Apples and oranges, which unsimilar thing is better??

This is a weird thread idea I've had for a while, it probably won't work out, but…

Take two things that are sort of similar, but so different that they normally wouldn't invite comparison, and compare them, to try and determine which is better.

For example, compare Cats Don't Dance with Big 0.

One is a western animated movie, one is an anime. One has Scott Bakula as a tapdancing musical cat, the other has Steven Blum as a psuedo-Bruce Wayne that pilots a giant robot. One has a an evil version of Shirley Temple, the other has a girl with a cd drive in her head. One has a giant gorilla manservant with a booming voice, the other has a butler that carries around a semi-automatic rifle. One has glitzy musical song and dance numbers, the other has giant robot battles. Both have an awesome soundtrack.

Which is better?

Okay, mostly I've just been wanting to get people to compare Cats Don't Dance and Big-0 because they're so different. But I thought as a thread idea it could lead to other interesting stuff.

Haven't seen Big-O (commence stone-throwing) so I can't compare. But Cats Don't Dance was pretty good.

Big O's usage of the theater in its narrative frame was really great and I don't think Cats Don't Dance's similar appropriation of the stage was very interesting in comparison. Like it was so literal. They were performing on stage and there was no symbolism or anything, it was just broadway! However in Big O, it is like some kind of long performance, still going, with no one watching, and because shows are meant to be watched, in Big O it is very interesting.

that is very sad and Cats Don't Dance was largely happy, although Big O also had some happy moments like its intro which was very uplifting and powerful.

I think if Cats Don't Dance had Schwarzwald that would be one thing but it doesn't.

Cats Don't Dance, I feel, was such a brilliantly produced love letter to Broadway that Big O doesn't really compare. Like, Darla Dimple is exemplary of how to make a good villain that isn't overdone or anything, and I don't think any work of fiction can ever really compare, you get me?

I do agree that Cats Don't Dance was a bit more happy go lucky than Big O but that's what makes it better.Big O's "show that nobody watches" thing just feels convoluted and Square Enix-esque in comparison to Cats Don't Dance's very warm and timely message of inclusion.

I watch both shows (although I haven't seen any episodes of the 3rd MLP:FiM season yet) and I think Gravity Falls is the ones with the better plots and jokes overall.
Not saying that MLP:FiM is a bad show, but I just don't think it's as good as GF. Also the fandom can be annyoing sometimes (not meant in relation to this forums though).

What's better: Pizza or the Nintendo Wii?

See, I'm eating pizza and playing the Wii as we speak, so I'm quite familiar with both subject matters. I love pizza and I love the Wii, but neither is my favorite thing in either category: There is better food than pizza, there is better console than Wii. However, what makes a pizza? Toppings! What makes a game console? Toppings! (Games!) I'm a fan of anything on pizza. Pepperoni, ham, sausage, cheese, onions, mushrooms, chicken, spinach, anchovies, tortilla chips, bacon, apple slices, you name it. But the Wii is filled with bland, uninspired, phoned-in toppings I mean, who would go out of their way to order a pizza with Wii Sports Resort? I know I wouldn't.

But, the Wii has the best topping of all: Xenoblade Chronicles. In fact, these past couple of years, the Wii upped its topping game pretty fierce. And pizza with Xenoblade Chronicles as a topping would probably lead to cutting my espohagus on the disc shards. If you consider the best of what Wii and pizza have to offer, canadian bacon and pineapple (or chicken alfredo and mushroom pizza) has NOTHING on the Monado. If you consider the variety though, I'd say pizza wins this hands down.

Cats Don't Dance has Max. Beyond that there's nothing realy memmorable about it. I liked it, don't get me wrong, but that's the only thing caught my eye.

Well, anyway, both are great shows, but I gotta go with MLP. Yes, I will admit the writing for GF is (so far) better than MLP, but I like the animation style of MLP better and I like the characters more. And yes, I love the comraderie of the MLP fandom.

I'll be honest, once it was all said and done, I felt kind of disappointed with the Wii. Not that it was a bad system and didn't give us some great games, but there were quite a few dry spells throughout its run where there weren't any games I was really interested in. And quite a few games I played/bought turned out disappointing. Plus, the motion control gimmick got old.

Pizza, on the other hand, is always great. And it has the added bonus of fulfilling the bodily need of hunger. So yeah, gotta go with pizza.

@ Pizza or Wii. Now, being as OCD about comparisons as I am, I've been doing this for a long time - comparing food to series or other things and have been surprised with the results. Now I'm assuming it doesn't refer to a single SLICE of the pizza, right? Just pizza forever? If pizza forever then… probably pizza. I'm not much of a gamer admittedly but I don't think even if I was if a game system would replace a staple of food and enjoyment for me like pizza. (but I could be totally wrong on that... I've been behind on the modern gaming front for years now).

Wish I could do the Doctor Who vs Hunter X Hunter one but I'm just now starting on the former.

The comparisons between Monkey D and John Locke is mainly one of:

**1) Old School (John Locke) trying to stay useful to in a new society

VS

2)Youth (Luffy) claiming their rightful position as societies' new leader.**
Throughout the show Locke goes through the tribulations that many older people eventually must face: trying to remain relevant in a new society. When John does something his motives extend past just trying to help; he's also trying to prove his worth.

Proving one's worth is something that Luffy also tries to do; however, in Luffy's case he must prove to the current leaders of the OP society that he deserves to be acknowledged as a higher echelon in his world.

Which is better? (as far as this concept of proving one's self is concerned)

I commend both of them for their persistence in trying to prove their worth; however, I'm going to give this one to John. He shows that even when you're old that you can still BE great. He lives everything out to the fullest (something I can see Luffy doing as he gets older….if he does get older)

…..Never heard of the former. But the latter! Beauty and the Beast's soundtrack is such.....so magnificent, so well orchestrated......I mean, you can take away the animation and writing for the movie, and still hit a masterpiece with the music alone.

Everybody Loves Raymond! That's a show I watch with my dad and sister and we always laugh.

Hm…..on one hand, Morgan Freeman is a rewarding presence in films. From playing a prisoner to God to Nelson Mandela to a leader of an assassin group.....I enjoy his movies. And when he narrates....prepare to be blown away. I mean, he made March of the Penguins really alluring to the ear.

But Bruce Lee....his movies are full of great kung fu action. He's a legend.
….Both are flim greats, but Freeman's got that narrating edge. Morgan Freeman!

Lawn gnomes are creepy D: Chandeliers!

Doctor Who vs. HxH is a tough one. I'm only up to the beginning of the third season for the former. Both have mindblowing moments as well as mediocre ones. I reserve judgment based on the excuse that I'm not done with Doctor Who yet.

I also pick Thomas the Tank Engine because of how timeless it is. I saw a 3-year-old girl clutching it tightly just a few weeks ago.
