Winter 2012/2013
-

I want to help your thread but I honestly have no idea really…
A lot of the movies look tantalizing. Kizumonogatari, Nekomonogatari, One Piece Film Z, Hunter X Hunter movie. All of those.
Just gonna be another season where I play it by ear and drop things I don't like. (though I've only ever dropped 3D and things that are just not what I'd really consider "anime" but more low-budget toy promotion)
In other news, it's fucking hard to keep up with new anime. I'm really really really gonna try to watch most stuff in the winter season.
-
Winter 2013 anime: nonexistent.
No, honestly, there is only the continuation of
Chihaya'sTaichi's story. And that's it. A few great movies like Berserk, Monogatari series, Rakuen Tsuihou (new Urobuchi IP) and the latest One Piece film, yes, but no one will see those until the DVD/BD are out in late summer. So it's a great thing that most worthwhile Fall 2012 series are two cour.
-
Yeah next season looks pretty lame, a few shows that might be fun but nothing significant.
All those films that we won't be able to see until 2014!
-
Well, except fourth season of Minami-ke i don't want anything from that series list.
Erm…I think I missed something but isn't Nekomonogatari supposed to be Tv series, and Kizumonogatari is a movie?
-
The majority of next season does indeed look to be a steaming pile. The only thing I am considering watching at the moment is Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, which is based on a manga that I am following. Even that looks like it might be a disappointment, as the character designs/art I've seen in trailer don't seem particularly good.
Erm…I think I missed something but isn't Nekomonogatari supposed to be Tv series, and Kizumonogatari is a movie?
My understanding was that Nekomonogatari: Black was supposed to be a 4 episode TV series. Maybe the chart-maker messed up.
-
Chihayafuru second season, Sasami-san@ganbaranai and maybe Ishida to Asakura and Tamako market. But yeah, this anime season seems lame.
-
Slim pickings. Maybe Amnesia, and the To Love Ru - Darkness special. Also the Sket Dance Special and the 08 MS Team one. And of course, One Piece Z… (yeah, like I'll find it anywhere...)
-
- a bunch of moe moe shit
- another amnesia-inspired anime
- another death game anime
- some kiddy shit
God, this Winter's anime season is the epitome of what's wrong with the anime industry today… there's nothing ambitious... just a rehash of old shit catering to otaku who wanna fuck 2D school girls.
At least there are some decent movies... but fuck...
-
I think this is the first season in a while that there isn't a single show that I'm interested in watching. Most of the stuff I'm watching from Fall are two-cour anyway, or four in the case of Uchuu Kyodai.
Well, I'll probably watch the Star Driver movie when it eventually comes out in the hope that it gives a better conclusion than ''final boss is defeated, show's over…what? Character resolution? Why would you want that?''.
And Z, of course.
-
I'll watch the NotLupin-In-Historical-Japan series:
-
Based on that chart I'll be watching the following series.
- Haganai 2 (in love with that series)
- Savanna Game
- Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru (holy Jesus what's up with those longish titles lately)
- Senran Kagura
- Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?
- Sasami-san@Ganbaranai
- D.C. III (not sure about that one yet since I haven't watched the two prequels)
- Cuticle Tantei Inaba (looks funny I guess)
- Tamako Market (fucking KyoAni- no questions asked)
- Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
- Yama no Susume
- Amnesia
- Kotoura-san
- Vividred Operation
Looks like I won't have trouble finding shows to watch. :P

Pretty much this.
Most of my stuff is going to be continuing from last season though so there aren't much worries. Though I am looking forward to the return of my Taichi Tuesdays. :3
Chihiyafuru was a GREAT series, so I'm glad that the boosted manga sales enabled it to get a second season (which had seemed unlikely).Definitely Gonna Watch:
-Chihayafuru (can't wait can't wait can't wait can't wait. Most anticipated for sure.)
-Maoyuu Maou Yuusha (I read the manga and liked the role reversals in a traditional fantasy setting. How does a Hero best serve his people when they don't know how to best serve themselves? Team up with a sensible Demon Queen and work on improving agriculture and literacy rates to tackle income inequality! Needless to say: I'm there)Likely To Check Out:
-Star Driver Movie (whenever)
-One Piece Film Z (they)
-Berserk Movies (come)
-Rakuen Tsuihou (out; being movies we won't be seeing them for a long time)
-Any Non-Garbage, I don't have very high hopes from this list right now.Continuing from Last Season:
-Hunter X Hunter (Greed Island. After a stellar adaptation of the York Shin arc I've got very high hopes.)
-Magi (I'm extremely pleased with the adaptation so far. We're in the midst of the Balbadd arc so things can only get better from here)
-JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP)
-PSYCHO-PASS (Definitely keeping with it. Though I am enjoying it, it's got a very Ghost in the Shell SAC vibe in that it's very cerebral and slow paced which is both good and bad. I'm still waiting for my WHAM! episode though.)
-ROBOTICS;NOTES (The mystery is being built piece by piece. I look forward to it but rather dislike Kai's attitude. We'll see where it goes.)Dropped from Last Season:
-Shin Sekai Yori (Couldn't get into it. May need to give it another chance)
-Zetsuen no Tempest (I ended up getting caught up on the manga before even finishing episode 2. I'm… not sure I like it? The whole thing is rather huge on exposition, hypotheticals, and mindgames which feel wasted on such an uninteresting cast. I'd be way more invested if the characters compelled me to be)
-Sword Art Online (Gary Stu Harem, Incest)We were pretty fortunate in getting some real amazing anime this year so I guess the streak was gonna end sooner or later.
We'll see if there's much on this list worthwhile, but thank god for Fall 2012 is really what we all should be saying. -
And another season without an anime for "until death let us part" …
-
Damn, i can't remember such a loli-filled season before. Terrible.
The only series i'm potentially interested in is the Roman one, especially after seeing the character designs. Maybe that SHAFT one too, although i don't know anything about it.

