Awesome avatar synergy!
Dangan Ronpa (Translated VN via SA) [Spoilers through DRV3]
-
Awesome avatar synergy!
-
I hope the game doesn't pull a MC switch twist right in the first chapter, that would make me feel silly.
-
Nah this is just a game based on his Dangan Ronpa fanfic where he is a self-insert character who is a white-haired tall pretty boy with a cool name.
Also he made Togami fat because he hates Togami.
This makes more sense than it should…
It'd become even more apparent if we saw maizono, kirigiri, and asahina all mud wrestling inexplicably on the island.

Daw starshock and IceBorg look so cute in their matching avatars
Also if anybody else regrettably clicks on that spoiler, do be aware that it's not the full story and it might be misleading in some parts so you'll still have surprises for the actual chapter.
-
I thought for a second the spoiler was for chapter 1 of DR1, never closed a spoiler so quick, glad that the first image didn't show anything really spoilery like the first one in the first game with Maizono being scary as fuck.
I really don't want to be a be seen as a dick but…..what is even the point of posting that? We had a clean thread this whole time, like I don't mind people saying names, skills and avatars because that was avaiable from the start on the oficial sites and such but posting stuff like that now???
And I know its behind a warning and a spoiler tag(but its pretty small warning for that type of spoiler) , but some people wouldn't even look at it if you didn't post it and no won't get suprised later and the whole experience is ruined!
I'm sorry if people think I'm overreacting here but SuperFranky can you delete that??? I don't want to leave this thread because stuff like this could happen now and I really like to discuss this game with people here but it won't but fun when I have that small doubt people know way more.
-
Yeah… I'm going to avoid this thread now.

Ok moving on now…..pyromonki you should also remove that if its about that spoiler.
Hopefully many people who visit this thread didn't see that.
Sorry….

Removed.
I really wish these games were translated into english so I could play them myself.
I don't want to read a guide to play a game like this.
-
Well with the coming anime maybe more people will take notice of it, at least if there is a third game, if the anime does good with english fans, maybe there is a chance it can be translated.
Of course I'm not a expert on that stuff so I don't really know if it works like that.

It's pretty dire, you'd have to consider if a release would happen the first platform that will be considered is of course the vita(because easy portability and distribution via psn) which isn't exactly an ideal starting platform with there only being about 4 million out there. Consider gran turismo 5 which sold "only" about 6-7 million copies with a ps3 install base of something like 70 million.
Now the way I see it there are 2 other ways that would be be possible but don't seem viable right now.
One of them would be of course a pc port(probably quite a bit of work) and selling via steam. Now I'm not entirely sure if I remember this right but there are several article on siliconera about this company called mangagamers who publish visual novels, which dangan ronpa fits into.
According to them the only way to get onto steam for them without unfeasible cost would be through steam greenlight, which doesn't seem to be happening due the different factors involved of how games get voted onto steam. The other way would be via Kickstarter but that doesn't seem feasible either, considering the game there has to be quite some recoding done (a major part of the minigames), then there is the translation, (marketing), distribution fees(certification through psn I think was like 40k dollars) and probably one of the most costly things for this the voice work be it relicensing or dubbing.
I don't expect it to be any cheaper than 500k and realistically speaking it's probably a quite bit more.So dire indeed.
It's pretty much up to fan projects to make this game playable for western audiences at this point, I don't think there is much hope for an official translation and would go even as far as to say at this point it would be even more feasible just to start learning the language if you really want to play it.
Opens you up to quite a bit of entertainment beyond that as a bonus. -
The first game is already on iOS devices, but I don't know how well it did in the Japanese market.
Anyway, update. We get introduced to the best character; I don't know how they're going to top him.
Also, really neat matching avatars!

Yeah, I agree. Gundam pretty much makes everybody else look lame in comparison (except for, maybe, Nidai).
-
I'm glad that with this update I can already say that this game is better than the first one…..that was fast.
-
Oh, Gundam. You and your maniacal laughter sound-bit never ceases to bless my ears.
And hey, more fan project stuff! Here's a tentative idea for the english title logo that I made today with the help of the team and our Super High-School Level brainstorming powers.
-
You are doing a great job!
But a little bit of criticism if you don't mind: both the "D" and the "O" don't look right to me, I think the "D" has a weird shape and the "O" is a bit too small(or maybe its because its too close to the "R") and it looks weird because of that. But I very much like the bullet and gun sight thing you got there so keep that!Of course that is only one person's oppinion.
-
Yeah, the most troublesome spots are still the D and the O, respectively. I'm gonna let it sit for the night and try to make it look better by doing some more brainstorming later. Thanks, man!
(Trust me, you don't want to see what the first draft looked like.)
-
I'd localize the title to something like Bullet Points
-
Hey guys I'm joining this thread to follow along with the new LP. I'm sure it will be a fun time and I totally agree that we should avoid any spoilers from things ahead of the LP. I have some questions:
-
Do we know Naegi's measurements from the first game? Can we compare to the measurements for Nagito who seems the same? I assume someone has already done this.
-
From the first game: did we ever learn if the world was really in super despair or not? From what I could tell it seemed open ended.
Finally some thought and predictions from me:
-Gundum is hilarious and totally has 8th grader syndrome
-I really like the buff guy with the chains. I was rooting for the manly characters in the last game (SHSL baseball player, delinquent and martial artist) and was bummed to see them all bite the dust, so he's my new choice. Onward to muscular victory!
-Togami will last a while. He has to reveal his past with the game and that probably won't come out immediately. I hope he tells us what happened to Gynocider too :)
-I'll save my prediction of who will die first until we meet all the characters -
-

Right in the first page of the first game LP there is post with all the characters measurements, these are the ones from Naegi:
Name: Makoto Naegi (苗木誠)
Height: 160cm
Weight: 52kg
Chest: 75cm
Specialty: Super High-school Level Good Luck (Bad Luck?)The blood type I don't think its ever revealed for the DR1 characters and the birthdays I don't remember but I think its diferent from Nagito.

