funny cus it never actually comes out at 7:30 EST. Comes out either 9 or 10
Oh, looks like Z himself will get a cameo of some sort. Animation-wise Shuichi Ito is right at the top of the key animator list.

That's the Japanese airtime.

Fighting a canon VA in a filler arc, have to say I did not expect that.

What's the big deal ? They probably won't kill each other and Oda is overlooking it.

ahh i see, i always thought it was almost simultaneous
I knew that zoro's fight woudn't ladt long but still that was really teasing. Shuzo's laugh is even more ridiculous than whitebeard's….
That seemed like an okay episode, in terms of everything really art, animation etc. Well, this filler definitely has more to do with the movie than the Little East Blue one, Ain and kind of Z at least made an appearance more than briefly at the end.
Some kind of ad for something on 2/8/13. Maybe another special?
Anyways, preview for next time.

If you're talking about the red tect with Nami and Robin then it's to say that the manga has sold more than 280 million volumes. No special.

!
Is it me, or does it look like Shuzo wants dat giant ass?
Not exactly sure why Momonga was at one point fighting side-by-side with Shuzo, but whatever. Hopefully he'll make an impromptu return next episode and kick some sort of ass, cause this week he did nothing but be a bitch. And how did that vivre card thing work? Was that a piece of paper that he threw at the raft?
A pretty meh episode; seems like the lowest point of the arc. Just one more to go, right? Or is it two?
lol the biggest fail when the neo marines decide to become "torpedoes" and yet despite their ability to steer they still explode on the rocks instead of the Sunny hahahh
Pretty okay episode.
The animation was kinda sloppy and awkward in some parts, like when Shuzo and Momonga were using Geppou.
But besides that, I'm glad Shuzo isn't really a pushover. Momonga vs Zoro was such a tease. lol
The part where Sanji kicks Luffy into the ground and then Luffy just pops up all bouncy-like was hilarious.
Aside from the fact that this totally screws with canon, I'm finding this arc to be pretty ok. Ain's powers appear to be the ability to change the matter of rocks and minerals, so that's pretty cool. Also, anyone else notice that the reef at the end of the episode is shaped like a Z? I found that to be nice foreshadowing.

He attached the Vivre card to a knife and threw it at the ship.
Only one more episode, then 1 week break, then PH.
Am i the only one who found Zoro struggling against Momonga really weird ?
This episode was okay, but a bit disappointing compared to the past two episodes. As others said, this is probably the low point of the arc. I expect next week to be better. There were some good moments for sure. I mean, even though the Thrust Up Stream was just a mini knock off of the Knock Up Stream, it was still kind of neat I guess. Nami taking command of the crew during these moments is always a highlight for me. There were some funny scenes as well.
I guess my only real issue with the episode is that the action was pretty boring and the animation looked a bit weird here and there. I expected a better fight for both Shuzo and for Momonga, so that disappointed me right off the bat. Then nothing felt like it happened for much of the episode somehow, which I can deal with in a canon arc here and there but not in a filler arc that is already stalling for time. If anything, to make up for that, filler arcs should aim to have good pacing like most of the G8 arc.
My last gripe would be Panz Fry. I don't like his character that much, and though I can respect him for honoring his code as a giant and a chef, I feel like someone with his bounty level should at least be able to be more intimidating against the marines. Yes, his bounty was earned from his actions and not his strength, but in order to do the things he's done, he'd need to be at least as strong as Oimi and Kaashi, if not stronger. At least Lily is a great filler character.
Next episode looks to be better, though, and I hope we get to see a bit more of Z and Ain.
Oh, and the two best scenes in this episode were:
Lily: I got tons of food from the marines!
Zoro: You're greedy!
Lily: I got some sake.
Zoro: Good work.
Chopper: Panz Fry needs rest, but he'll be okay.
Luffy: Okay! Go and make me some good, like, right now.
Gotta love how Luffy just does not give a damn when he's hungry.
Shuzo's laugh is fucking awesome!

No, you're not. (It's probably bad to weirder to be weirded out by that though..)
This little arc started off on a bad note for me, but I gave it a chance because it's a movie tie-in..It had promise, but this episode kinda ruined it for me. I'm just not seeing the point of it anymore.
Lily and her dad are just empty shells for characters, the weather is lacking that New World vibe, everyone seems out of character, and the constant use or geppou is just irritating. It just feels too much like filler.
I wish it was more like G-8..
@nodensuke:

I'll give you the dad, but how is Lily an empty shell? I like her personality and think it's fine.
@nodensuke:
everyones out of character,
They all seemed pretty in character to me. What exactly seemed out of character?
As said in my post above, though, this episode was pretty lack luster. I still think it's a decent arc. Compared to Little East Blue, this is like gold.

She reminds me too much of Camie, that is all.

I don't know, maybe it's just me. Lately I've just been turned off the anime's portrayal of the crew.

