Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)

Doflamingo for nakama!

Don't forget Baby 5 (whom we have only seen for ONE chapter and she's already candidate material for some odd reason).
What about the little gir- oh right, no boobs.

I dunno about the little girl, but the giant one has been put up as a nakama.

She had no intention of helping Croc carry out his plan; she was focused on her own goals. Not 100% loyal.
And she offered the Straw Hats the chance to get to Alabasta early, and saved Luffy's life. Not 100% evil.
yea…whats your point? she wasn't loyal but she was willing to help kill thousands of people all for the sake of finding the history which is evil
saying shes evil isn't really that much of an argument agaist her because Robin did much worse things
don't forget her specialty is assasination.

Except RObin was actively trying to foil croc's plans. SUre she didn't do it in a direct manner, but without her Crocodile WOULD have succeeded. SHe was the one who told Vivi Crocodile's identity, she was the one who saved Luffy twice, and she even tried to give the SHs a fast route to Alabasta. Robin's motivations were ALWAYS in question. Now tell me: What has Monet done to show that she feels any sort of regret for what she's done? What has Monet done to stop them from happening from the future? Because the fact is that she seems to delight in hurting people and doing bad things.

when did she ever try to foil croc's plans to kill innocent people
*was it when croc let the people kill each other
*was it when croc stopped the rain to cause a drought
*was it when croc sent sand storms to cities
*was it when croc tried to destroy alabasta and all its citizens
she did NOTHING to stop any of these occurrences. what she did was HELP cause them because she didn't care about any of the peoples lives.the simple fact is that robin was evil and she was with croc way before she even met Luffy. So she never depended on him to SAVE anyone.
-
DOes the part about informing Vivi and saving Luffy (the only person who might be strong enough to actually defeat Crocodile) mean nothing to you? Just because she didn't outright attack Crocodile until the very end doesn't mean she wasn't trying to undermine him in subtler ways. Because it is abundantly clear that had RObin acted more outright in the beginning, nothing would have been accomplished
-
does the part about "she was working with crocodile way before she even knew luffy" mean anything to you. even if she did succeed in killing croc do you think all the people would have been saved?
no…they all would have still died in the explosion.
Robin has done more evil things than Monetand she assassinated people also.
-
The only thing Robin actively tried to stop was Crocodile getting his hand on Pluton. Everything else was merely passive, and she certainly wasn't playing an active part in helping Luffy or preventing the loss of Alabastan life. Her actions during that arc just strike me as trying to accomplish her goals, and not really caring about what happens or who she helps or hurts as long as she gets her desired outcome.
Kinda like… oh... kinda like Monet.
-
Yeah no the parallel doesn't amount to anything, Monet is clearly not material and has never been.
-
I am sorry but being indifferent about other person´s lives and enjoying the demise of other people (especially children) is something different for me, i wonder how people can see it otherwise.

Not that the kingdom of Arabasta had any children which would have been blown up as well… And not that Robin laughed her ass off about Vivi wanting to save them.
Seriously... Robin was jsut about her own goals and would give a damn about Arabasta and all the people who lives their. She did nothig to stop the bomb after all... Yeah she helped Luffy... But why hasn't he simply told him from the very start where the bomb is or some other. Cuz she gave a damn about it.
Monet of course is shown to be evil... but so far we only have 2 tings which are strange
1. Why hasn't she done something about Chopper?
2. Her comment that she has to do it or she will be killed by DoFlamingoAND KEEP IN MY MIND. I don't think she will join nor I think she has chances at all. But evil or not is just a bit wishy washy in this manga

Again, laughing at Vivi for caring about others is pretty much in line with Robin being indifferent about other people´s fate. Of course children would have died in that blast (whether she knew about it or not i do not remember but it is not that important really) but she did not enjoy that, she was just indifferent about it (http://www.mangareader.net/103-2325-4/one-piece/chapter-218.html). Being indifferent obviously does not make her good (never said that) but she was also never downright evil as Monet who actually enjoys the demise of other (that means she cares about them and is not indifferent, only taht the caring is pretty much negative).

Luffy will take almost anyone that didnt kill someone he was close too.

Let's stay classy, everyone. Monet will never join if we keep acting like boorish oafs.

I fear that our behavior has no effect on a character´s chance of joining.

I know. I was just parodying said boorish oafs.

What you asked is impossible.
-
Okay, people seem to think I'm thinking logically about this, or that I really think this will happen. Anyways.
You guys, Crocodile murdered several innocents, tried to set off a giant bomb in a populated area, and otherwise attempted to ruin a country, and Robin was just like, "lol, okay." Sure, she did help Luffy out, but that was more for her own purposes, and it was clear that she was all too willing to stand by and let Alabasta burn. Luffy didn't even ask about this. Heck, we're talking about a guy who let Crocodile go free with like no problems, and has openly said he's not interested in being a straight hero. If helping him out is all it takes to get on his good side, tell me you can't see Monet switching sides once she realizes she's fighting for a losing team.
Also, Monet biting Tashigi in the shoulder once doesn't exactly mean that she dines on the flesh of mortals by the moonlight or anything.
It's an idea worth talking about, anyways. I could see it happening still.
http://mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v55/c540/14.html Luffy does have problem letting Crocodile sail free. But he needs help if he wants he's brother back.

Not if you take Oda's wife hostage and ransom the deal out of Oda.
-
Was it mentioned in the manga or by Oda that Luffy needs 10 people?
I checked first 3 chapters, and there wasn't anything stated by Luffy that he needs 10 people.
Unless if Oda said that earlier in SBS.
The first island on New World "Punk Hazard arc" is gonna finish soon, and no one knows if there is new crew-member or not.

