Thos of us who watched it not long ago already know but it was announced in the Nintendo Direct that Legend of Zelda Windwaker is getting a Wii U makeover.
I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for this

If they speed up the sailing and add the missing dungeons this could unseat alttp as best zelda game
WW is probably my favorite Zelda together with OOT.
Still id rather have them remake one of the olders games, Like MM or LttP.
Give the King of Red Lions the fantasy version of a motor and we have the best game ever made
so excited. I hope they add some new stuff rather than it just being a port. i wonder if they'll add motion control options
I never did own the original Wind Waker (though I did beat it while renting it). So yeah, definitely gonna pick this up.
Screen shots in high resolution.
If they speed up the sailing and add the missing dungeons this could unseat Link's awakening DX as best zelda game
Oh yeah, I went there.
I don't care if this has new content or just a straight up HD remake.
My favorite game is not only going to be relevant again, but getting stunning HD graphics. I don't care if I'm biased, day one purchase for me.
Oh yeah, I went there.
It's a tough one, but I think alttp is the better game. More dungeons, the split world mechanic, no constant subscreen flipping to remap a and b, as wella as the coolest secrets in any zelda game.
though eagle tower in links awakening is the best zelda dungeon ever
I thought the sail speed was fine, but more quick travel points would be nice. Aside that, I can't think of much to improve this game, as it's up there with MM for my favorite 3D Zelda of all time.
Things that could be cool?
Encountering pirates, wondering sailors, or just characters on the seas.
And oh! More more huge sea monsters like the Krakens with multiple eyes.
Pipe dream though. I'd be happy to play the game again.
creepy weather and hurricanes were the best thing in wind waker
run run run
Seriously, it's the zelda that withstands the test of time the best.
I still love skyward sword more right know(having regarded the wind waker as the best zelda for years) but I wonder how well ss holds up over the years.
I have fond memories of loving the art style since the very first announcement and telling my friends to shut up :).
16 chars of YES …..................
One of my major gripes with Wind Waker wasn't the sailing, but the small amount of dungeons. I know a lot of them were cut because of the deadlines, but like others I'm sort of hoping that they put them in.
I hope they include all the rumoured cut content, also this is really tempting me to buy a wiiu
What a Nintendo Direct this was. I'm greatly looking forward to this game, especially since my GameCube copy of it is a bit scratched and freezes at certain points…
I am SO excited about this! It's been way too long since I last played WW (my brother took our copy to college with him), so playing it again in HD sounds like a dream come true to me! The screenshots alone look amazing!
Bring back the Cut dungeons and it'll easily be the best Zelda game ever. That's all it would take from me. Over time it's became a game that just feels like it's improved. Like a fine wine.
Who needs trophies or achievements when you can have a complete collection of statues from the Camera!
i hope they add a master quest or in this case PAJAMA quest (i'm sorry) to the game.
I'd also like extra dungeons but i'm not getting my hopes up

Since i have fear of the ocean, sailing was completely dreadful for me.
WW didn't try to ease those fears.
Game: "You enjoying this happy sail music? Crisp blue sea and sky?"
Me: "Yeah I- why's the sky getting dark? Why'd you change the music? Why's there something coming out of the water?"
I punked out the first time, not even gonna lie. But I'm also the same guy who stopped playing FF7, Mario 64, and Ape Escape for that same reason.
Granted, once I got my canon and boomerang, the ocean in WW is way less intimidating.
but still screw this theme:

I can't even lie, I'm pretty sure I'm way more biased towards Link's Awakening because it was portable and so exploitable. I also really loved the trade quest, flying chickens and the chain chomp.
Woah, definitely didn't see that one coming!
Since I never owned or completed WindWaker, I'm REALLY happy about it getting a Wii U version :D
If they manage to make windwaker playable i'll give it another try

You need to overcome that phobia dude.

Was it ever unplayable?
To me it was. I never could force myself to play through the entire game.
At my very best i got to the first dungeon after the two hands and a face boss in the tower
well, all it says is that they're going to "tune up the overall game experience", so I doubt we'd be getting any of the cut dungeons. A new dungeon would include a new tool, which would require a new equipment screen, and one would expect to have to use said tool outside the dungeon, like you do the rest of your stuff. Besides, "cut" doesn't tell you how far along they came with the development. For all we know, they never got further than the design document, and were cut in order to reach Alpha.
maybe they'll surprise my socks off and include more actual content, but I'm keeping expectations low. I'll settle for wind waker in glorious HD, wide-open ocean and everything. I enjoyed just sailing around and doing shit, the triforce hunt was one of my favorite parts of that game.
actually, they might include the Tingle Tuner using the gamepad, which would be badass.
Edit: Earlier pictures are 1080p. Not sure why I was hearing different.
I never did finish this game, though.
Yes, now I don't have to search for a copy of Wind Wacker on the GC

Oh yeah. I missed out on that gimmick completely.

I don't know how you learned to see, type english, get internet, and then join a forum but…... nice try, Angler Fish. You won't trick me.