Compared to Little East Blue, yeah. I guess I'm just bitter towards there being filler at all instead of PH.
It also feels too much like a Toriko special (I'm not much of a Toriko fan)..
@nodensuke:

Lily doesn't deserve to compared to someone as cool as Camie

The anime ruined Camie, and she was already pretty "meh".

Beat me to it! Couldn't have said it any better.

I understand. I mean, it's not like I don't want to see the next arc animated. Of course I do. I just want the pacing in the next arc to be better than FI was during the middle, and truthfully, the anime and manga are way too close for comfort. Even though these four weeks won't do much, hopefully they gave Oda enough time to end the arc before the anime gets too deep into it.

I'm not going to say Lily is better than Camie, a canon character who I like a lot. But I do quite like her. She does remind me of Camie a bit, but she's unique enough for a filler character. Would you guys rather have another snot nosed brat? At least Lily is more interesting…

True enough. It's getting quite close, and I'd also much rather bask in the greatness of PH with pacing/animation that matches its counterpart.
It's been discussed at length and answered over and over, but I still just don't understand why Toei has to release an episode a week when it cuts the quality of the episodes so much.

Because it'd be stupid for them not to. Do you really think Toei gives a shit if the quality is bad as long as it gets the ratings it does?
The dad has no personality lol.

Nope. But they should.
@nodensuke:
Nope, but they should.
Why? I'd love if they dead, but animation can be expensive, and Toei is in it for the money. If they upped the animation dramatically, you would not see a dramatic increase in ratings, so for Toei, there is no incentive. You're asking them to throw money away so you can watch a slightly better cartoon

What's wrong with that? If you're gonna do it, do it right..
Any series successful enough to last as long and have as many episodes deserves a bigger/better budget. Especially one that doesn't have an episodic plot.
They've shown they're capable of making quality episodes so they should do it.

I don't think you understand how economics works. The reason Toei doesn't give One Piece the biggest budget is because it's so popular that people will watch it in large amounts even if the animation is shitty. You can call that wrong, but its just as much the fault of the fans who put up with it as it is the company

I understand it just fine.. It's a shitty way to treat a series and it's fans especially since they do put up with it and follow along weekly. Can you blame them though? Most of them grew up watching it and just can't part from it now, even if they wanted to.
Thought this episode looked very rushed and ended up being a little strange:
Shuzo destroying/exploding the Marines all of a sudden, explosion slapped above a still shot, very awkward.
Out of place escape with that up-stream thing.
Characters looking extremely out of proportion beside the sunny-go.
Inconsistent all round, a lot of animation was terrible, but there was some nice short fighting shots. Oh and Ussop looked awesome!
I'm starting to get tired of this arc. Bring me next one.
Anyway art was kinda off at times, like when Neo Marines fought with regular ones at the beginning. Pathetic. :getlost:
I wonder what happened to Momonga. Did he just decide to give up and geppou back to the nearest marine base? He would have drowned if Szuzo actually knocked him out after all.
PS Does anyone else find it kinda weird that the movie was released before tie-in filler was over? Makes it even less interesting.
I enjoyed it for the most part, can't wait to get back to the next arc =]
Not a bad episode. I stayed interested throughout and appreciate the action sequences being fairly exciting. I'm glad it isn't gonna devolve into predictable and formulaic one-on-one fights. I liked the bit where they're resting and Luffy is kicked underground. Really random, but it made me chuckle. Also good to see they're still playing with the crazy weather and ocean patterns the New World allows by making up the Thrust Up Stream. Good episode imo.
Am i the only one who found Zoro struggling against Momonga really weird ?
probably one of the few, Momonga is a Vice admiral, he is supposed to be string because after he is done there are only admirals and Akainu (maybe Kong) left. So far for the marines.
Let Luffy struggle with captains like Smoker for a while before thinking of taking down a vice admiral.
Well OK episode but as awesome as last one
The randomly suicidal Neo-marines was hilarious.
It was like "LET US BE TORPEDOS, LONG LIVE MARINES"
Erm, you could have fought without torpedos guys.
I mean there's showing dedication and there's throwing your life away for the dumbest reasons possible.
I don't like how they made Zoro fight Momonga.I mean what if he planned something in the future involving Momonga? Now everything is confused and stuff
Neo-navies going kamikaze was hilarious like some of you already pointed out. And one of them crashed before reaching the ship. Like… ok…
So I'm probably stupid for saying this, but who's the giant in the 578 preview? In the red pants that is*

I have to disagree with you there, at first i was confused why Zoro was having such trouble but you gotta realize that Momonga's a vice admiral…...actually no Zoro should've kicked his ass >:) BUT this was a good confrontation in my eyes i mean now they're just gunna want to kill each other even more.
I absolutely love the fact that instead of alliying themselves with Mominga to fight him our Strawhats just decided to take everybody on. This is so them :)
