I'm excited for this too as it has been quite some time since we have seen a game just for Yoshi.
Reminds me of Little Big Planet

reminds me of yoshi's story
which isn't a great thing come to think about it
Yeaaaah definintely getting major Yoshi Story vibes…not a good sign.
So they're sticking with the yarn gimmick, eh? Oh well, at least it looks cute.
It's kinda sad. I heard Kirby's Epic Yarn was supposed to be a new IP, but then they caved and used Kirby in order to sell the game. Which in itself isn't bad from a bussiness perspective. It's just (kinda)sad.
Looks like a nicer version of LBP. Hopefully they look back at Yoshi's Island when making it.
It looks cute. Also makes me want Namco Bandai or Ganbrion to do a Chopperman themed game.
i just hope it's not as easy as epic yarn. I like the look but i would've prefered something different in style. I thought they could've made the game like really good with a pastal style hand-drawn looky feel
I like it from an artist perspective, but I heard you can't even die in Epic Yarn.
I hope this game doesn't follow suit.
Looks like shit.
fuck you guys, I'm excited. Epic Yarn was whimsical as all get out, and I had a lot of fun playing it with my sister. I never minded that it wasn't anything like any other Kirby game (because kirby games are crazy one-offs half the time anyway), but a spiritual successor with Yoshi as the theme sounds just as neat.
I'm also intrigued by the screens where Yoshi is a fully 3D yarn doll. Perhaps those segments will have gameplay more typically associated with Yoshi? I also wonder how/if they will include transformations in the 2D-yarn stages, because that really isn't Yoshi's thing…

If it is anything like Yoshi's Story…then it will probably be shit. If it is anything like Yoshi's Island, then at least it will be fun to play with some longevity.
And this is coming from a fellow that loved every single Kirby game made (including Epic Yarn).

I enjoyed epic yarn as well and played it with my little sister because it was so easy. I don't mind that but i'd rather this was hard like yoshi's island was.
I think it's like a health thing maybe? Maybe if yoshi get's hit he turns into a 2-D yarn yoshi.
And transformation and yoshi do mix. remember the train and helicopter yoshis. If this is like epic yarn those could return.
Wonder if we'll get multiplayer as well. 4 different coloured yoshi's at once

you're right, I'd forgotten all about the transform blocks. The way the transformations were handled in Epic Yarn were closer to that, than to anything in a Kirby game.
as for the difficulty, since this game's pedigree seems to be Yoshi's Story and Epic Yarn, I think it's safe to say your sister will be able to beat it again.
Kirby of the Yarn was very good. Complaining that you can't die is kind of like complaining about how you can't die in Wario Land 3. You don't get the platforming setbacks that WL3 has, but a core mechanic of the game is in its collectibles and when you get hit you lose a good chunk of gems.
If you play through terribly and never care, maybe it's a boring game, but there is some genuine challenge at times in completing a level while getting a gold rank, which is entirely the intended aim of the player.
I spent quite a few days on it and really enjoyed it. Absolutely charming game and as a platformer it was above standard. The level design does have some excellent tightly put together passages, although for the most part it was relatively ordinary.
As long as this is kind of a spiritual continuation of the Kirby game, I think it'll at worst be pretty okay. I just hope the level design is a bit less gentle than Kirby of the Yarn's was (because boy it was gentle. Usually made for a relaxing game at least?) and they take more advantage of Yoshi as a character. I also hope he's not the same horribly babied up Yoshi that we've been getting the past while, but for a game as cuddly looking as the Yarn series (?) I'll sigh and go on a limb and say it'll probably make as many bubbly cooing sounds as it can.
I miss you Yoshi's Island Yoshi.
I'm excited for this. Yeah the yarn outline started with Kirby, but those later shots look like a full on HD Yoshi's Story which started that story book arts and crafts style over a decade earlier.
The Yoshi's Island/Story director is in charge of this one so I have faith it will be a quality title. I'm going to guess that the way Yoshi's Story did things to progress will not see the light of day at all. No particular reason, I'm just expecting more of a Yoshi's Island structure.
This can and should be our first co-op Yoshi title, I doubt it but I want it to happen so badly! Hovering is back and of course slurping. I suppose eggs come after his body is filled in, which I think looks so awesome when in his full yarn mode.