I didn't even think of this possibility, they should remake all of those GC games that used the GBA link with that as a feature.
Final Fantasy Crystal chronicles and Four Swords were pretty fun.
I hope they add more islands, half the fun of WW was sailing around aimlessly and finding random crap
After what Miyamoto said a while back about how he can't see LoZ games being played without motion controls, I really hope that this doesn't get that treatment. I couldn't even bring myself to finish Skyward Sword.
Do we have any word on who is actually doing the remake?
No desire to play this if there's really no new content at all. WW was a great game, but just kinda meh as a Zelda.
Remake Majora's Mask with all these fancy graphical updates and I'll sign my firstborn away to Nintendo right now. I've got the contract drawn up.
Kinda funny since WW was the Zelda game least in need of an HD revamp, but I'm not complaining. Never completed it, so now's a great chance. Really looking forward to this.
This is cool, but where da fuck is Majora's Mask remake?? Even just a DS port like with Ocarina would be fine.
Majora's was a flawed brilliant game, and a slight overhaul particularly in making some of the less attractive areas (Great Bay cough cough) look the way they were meant to would really bring that game up to full height it always threatened to have. Man oh mannn.
Want want want.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Wind Waker continues to have the "Perfectly great Zelda game that 50% of people have dumb hangups over" badge I see lol
I love the idea of using the gamepad for a map, because one of my annoyances with wind waker was that as I suck with directions,so I had to constantly recheck the map chart while sailing anywhere. ANd hopefully they'll speed up sailing a bit as well
Bunch of speedy gonzaleses can;;t enjoy the ride for the first portions before you get teh warp song, tsk tsk.
This is absolutely wonderful news to me! oh man, WW is one of my all-time favorite Zelda games. I've lost track of all of the times I've played through it. it's funny, because I remember not being immediately sold on the distinct cell shaded "look" of WW at first…...until I actually started the game. And the gameplay was so damn strong, the characters memorable, the soundtrack distinct and charming – and then I realized how perfectly the visuals merged with the overall experience. I loved every minute of this game. So many good memories.
yeah, I would buy the Wii U just to play this game. Mad hype!

Thats how i feel about it. Look i love zelda games (love them! i have a hylian tattoo), but i kinda feel like this attention would have been better spent on a new handheld title or at least a past title that could benefit much more from this facelift. I figured a brand new handheld zelda was our next game, but i guess thats not in the cards right now. Most of all though is that Im just plain sick of the wind waker design in so many releases after this long, i want something different with a new atmosphere and continuing this just makes it stagnant IMO. Although this version of wind waker looks great, its just not something im going to be that excited about right now.

They are working on a new handheld zelda. Why do you assume they can't be working on both

How do we know that though? I feel like they mentioned it once and we havent heard of it since after skyward sword or around them. If they have the team involved with this hd version, an new handheld one, and the new wiiu one they either have themselves spread out very thin, or they have completely a new team doing this HD version. What im saying though is that with this to hold us off that seems like its going to be that much longer between releases.

My Guess is Grezzo is doing this one just like they did OoT 3D with the main team split between console and handheld

I hope so if thats the case
Well this is quite random, but great news nonetheless! I was hoping it was going to get a portable treatment, since a portable Wind Waker would make me a happy man 'til death.
Also, Link's undershirt is brown, but it was light green in the original WW. Not that big of a deal, but I preferred the light green.
I for one am very happy about this. While I was extremely sick and tired of playing Ocarina remake after remake after remake ("sick and tired" as in "fun, but I need something else"), Wind Waker is the one I haven't been able to replay in a very long time and one of which I have extremely fond memories.
I also really understand their idea of using this to introduce a new generation to Zelda. Even if we would prefer grittier, more unique Zelda's like Majora's Mask, you won't be able to use a creepy game like that to convert all of the new Nintendoland generation of Nintendo fans into dedicated Nintendo buyers. In that sense, Wind Waker is probably the most approachable and laid back Zelda.
Also, given Iwata's hint at a future 3DS video, I'm pretty sure we can still expect a handheld Zelda. My bet is on Majora's Mask 3D since it can recycle the visuals from the OoT remake. I also really look forward to seeing that moon coming towards me in 3D.

This is the worst idea I've ever heard.
Not that it's a bad concept, per se, but I'd like to sleep sometime, thanks.
Considering the way Iwata said 'Fans will be able to play two new Zelda games' then paused before quickly adding 'on the Wii U' makes me optimistic that there's a handheld Zelda on the cards.

Dude.
That was pretty much the best part of the game for me.
It actually felt like I was an explorer on the open seas with a map and a convenient compass.
It was simple. Look at map. Go ,"Hmm, the my destination is northwest from here". Then sail northwest. It never fails.
Also, wind was also another neat visual indication on direction.
It was so fun. The most fun was stopping to boat just to explore something that caught my eye. Like a random island. Seeing seagulls in the distance. Submarines.
I don't know if it's just me, but having a map HUD on the screen ALWAYS takes away from a game for me. Because then the game's design forces you to look at your map moreso the the visuals. Rockstar and Assassin's Creed games in general have this problem. While that do make sense for GTA titles, I can help but feel games like RDR and Bully could have been designed to work without them. Especially considering that the locations those game looked really distinctive.
