Freedom of speech is one of those things in America that bugs me somewhat. It's a great privilege, but it also crosses the line where people are free to offend with non-violence. I like to believe that somewhere in the future and maybe even during this era, that words do get equal as enough treatment as actual violence. Y'know, I pondered about this today. Given their notorious reputation and inconsiderate maliciousness, how come no one has ever taken any sort of extreme action against them? I am no supporter of violence and killing, even given Westboro's sickening nature, but I just don't understand how they have managed to go around shitting on people's mournings for so long and not face any sort of extreme violence from some lone person, or even a small group who was pushed past their limits of tolereance with the "church."

I guess no one has been pushed to that point yet, or finds prison time worth it. And I guess that is true; the WBC are so ridiculously awful no one takes them serious, or worth it, even given how evil they have been. I still find that hard to believe that not one person has ever attempted some sort of extreme attack, but maybe it's for the best.

Honestly, even given their terribleness, it would still be better to see the group's demise in a non-violent, law-abiding way, rather than more bloodshed. At least it would be just and fair, unlike their interpretations of holy writings that they preach.

America's rulings on freedom of speech are in my opinion its greatest success. Lots of European countries' freedom of speech is more muddled. The WBC would almost certainly serve time in jail, and I'd argue that's counter-productive, because then everybody would think justice had been served without looking at the larger root cause of the problem–the perniciousness of evangelicalism in general. To answer your question, under the assumption they will show up;

There are groups of anti WBC that follow them for this very purpose, they keep up with their news feeds/website what have you. The only people who need to know, who will take action already have the information. At most this should be spread as a forewarning to a local level, not an international one where most news media will beat it like a dead horse, thus reinforcing their existance and giving them purpose.

tldr; There are anti-WBC groups that will already by default take action. You also have to consider Obama made a public speech, with a threat of something like this, it wouldn't surprise me if there is federal level security in one form or another be present.

North korea is kind of the joke of the modern world, so no I shouldn't. Thanks for reinforcing that it was in fact a joke. It was also a coincidence they fell for that "onion" article not even a week previously. But there are plenty of other examples, especially in china, such as train crashes litterally covered up and ignored. Though that was a year ago.

As for "assumptions", I made the assumption that WBC will show up at Connecticut, or at least, has a chance they will.

As for your 1), if I'm reading this correctly, you're basically claiming that WBC cannot gain any more infamy than they have, therefore more exposure will not achieve anything. Well, KKK's infamy knew no ends, but we didn't stop focusing on them in attempt to paint the racism issue as a whole to be damaging to the society, right? We only stopped focusing on them once the issue was resolved in civil rights movement, and they were rendered irrelevant by the passing of time.
As I see WBC as a hate-group, albeit a much smaller scale, the same thing can apply.

Until the LGBT movement is fulfilled, pressure of fire need not be stopped. That is my opinion on the matter.
