Yeah, they are normally grindcore, which is what make this EP cool. The first piece, Mass & Volume, is a 20 minute drone track a la Sunn O))) which is pretty cool and meditative. Red Tar is a 6 minute sludge/drone piece which is heavy, pissed and awesome. I enjoyed it quite a bit. If you buy it, worst case scenario is that you gave $10 to a good cause.

@Mrs.:
A new Daft Punk album is announced for this spring! http://www.daftpunk.com/
This, and Atoms for Peace of course, give me something to look forward to. Oh.. can't forget about Kid Cudi.
-
While I'm still obsessing over Kongh-related stuff, one of the members is releasing an electro/prog album on the 11th which so tickles the nerd inside me:

I'm on my 5th replay of this track! Makes me feel like I'm saving the cyber universe!!!!!!!!!!
-
I just bought that album the other day via bandcamp. It's quite enjoyable. Nothing that stands out too much in my collection, but boy does it tickle the Tangerine Dream nerd inside me.
New DEP song has been released. I am glad not to hear their pop side leaking too much into this. It will probably be around the album, and I thought it actually fit in well with Option Paralysis, but give me more along these lines and I'll be a happy camper:
-
Listening to the new David Bowie! It's really boring!
I didn't expect any different.
Wagomu, what era Tangerine Dream we talking about?
-
I really enjoy this

The sort of electronic textures they have going remind me of the more atmospheric bits of albums like Force Majeure.

Yeah, can totally see that. I wasn't as big a fan of their Force Majeure/Tangram days, but they still released a ton of quality stuff in the late seventies through the mid-eighties (Exit, and a really odd but good soundtrack for a movie called Wavelength).
My favorite has to be Phaedra, though. I once drove through a massive thunderstorm at night while cranking the title track and it was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. I couldn't turn it off, though, since it just fit so well:
-
Yeah, Phaedra is probably their best work. It masterfully builds a beautiful, sparse and creepy landscape. That must have been an intense drive, haha. Force Majeure still holds a place in my heart, though, since it was the first album of theirs I heard and I dig the cheese of their proggier days.
-
The new Inter Arma kicks a whole lot of ass. If Decibel's been hyping a band, though, chances are that they're going to be great.
-
So, it seems Kvelertak's "Meir" is collecting decent to good reviews, but far from their debut album. I listened to it just once, and it does not seem as memorable and brilliant as the first, but I guess I'll have to listen to it a bit more.
Anyone listened to it? What are your thoughts on it?
-
was feeling a little bad mood today. it suddenly changed when i saw Alkaline Trio's new album has been released. my life is complete
-
New Tyler and James Blake. Both have got some pretty slick tracks.
-
New Tyler "Wolf" and also new Daft Punk "Random Access Memories" coming out soon. Good shit
-
New Queens track. Homme is a legend.

seriously? I hope they go on tour in germany :)

The new Kvelertak had some decent tracks on it, but it just seems a bit more tame than their first. The edge has dulled, but they still strike. Hopefully they'll bloat themselves with alcohol and rage before going into the studio again, because I want to bathe in Norwegian fury once again.
Both the new Ghost and the new Kvelertak are an equal step down from their previous efforts in my mind, which is a shame since they both released impressive debuts. They still show promise, but a step down in sophomore efforts is not unheard of, so I still hold out hope.
New Moss and Iron Reagan albums were pretty cool, though I don't think they'll compete for my toplist this year. Moss is sort of droney doom and Iron Reagan is basically Municipal Waste (it's another Tony Foresta project).

New Spock's Beard is pretty tight. I implore my fellow prog nerds to check it!

I still haven't gotten around to listening through the new Anciients album, but the few things I've heard from it are promising. I'm hoping to see them on tour with Skeletonwitch in a month or so.

