This is possibly one of the funniest animes I've seen! It's so hard not to laugh at some parts, but the comedy is kind of strange. Sometimes, it's hard to understand, but that doesn't mean it's bad!
Azumanga Daioh!
-
-
I love Azumanga Daioh, but I could see how some wouldn't. The humor just doesn't appeal to some. Yotsubato is funny as hell too!
-
OHMIGOSH!!! Mr. Kimura is teh hottness!!! j/k j/k
If I were to be a character on that show it would be Kaorin. I haven't actully seen it but I REALLY want to. -
I'm sure you can tell by my name if I like Azumanga Daioh or not.
-
I luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuve Osaka.
Shes the best XD -
I too love Azumanga Daioh. XD
Chiyo-chan is kawaii, Sakaki is teh hotness, and Mr. Kimura is hillarious and peverted.
I watched it in Animenetwork On Demand and I'm getting the complete collection as my X-mas gift.
-
I have the cutest Chiyo-chan pillow my friend purchased for me at a convention. It's of her head, and it has detachable pigtails. :D
-
@Aurie:
OHMIGOSH!!! Mr. Kimura is teh hottness
Thankyou for the nightmares. ._.'
Azumanga daioh and Cromartie have to be my favorite comedy manga (Cromartie's anime rocks too, but I must say the Azumanga daioh manga was much funnier). Yotsubato, from what I've read, is alright. Then again, I haven't finished volume one, so…

I've only seen half of the episodes and so far I think its great.=)
-
I REALLY never saw what was good about it. I was lent the 1st DVD and god. It BORED me so much, it was so TAME and the girls were utterly annoying beyond any reasonable belife.
My friend kept trying to bribe me into cosplaying one of the girls cus I looked so much like her x.x

you really gotta watch it all the way through, and you cant not love the theme song! RASBERY HEVAN!
-
I recently got into it, and it rules. I've only read volume 1 of the strips, though.
Does Osaka have her accent in the anime?
-

Hated that too XD and if I couldn't stand like 5 eps how the hell can I watch it all? X3
-
I got the first book of this, it tried too hard to be funny, when it wasn't really funny at all
-

That's what I thought about One Piece. ^^; I didn't like the beginning at all, but I skipped to Alabasta and fell in love with the series.

I'd actually blame the Japanese-to-English translation. A lot of the jokes are amusing in Japanese, but I don't think that you can translate it literally and give it the same impact.
-
I just bought the Azumanga Daioh Complete Collection today!
This is truely an awsome Christmas gift.
-
school girl animes just do nothing for me x.x
-
Hated that too XD and if I couldn't stand like 5 eps how the hell can I watch it all? X3
Then try the manga, seriously its a great series just takes some twisted seanse of humor
-
azumangwhat?
checks his sig
-
I love Azumanga Daioh ,but I think Tomo needs a class for special people.
-
I didn't see any thread for this, so i decided to start it up, i just finished the series, it was a good series, it definitely made me laugh out loud a couple times, and Kimura was just awesome, he's the guy that made me laugh the most, well, you people discuss now
-
thread already exists. adios.
-
I didn't really like Azumanga at first, but I grew to like it even before legions of horrible imitators.
I prefer Yotsuba, though. Yotsuba is cute without that ridiculous "moe moe~ ^^;;" sexual objectification of almost all anime these days. It really stands out from the crowd, which says something about Azuma's conviction toward his characters.
-
I really don't see any objectification in Azumanga. As I saw it, it was mostly the day-to-day weirdness of a bunch of HS girls. (now Lucky Star…that's more "obsessive with sexualizing moe") My only real complaint as of late is that I think some people seem to only remember or obsess with Osaka as if she was the only good character in the whole series. I like Osaka...I just like some of the other girls just as much or more.
-
Azumanga was really good, but Yotsuba is far better. I can't wait for the next volume to come out!
-

Oh, if that was directed at me, I didn't mean to imply there was objectification in Azumanga, just in most anime/manga that have recycled the same concept.
It's like…someone makes a great fish sandwich, and the other sandwich shoppes imitate it, but they all put tartar sauce on it while the first didn't.

Ah…yeah, Malintex, I thought you meant that the sex stuff was in Azumanga. My bad.
-
I love this series! My favorite character is Sakaki!

I don't know how much discussion you can get reviving an old thread of an already completed series, but you've done the smart thing here by not making a new thread for it. So here's a reward!
If you happen to live in California or are planning to attend Anime Expo this year, the voice actress that played Sakaki is going to be a guest of honor. So come down and meet her!
Oh, and the One Piece Podcast people are heading there as well.
-
Well..i just finished this series a month ago. So far the only moe anime I like. Although I'm currently reading Yotsuba and might have to add that to my list as well.
-
I cannot read Yostuba&! without hearing Chiyo's voice as Yotsuba.
-
It was really gold, but Yostuba& is god damn even better. Gotta like style.
-
This show is awsome!
-
how bout a link to description or mention description or something here
have something more for an opening post than just that

or spell the title correctly
-
ahhh Azumanga Daioh, the first anime I ever watched.
So cute you can't help but smile from ear to ear -
I love this series, but there really isn't anything new going on with it. The manga was redrawn with some new comics…I oughta check it they're in the states now.
Anyone noticed how it never rained in the anime? In all of the series they always have perfect weather.
-
This show is awsome! But not as awsome as K-ON! and whats yostuba?
-

Does it have a anime version and is the show good?
-
Haven't read the manga…I don't know if it has an anime.
-
No, there isn't a Yotsuba anime. Azuma is against the idea so we're probably never going to see one.
-
I love the manga version of Azumanga Daioh, it's so hilarious~ The humor just hits the spot with me, but I know some people don't care for it that much at all. That being said, I really don't care for the anime version that much. The manga version to me was all about humor and awesome characters, but the anime also added 'cute' into the mix and it became pretty… moe. :/ I just feel that most of the jokes work better in four-panel form. You add filler between the panels, and the show looses its edge.
Yotsubato is awesome as well, but to me, that series is more about cuteness and enjoyment of the everyday world than just humor. If done right, an anime version would be great, but I'm perfectly fine with just manga.

Im sure we will. after all the money talks.
