Ugh, my broken english and faulty translations. When I meant write, I did not mean the language, but the carvings and how to work with the stone. I am separating the knowledge of language,(grammar, syntax) like the ones we see with Nico Robin and Ohara scholars and the knowledge of carving the poneglyphs, as we see with the stonemasons of the Kozuki clan. This separation is easy, because the ones whom knew the language and wrote the messages could've shown a piece of paper with the message to the Kozuki ancestors so they would carve it out on an indestructible stone. Not some weird stuff of only knowing how to write the language but not read it.
Here is the page Ray-san said no one in their crew knew about the language. i think it would be silly if he said that but ACTUALLY, we had someone whom could. Oden became intereste in the stone his ancestors had helped carved and their meaning, and as he went with Roger he discovered it. It is possible that after Roger wrote the message they might have tried translating. But that is more up to speculation, it seems that Roger touched and learned about stuff with the Voice of all things.
Thanks for the link. You could be right about learning to read and write being separate. I definitely agree that just because you can read/hear a language doesn't mean you can write/speak it. But I think if you can write it write/speak it, it automatically means you can read/understand the language. I can't really say what Oden's role would have been then. You've got me stumped.
Again. This scenario to leave his mostly safe home in order to follow pirates that are constantly put themaelves in danger would be a major failing of any adult in Momo's life. Momo is not a fighter. You even know he's weak af. The crew just spent two years upping their skills so they wouldn't be placed in the same position of being overwhelmed individually and as a crew. The Strawhats are not saints. I don't know why you think their ship is the place to learn humility when none of them demonstrate it themselves. You keep stretching and warping these weird scenarios. Most likely if Nami gets tired of his pervy behavior she'll use him just like the other guys. Or use his pervy tendencies against him. The Strawhats aren't terrible people but they aren't baby sitters or teachers either.
Also this Cabin boy role fitting Momo is also warping what we know of Momo into a really crappy unnecessary position on the crew. The Strawhats are small enough that they don't need someone to specifically clean up after them or do menial chores. This is not the time or place ro have a Daniel-san character. What he needs to do is learn from his own people and how to be better Shogun. I don't get how you think washing underwear and scrubbimg the deck will give him valuable skills. Karate kid was doing bodily motions and learning how to fight. He wasn't learning laws and how to rule over a large society. He just wanted to kick another kid in the face because he had anger issues.
I disagree, I think after 2 years of training, the crew might be strong enough to not only fend for themselves, but also protect Momo. Not gonna lie, I wouldn't want every arc from now on to have a "we must protect Momo" section though. And I think it would be perfect for someone of his status to fill such a lowly position. I think he will learn humility from it because clearly Luffy doesn't give a crap about his status. It would pull out some of his stuck up (see what I did there?). You're right about them not necessarily NEEDING a cabin boy the way they needed a shipwright though.
Also, I don't think Nami and Robin realize that he is a perv.
Interpretation implies evidence in the story. When you base part of your argument around "anything is possible" you're not interpreting.
When I read them say its too bad he wasn't able to learn how to read and(or) write the poneglyphs, which is a skill that has been passed down for generations, My interpretation bone says, "oh so he needs to learn the read and(or) write the poneglyphs."
When I see him interacting with the crew and its making me laugh, even if they themselves are not laughing, I interpret that as good crew chemistry from the reader's perspective, a trait that is needed in a new crew member candidate.
Why does this require becoming main cast in the first place.
What makes you think Robin couldn't get him going before leaving Wano.
I figured they would have a lot on their hands…what with fighting Kaidou and all. Also, I think teaching someone to read and(or) write a language would take more time than they plan on spending on Zou or Wano. Maybe it doesn't, but I would be disappointed in the cryptic ancient language if it could be learned so quickly.
-putting aside the entire lesson Luffy took from Shanks in the very first chapter
-putting aside that Usopp is the standard bearer as the everyman that's the weakest in the group
-putting aside the entire point of the strawhat separation and the follow up timeskip training arc
-putting aside that the entirety of the new world is probably only going to take like 3 months in-inverse….
-putting aside that we had a chapter where Momo explicitly sad "I am too young and weak to do anything, I have to leave everything to you"...
If Oda was going to introduce a young kid character that whined a lot and was completely incapable of fighting for himself, that was going to grow and develop into someone competent as a master fighter and leader of people... he would have done it much sooner. At the very least such a character would be introduced before the timeskip so there could be a two year growth and development, in both personality and battle ability, but preferably even before that so they could grow in the first half of the story as well so that real time would pass for the readers as well as the character aged.
If Oda wanted a character like that, he would have made him by now. But he hasn't, so it's silly to expect one at this point.
Lol touché. Like i told Cyclone_Baroness, I think after two years of training, the crew is strong enough to take care of themselves and keep Momo safe. And maybe after learning to control his devil fruit better, he wont need an escort for everything
