A modern mummy film…? Can't say I'm feeling it, sounds SyFy original movie material.
Yeah there was A LOT of charm behind the Mummy (with Fraser) was because it was a period piece since it really instigated a sense of classic adventure and intrigue (as well as sorta function as a tribute to the original). Of course the writing, special effects, excellent dialogue/actors really contributed to the fun, but the fact that it was a period piece helped it stand out as well from being a generic horror/action/comedy film. This "Mummy" reboot on the other hand sounds very generic, but what should I suspect from the director of Underworld? He'll probably just do the same thing except with a mummy which is kinda lame. From what I suspect, the movie will be devoid of the whole "adventure" element of the Mummy and replaced with action.
Bleh…like Buuhan said...it sounds more like a syfy original movie.
I guess we're going to find out what the Mummy equivalent of a Sparkly Vampire is.
Oddly enough. the Universal Mummy film with the most recent setting prior to this was The Mummy's Curse, which was made in 1944 and set in 1995.
