Not blocking reviews. But anyone that was even slightly negative or neutral after the 6 hour preview a few months ago didn't get a code, so they couldn't have a review out on launch... as a result most of the day 1 reviews are curated to be positive and from folks that were already excited for the game.
EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread

Such a shitty thing to do to players and to Bioware itself.
I would think in light of the reception to BioWare’s last few games this would be to their benefit and not their detriment….illogical as it is.

The trick is of course that it frontloads the early reviews as positives and gets people to stay on pre-order. But then those numbers might drop or have people dissapointed once some actual reviews start coming in.
I really hope it's good despite everything. I will play it eventually. But I don't think it's at all a day one pick up for me now. Even after the 10 year wait.
And that makes me really sad.
-
I never planned to pre-order it either (after 5 years). I will wait for more post-release reviews. But I reaaaaalllly want it to be good. Or at least good enough to play.
Oh well. At least even if I buy a PS5 to play it, I'll still have Baldur's Gate and Final Fantasy re-releases.

Looks like a lot of people are hating on the game for allowing you to play as non straight characters
I don’t really understand the problem since it seems like you can choose what your character is into/what they identify as, so if that’s not for you just don’t choose that path right?
Am I missing something

I have no idea. They have given us LGBTQ options from day one.
-
Not only that but it’s an option, if you don’t like that just don’t choose it right?
It’s like going to get a milkshake and they have two options for you Vanilla and chocolate and you choose Vanilla even though you want Chocolate then you complain that they gave you vanilla and not chocolate when that’s what you ordered in the first place
If you didn’t want that then don’t choose it

The problem with some of asswipes is the fact that this stuff is in the game period. They want game developers to pander to them by pretending that either LGBTQI+ people don’t exist or want them to exist as offensive stereotypes.
This while complaining about how having progressive LGBTQI+ themes in games is “pandering”.

Well you see if it's two women being lesbians it's hot, but if a dude ever hits on you while you're playing a dude that's the worst thing ever, because who ever wants to be hit on by a guy that can't take no for an answer?
-
@Satsuki I really doubt people complaining about it are fans of the series. Probably didn't even played the previous games.
They are just gamers who found out this was the next "woke" thing and decided to drag it.Unfortunately, as players are getting more hours into the game and getting to experience it for themselves, it seems the overall perception of it is leaning more towards a negative one.
So, unlike BG3 who was able to shut down the bigots and haters, Veilguard will probably not be praised on the long run (and the random haters will just act like it was because of LGBTQ+ stuff, instead of everything else). -
Can't trust Metacritic user reviews bc half of them seems like the prejudice assholes, but yeah the difference between a lot of the user reviews and professional reviews is insane. Were the big reviewers (IGN and so on) paid to review this game well?
But then I am seeing positive user reviews too, so I feel like I do want to play the game myself to make my own opinion.

Review scores on Steam, where you actually have to buy it, (but is a thumbs up thumbs down system) are in the high 70s. PlayStation is 4.4/5, and Xbox is 4/5.
On metacritic, where you don't have to buy it, it's in the 30s because it's being review bombed with 0s from the anti-woke brigade.
So I'd trust the steam reviews more but they really need a neutral rating for when a game has problems but isn't outright bad because of them.
So game is decent enough and people are enjoying it, but there's enough problems to keep it below 80. The critics are scoring it around the same as origins and inquisition.

Thanks.
Angry Joe has a Twitch stream I think I'll watch part of. Joe and I usually have the same opinions.

The general consensus I'm seeing from ACTUAL reviews is
8/10 - as a generic action RPG
5/10 - as a Dragon Age sequelAnd I'm seeing that sentiment a lot. No one with a review with any level of depth is going "10/10, perfect game"
Complaints about the combat falling off after 10 hours, the puzzles being completely brain dead, and very safe writing with all the characters being samey with no conflict are consistent, even in the positive reviews. Also worth noting that most reviews are being dropped 4-8 hours in, no one has gotten to the end-game yet, so if the complaint of "after 10 hours you should just turn the difficulty down to speed the combat up" holds true for the general public.
Yeah, officially going to wait for a sale. I've still got Baldur's Gate on backlog.

Combat seems to be #1 issue all reviewers have. Which thankfully for me doesn't mean as much, but damn that's a bad ball to drop.