Nope, only that it involved SHSL Despair and maybe that bloody classroom, the SDR2 LP has also a ongoing translation for the prequel novel Dangan Ronpa Zero, in case you don't know, and from the translation so far it appears that it will answer what that event even was.
-
Alright well Nagito is significantly larger (taller, broader and heavier) than Naegi then. It seems likely that Naegi could have grown up into Nagito especially considering their names are anagrams…
Well if that's true then he and Togami will totally recognize each other. Unless there's brain-swap/amnesia/virtual-reality/clone/robot antics.
-
Oh my gosh
Miss Monomi's theme is the most amazing thing
(Skipped past the new posts because I only just started on DR2)
-
Hello there guy who totally isn't involved in all the first game memory stuff.
-
I may be misremembering, but wasn't he also responsible for the air purifying machine?
edit: Nope, definitely not. Forget I said anything.
edit2: To avoid having a low-content post, here's a little sneak peek of a side project I want to finish, hopefully by the end of the year. It'll be awesome.

Update: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?action=showpost&postid=410693451&forumid=191
Also, thanks for sending me the Monobear model starshock. I'm going to see if I can rig up a simple game or something in Blender.
-
Looks like we now have a character who will really help when there is a murder since she should be able to tell us things the Monobear files won't. I kinda hope now the game makes all the characters useful in some way in the investigation and trials, instead of like the first game where it was the Naegi/Kirigiri/Togami show all the time.
-
Yeah the characters definitely seem to have pretty useful abilities this time around. Animal tamer, nurse and mechanic all seem quite handy. Last time we had…what, only four characters who actually used their abilities? The hacker, the baseball player, the martial artist and the detective. No one else actually needed to be super high school level at any point! Hopefully that will be different here.
Those night vision googles are obviously going to be important, especially since the game is telling us it is currently "daytime."
Also I don't trust the nurse. She's going to kill someone. Maybe.

Some characters are just bound to be better at detective work than others. I mean, it would be silly if the cheerful musician or the evil hamster overlord turned out to be amazing at solving murder crimes.

I also think it can be kinda up to the directive and strength of the writer to allow the characters organic situations in which their talent can be useful, in some way. Like if they want to, they can find ways to make it work that people outside Togami or Kirigiri can figure stuff out.
The extent of which can obviously be taxing or unnecessary, or at worst feel contrived (in example, if you didn't do it right, if the cheerful musician recognized a piece of music that vitally played into the case that only she could identify, it might feel too contrived or easily spotted from the distance).
I think Dangan Ronpa did a pretty okay job I guess, but being the character-centric narrative that it is, I kinda understand the cases not quite ever being necessarily worked on enough to give the characters meaningful roles across the board, beyond murder and murder-ee. It would've been cool in DR1 for sure if guys like Hagakure could've ever contributed anything
-
I think in a game that thrives on subverting common tropes, having people like Asahina and Hagakure, who are just as they appear, is useful, if only to remain grounded. And there was the whole business with him being framed, his crystal ball, pointing out the ID cards that could be lent, getting some good insults in towards the end of the game, even temporarily taking over for Ishimaru…stuff like that. Looking back, Hagakure did a lot, just never during a trial.
-
Don't forget that in one of the endings his prediction came true xD that moment cracked me up…
-
Hagakure wrote something in his notes before everything went down though didn't he?
I thought that was his whole being psychic spiel coming into play?
Edit: And you guys suspect the nurse? Shame on you. :(
-
I also like how Hagakure must be like 23 at the end of the game.

Yeah you're right actually, all of you are!
I guess Hagakure did do quite a lot throughout the game, he was just such a passive figure it's easy to forget haha

Dangan Ronpa ZERO update
Lol at the talk about macauly culkin. -
I had some weird Assasination Classroom vibes coming from the whole "normal students only fuction in that school is to support the SHSL students who get all the attention".
Also I bet Hinata is part of those normal students.
-
And the most manly of man appears…
And if you thought a SHSL Gang Leader was weird….....well.......
-
Let's go Nekomaru! Don't follow your fellow manly characters to the grave!
Also it's going to be weird having Togami AND the gangster since he was basically a gangster in the last game. Maybe Togami will hide his identity? That doesn't really sound like him though.
-
…..and Togami's changes of being the first person killed rise even more.
-
I like how adorable this story is starting off.
-
That damn asura's wrath comment, now I can't stop anticipating nidai going into burst.
-
The speed of these updates is pleasing. For those of you who followed the original game thread, were the updates daily like these?
-
Almost. At first it was about twice a week, but as he kept going and got a better feel for recording, translating, and what not, they got faster. Really, the only period where we didn't get updates was when he was on a trip somewhere.
-
Just finished reading the LP for the 1st DR. No wonder people in Japanese sites keep calling this Kamige.
I really want to play it. Hopefully a miracle happens and they'll release HD collection called Dangan Ronpa: Zetsubou Collection or something for PS3/PSV and they'll bring it stateside.
-
Gamer and Swordswoman, huh. I like those professions too. Keep the good ones coming!