I don't know if you've already listened to it but Terra Tenebrosa's new album it out. I'm downloading it now, can't wait to listen to it.
-
Yeah, that one leaked more than a month ago. I've only listened through it a couple times, so my opinions aren't fully formed, but first impressions are really good.
-
Album was really good. I think I enjoyed it more than their previous one, though I'll have to go back and listen.. Disintegration is my favorite song from it so far.

http://pitchfork.com/news/47783-neutral-milk-hotel-reunite-for-tour/
Neutral Milk Hotel is getting back together for a tour. Wonder if we'll get a new album out of this.
-
fuck NMH; that DJ Sprinkles comp from earlier this year is so good
-
A new song I heard today on the radio. It's just psychedelic as hell, in a 60's vibe kind of way. Not very 2013 I guess
-
Could have sworn when you were talking psychedelic that's picked up in popularity you were talking about Kurt Vile. He also released an album this year, though I haven't listened to it fully yet. What I've heard sounds pretty good, though, and it's been getting a positive reception, so I might have to check it out, If you dig stuff like what you posted you would probably enjoy the dude.
One of my new favorites this year is definitely the new Tribulation album. It's a very cool death metal album that isn't just a meathead mating call (as much as I love my share of those). Their first album was an awesome effort in more straight up death metal, but this one has a lot of atmospheric sensibilities, which I find really cool. It's too bad I can't find any proof that this album exists for you. It was released back at the beginning of march, only in Europe, though. No one is awesome enough to put a song of it on youtube, so you only have my word to go by. If you can track it down, though, you won't be disappointed.
-
Lovin that tune wagomu. I'm going to have to check out more of their material. It's pretty laid back.
And yeah if I go back to Europe any time soon I'll try and find that album.

I really wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was, but the new Dillinger Escape Plan album is among their best. I don't say that lightly, since Calculating Infinity and Miss Machine were certainly giants looming over Greg Puciato's incarnation of the band, but One of Us is the Killer is an amazing addition and more than justifies the band's path through their more recent albums (did not like Ire Works, enjoyed Option Paralysis, but a lot was forgettable).
Edit: That Tribulation album is up on Spotify now if you have that. Also found one track streaming here. Apparently it saw a US release, but I can't find a place to throw money at it that isn't in Euros. I'm gonna have to investigate…

Late, but yeah, that seems to be the case with Kvelertak. Let's see if third's the charm.
Unfortunately, that also seems to be the case with many other great bands this 2013.
Persephone's Spiritual Migration is a step down from Shin Ken (which, at the same time, could be seen as a step down from Core, but I'm still not so sure of that. Different, I'll concede).
Omnium Gatherum's Beyond is pretty decent, but far from New World Shadows (although that was near impossible).
And, regretably, I'm not sold with Leprous' Coal. Billateral is one of those super weird albums where I can listen to it start to finish, and one of the even weirder ones where I can listen to the balads, and enjoy them even more than the "fast" tracks.
Coal is a really slow, depressive, dense album. Everyone is talking wonders about it, like it's a super slow burner, and I just "tasted" it, but man. . .what a slog. Maybe is the moment I'm in right now, where I want my music catchier, to catch my attention, to hook me in. Coal is the complete, utter and supreme opposite of that. It's the anti-catchy. It's high quality music, these guys are the lords of atmosphere, of subtle instrumentation, and maybe in some months or years I will enjoy it like it deserves, but right now. . .not so sure.
I'll keep giving it some more chances cause, hell, it's Leprous, but man was the first approach an unsuccessful one for me.
All of this makes me fear for Orphaned Land's "All is one", due for this june. The 2 tracks leaked from the album sure sound great, so I still hope for this awesome guys.
-
why don't we move this topic into the Future
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
does anyone know what happened to Spencer Clark
will the skaters have a reunion tour someday
-
Don't know if it'll come out this year or not but a tweet from Slough Feg's Twitter linked to a podcast with apparently a "demo version of a track from the upcoming Metal Blade album…!". I haven't listened to it yet but here's the link they gave
http://podcasts.radiovalencia.fm/time_machine/RadioValencia.2013-06-02.1300.mp3
Pretty excited. Been waiting a while for a new album from them.
Edit: Was kind of confused when listening to this, it's from a radio station I guess, so there's a bunch of songs first. Interview starts at about 15 minutes in.
Edit 2: Demo of new song, Laser Enforcer, starts at around 38 minutes in.
-
Waiting for some new material by Shakira and Eminem
-
pretty highly up here as one of my favorite songs of 2013, let alone album.
-
A little math/metal/instrumental. Anyway these guys are loads of fun and have a lot of promise. Dialed a little back on their energy more than I would have liked though.
-
Kanye West's Yeezus is pretty fuckin' legit. The pace of the songs changes quite a bit through the album, super strong start then it slows down. Jon Hopkin's Immunity was… um... nice! too. Just not a huge fan of that type of music as I can't remember much of it after having listened to it. Nice background music though, non-intrusive.