Right here, first chapter.Thanks…
Didn't focus on chapter 1 and I was looking at chapter 2...
so... by saying "at least"... assuming that not less than 10 people.. otherwise he would want more than 10, huh?
-
" I hope I can find at least ten people ". Yeah I'm 100% sure hes gettin at least 12. Who said Jinbei spent more time with Luffy thn Brook? Thriller - Sabody was like a week- two week time period while Impel down n marineford were like a day or two. Also, Luffy jokely asked Brook to join, which was a gag like that tree and other zombies, so yeah Luffy wants more than ten
-

My thought too.. some people think Luffy needs just 10 people, but they don't pay attention to every single word he says…
and funny... what are the chances that Luffy won't get more than 10 while he still in the beginning of New World?
-
You guys need to stop getting so mad at who they want for crewmates. Its just something they would like to happen, not like they're force preaching about coby joining or something.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I WOULD LIKE Monet to join, but she probably wont.
-
i agree. its gonna be 10 or more peeps…and it would be cool if the strawhat crew would be complete before the very first yonkou clash.
PS. i really wanted wiper to join before... :(

The official Viz translation, has the line translated as "I think about 10 men should do". Though I wouldn't be against Oda keeping up the pattern of four new members per sea.
-
Still on the 10 people? Aohige has explained it pages back though.
! @Aohige_AP:
! > Also if I may, he said 10人は欲しい, indicating he wants at least 10. (The key here is "は", in this context, is used to mean minimum of)
So he already isn't putting any limit, but he want at least 10 crews with him.Of course, from storytelling point of view, having +10 nakama seems like a good forshadowing.
Although in my personal opinion, I don't think the core crew will grow to more than 11.
The later a crew is introduced, the less development time he/she will recieve.
A crew of 11, and bunch of allies (like the pirates under Whitebeard's flag) would be nice at the end.
It was "10人は欲しい" (juunin wa hoshii). The key here is は /wa/ instead of が /ga/. It can be easily translated to "I want at least 10 people", but let me tell you what the は really implies: Luffy wanted the 10 people, but would accept more than that (thus, it can be translated to at least). My personal interpretation is that the 10 people are those with positions/roles in the ship, like first mate, navigator, canon master/sniper, doctor, etc. I personally think that Jinbe will take the role of the helmsman (not gonna explain for now). Any more people after Jinbe won't need any important position/role in the crew, that is, they can have any job/expertize that isn't really significant in a ship or the story.
-
No, when you say a number followed by a は, you mean "this number will do, but more would be nice".
Not simply "accepted", it's "preferred".For example, when you say 二十万円は必要だ it means "we at least need 200k yen".
この仕事をやり遂げるには三十人は必要だ = In order to complete this work, we need at least 30 people.Your Japanese grammer is off by a mile. You never use "ga" in that situation.
That would make no sense, it's not even an option.
"ga" is used in a sentence describing a situation, and not used in sentences of expression.Sagippio, I've noticed that you seem to have a hard time grasping the conjunction grammer of Japanese, which is probably the most common problem with people who are learning Japanese. Understandably, it's pretty confusing.
-
Well, the last time I touched my grammar book was like 5 years ago, so spare me would ya…
-
-
Well, archaeloigst and swordsman are hardly pisitions on pirate crew
@Aohige: How much problems did you have learning Japanese, especially the grammar and are you a native English speaker or do you come from another country?

Japanese is my native language. English is actually my 2nd language.
But I know English better than majority of Americans, especially in the South. -

But I know English better than majority of Americans, especially in the South. Then i can not use you as reference. The reason i am asking is because i stand before the decision to either learn Japanese or Korean, so i wanted to hear your experiences with Japanese grammar. Now, i am a native German speaker and i can easily say that German grammar is probably among the most advanced or let us say difficult grammars in the world, so i thought that Japanese would maybe come easier for me. I also learned Mandarin for 3 years but the problem with that is, i mostly learned the simple characters mainly used on the mainland and as far as i know (correct me if i am wrong) Kanji have the traditional characters and also have a different meaning?
-
I only accept cash. No cards.
I would, if I could. But you know, I have this inheritance of like 100M USD or so, if only you could send 10k USD to help me get the money out of the country I would surely give your money back and 100k more. :ninja:
Well, archaeloigst and swordsman are hardly pisitions on pirate crew
yes, I edited my post. I personally consider Zoro as the first mate, and Robin is important for the story.
-
As far as I know, both Chinese and Korean grammar are said to be easier to learn than Japanese.
I've heard people who compare Japanese as Germany of East in its complex difficulty in language structure.
It does, however, have very solid grammer with very few exceptions… unlike English, which breaks rules as much as it follows.
Writing however, Chinese ranks up there as one of the most difficult languages to learn.Korean is simple in both writing and speech, but tbh Chinese trumps both Japanese and Korean in "language most practical to learn" for obvious reasons.
As for your last question, Japanese never retro-actively simplified most of the kanji imported from China, so it's got a lot more traditional styled spellings left. It did, however, simplify some kanji WHEN it was imported in in the first place, as well as exclude a lot of characters.
For the MOST part though, meanings of kanji are still the same in both nations. My mother is a professor with PHD in linguistics, so I've picked up some from her.
-
Mandarin grammar is really easy, especially since i am used to difficulty grammar both in German and Turkish. The reason i am a bit reluctant towards learning Japanese (considering i spent 3 years already for Mandarin and probably have to spend at least that much to be considered fluent) is besides grammar the three different writing systems. Now i do not know how hard it is to learn Hiragana and Katakana while learning Kanji but i can imagine it not being easy which is already an understatement.
-
@MiyamotoMusashi: lol man, you've learned hanzi already, learning kana should be very easy for you.
-
I want Koala to show up and join the crew.
-
-
Nope .
I actually thought of this and want it to happen too. So yes. Depends on what skills she learned while growing up that is.
