
If I got it now would I be able to access the older issues of SJAlpha they released or would I only be able to read the current one?

Starts with the issue currently out, and continues for one year/48 issues. So no, back issues aren't included.

Hey, I'm not too sure if anybody can answer this question but I am not able to download the Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha app on my Samsung Galaxy Tablet as it is "not compatible with [my] device".
I live in Australia so I was wondering whether the android app has not gone international or if it's my tablet itself.
Thanks guys.

Is it a 10 inch tablet? I don't think the app supports those.
-
I was able to get the app on my 10" Android tablet through the Amazon app store. Of course, I don't know if they have that in Australia - and if they do, whether or not it has the Viz app.
-
Downloaded the amazon app store and it stil wouldn't allow me.
Anyone know if Viz are looking to get it on 10 inchers? If not, it is seeming pretty hard to read weekly manga legally.

Do you know if there's any possibility for ALHPA to be available in Europe too? The question's been asked before, but maybe something new came up?

It's already in a few European countries, United Kingdoms, Ireland and New Zealand.
-
It's available in a few English speaking countries however it's still only available on android and apple devices so you can't view it on your computer via a browser.

The Viz edition IS the official version. Fan scans are not Viz.

Ah, okay. Then I'll have to research if it's also available in Germany. Don't know if I'd get it though, don't read that many SJ series (and they'll become even less with Naruto and Bleach ending). Am concentrating on volume buys for now, anyway.
And stephen, do you know if a second OP box set is in the planning already?
-
I don't know that. I'm not an employee.
I also don't know the status of expanding the digital coverage to more countries, but I imagine that a market like Germany's is a much more difficult process to negotiate because the German publisher will already have a deal that severely complicates the rights to sell there.

Okay, thanks for replying, though! And keep up the good work! =)
what i mean is has any fan scaned the viz op manga they obtained to the internet?
like someone bought a volume or borrowed from the school library and scaned it..It's a bit…rude to ask something like that in here. It's cool enough that stephen still interacts with a forum where the majority of people read only scans anyway, but asking for scanned Viz volumes is just outrageous. If someone did something like that, they'd be taken down pretty quickly, I presume.

i borrowed a viz's volume 1 from the library and thought if there is no one scaned it on the internet i thought i could scan it to let ppl have a look on the viz translation. thats why i asked the question here.
Viz offers the first chapter absolutely free on their site, so if anyone wants to "have a look at the Viz translation", they can do that. Don't scan the official release. All it does is undermine Viz and hurts them as a company, which kinda sucks since, you know, they release the series over her. No Viz = No more OP releases over here.
Also, like DemonX said, really rude to come in here and ask for scans of Viz's translation when Stephen, the guy who translates for them, posts here regularly. Not cool.
So, in summation, don't. Just don't.

like someone bought a volume or borrowed from the school library and scaned it..This is the wrong place to ask that my friend…That type of behavior is frowned upon here :getlost:

Just got a subscription and it's definitely worth it, I'll probably adjust my schedule to read new chapters on Mondays.
A question though, is the ToC for SJ alpha similar to the Japanese issue in that the more popular series are earlier in that week's lineup? Based upon the American surveys online?
Thanks in advance.
-
The survey results don't really have any effect, the order is basically created from scratch every time. They shuffle everything around, but there were a few general trends (i.e. they almost always had DBZ color in the back)