And it's out. And the review from my "reference" metal site couldn't be more disheartening. . .

I've had some months to reflect, but the new Spock's Beard album is pretty killer. I'm somewhat torn on whether or not it will get a top 10 spot, because it's pretty much just more Spock's Beard, plus the album's long and some songs have rough transitions, but the riffs that stick stick hard. More than once this year I've found myself trying to pin down where the riff that popped into my head came from and found it's footprint in Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep.
-
Just got Modern Vampires of the City. It's gonna take me a few listens to fully digest, but after the first listen it sounds pretty cool.
-
The new Exhumed album, Necrocracy is up for free stream.
I just put it on and dear god my face is already in shreds. I hope they tour for this. Exhumed live is an awesome experience that I wish every human being could enjoy.

T](http://www.progressivenationatsea.com/)his might very well be among the best things ever.
Too bad I'm fucking broke, and this is really expensive; $700 + taxes and fees + in my particular case, a freaking flight from Spain to the States.
But the line up is orgasmic, and the setting sounds really appealing (if only a bit snobbish and elitist).
-
God damn, what I would give to see Spock's Beard and the Flower Kings side by side. You know, besides $700+.
-
With Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree, that'd be just flawless.
But Beardfish and Pain of Salvation more than make up for the lack of Steven. . .
If I just so happen to get rich from now till February, I'm going there.
-
Yeah, that would be awesome. Fortunately, I got to see Steven Wilson live earlier this year on an intersection with Opeth's tour. The dude is hilarious live.
Yeah, Beardfish, Pain of Salvation and Bigelf are definitely incentives, but I'm saving my money up for Maryland Deathfest (which I've been meaning to get to for years and already forever regret missing the one two years ago when Electric Wizard played).
-
Been so in need of more good fem. vocal anthemic pop and damn do they deliver.
I just can't stop listening to this. The chorus is so satisfying
-

Do you know any other kinds of bands which does this kind of music, or anything else similar? The rhythm is really good
-
Listened to Deafheaven's Sunbather and Atoms for Peace's Amok today.
Good stuff on both accounts. Funny story; I had no idea Atoms for Peace was a supergroup before I listened to it. "Hey, wait a minute. That sounds a lot like Thom Yorke," I thought.
-
Foxygen is some damn fine listening.
And the rest of the album is good too.
-
Why can't I have this yet
-
New Death Grips blowin' the system with some controversy.
After 30+ listens I can safely say I like the song. Except some of the lyrics lol, but I know they're based on a poem so yay for that. I'm not a lyrics person anyway.
-
Death Grips has really been in this terrible downward spiral for the last year. I enjoyed Exmilitary and the Money Store, but No Love Deep Web was really sloppy. Not to mention the band is composed of a roving troupe of imbeciles (I watched this one interview where the singer said literally one of the most pretentious things I've ever heard: "I'm not influenced by things humans have done;" yeah, I'm sure, buddy! Please enlighten us with your juvenile angst-ridden lyrics! Dumbass).
But in terms of good tunes, everyone should give the new Oneohtrix Point Never and HEDOROMERUHEN records a spin.
The latter is really one of the best things you are going to encounter this whole year -

The latter is really one of the best things you are going to encounter this whole yearWell I definitely like Birds (and there's quite a few who don't), but I have to agree with you on the way they present themselves. They've been doing really dumb shit at venues, like I've heard they've been straight-up abandoning them. Even I as a fan of them had to turn off the interview you're talking about.