Inferno Cop
I don't know if this is the worst or the best show ever, but suddenly I don't feel as bad about this winter season.
Continuing from Last Season:
Are you not watching Uchuu Kyodai, Silence?
Why are you not watching Uguu Kyodai, Silence?
-

Why are you not watching Uguu Kyodai, Silence?
It's so long, Silver!!!
It's so long. I don't know if I can catch up to a show like that. ;___;
I meant to in the beginning, but the episode numbers slowly but steadily got further and further away… -
Uchuu Kyoudai also suffers tom being a Japanese space program advertisement, so (I've heard) most of the story quality is diluted by that.
I'm not watching anything new this season. Instead I'm playing the Little Busters VN (my friend said the anime was horrible; so I play the VN first; then watch the anime and realize it's worse than he suggested) and goofing off with other stuff. Maybe I'll write a fanfiction or something.
-
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha anime is coming now? I REALLY hope they don't screw up with it, it's one of the most amazing things out there.
-
….There's a Hetalia Season 5!?
Nekomonogatari and Kizumonogatari for me.
Damn, i can't remember such a loli-filled season before. Terrible.

It's literally the best Anime I've seen this year, out of many. So much quirky, intelligent and hilarious dialog with beautiful animations I can't tell you. I would watch it here:
-
Blah, blah, and more blah. Two movies, at the most, and that's about it. My taste really are diverging from the road that anime has been heading these last couple of years. I used to find new series so quickly I couldn't keep up. Now I literally have to search, lol. Ahh, the joys of an undiscerning childhood mind.

Maybe it´s also because of the fact taht 90% of the new anime are "moe".

I think it just varies with the season now, Autumn and Spring were really good seasons this year with a pretty good variety of shows whereas Summer and this Winter look to be pretty disappointing with many shows just focusing on the lowest common denominator and focusing either on T&A or just cute girls.
Needless to say I think I'm going to end up catching up on my backlog throughout next season
-

Even the shows that aren't "moe" aren't very good.
One of my friends (whose opinion I value) was raving about Psycho-Pass as the snap last season, so I just finished all the current episodes…and found it painfully shallow, sometimes obnoxious, and not very exciting. The parts I liked best? Being horrified at the insensitive brutality of some killers, and the pure euphoria of watching those killers getting blown up or terrorized in retribution for their vile deeds.
I definitely feel that anything that's contaminated with mainstream influence seems to be a step below anime over the past few years. Heck, we were all bashing Geass back in the day, but Geass looks like genius compared to something like Psycho-Pass.
-
If people can't find a few shows worth watching every season they aren't trying very hard.
There were some excellent seasons this year and last.
-
I feel pretty nostalgic about 2006/2007, when I was first getting into anime big time, because there were a lot more than a few good shows during those years, there were a lot of good ones, alongside some great One Piece segments, Death Note and other stuff.
Let's look back at 2006…
Fate/stay night, Utawarerumono, Haruhi, Higurashi, Kemonozume, Kanon, School Rumble, Welcome to the N.H.K.!, Ouran High School Host Club, Code Geass.
All of those titles were top-tier and many spawned franchises that we're still seeing milked today (FSN/Haruhi/Higgy).
What's even more curious…Wikipedia tells me that 151 anime were released in 2006, and that number went down through 2010, but saw a bit of an uptick from 2011+. 2012, it turns out, has the most titles since 2006, but oddly enough I've found this season to be no different from every season since 2008 - only a handful of shows are worth following, and maybe 2-3 tops are worth finishing all the way.
-
I never understood what was so great about Haruhi; she's was pretty obnoxious =x
-
You're Canadian so it's possibly a cultural thing. I don't understand snow, moose or maple syrup. I'd say that's pretty even. :p
-
Snow - "God"'s dandruff
Moose - Rocky's best friend and an animal the Russians tried to domesticate pre WW2
Maple Syrup - Tree pissNow explain Haruhi
Explain endless eight
Gogogogogogo -
Haruhi herself isn't that interesting, it's her perspective. High school in Japan is supposedly the "best years of one's life" but is also a transition period, where children become adults. So, here we have Haruhi, a gifted individual who is uninterested in the boring life of adults, and instead pines for the more mysterious, supernatural quality to her younger years.
America, at least, has been heavily focused in media/advertising to try and "recapture" the magic of childhood. Most adults lead relatively repetitive, drab lives of work, buying stuff, watching TV, eating/dying. Not much magic in that, so many an effort goes to try and rekindle the discovery of the world when it was new and unexpected.
The supernatural stuff being real is the hook to keep the viewer interested. From Haruhi's perspective, it's all make-believe afterall.
Endless Eight was a stupid decision by Kyoto Animation and someone was justifiably fired for it.
-
-
Calling it subpar suggests it was below average. I'm deathly curious what you consider to be an "average" anime.
-
Guys… guys...
I think Nekomongatari's livestreaming in Japan right now, and that we'll get subs in a few days!!!
fangasm
-
What a terrible looking season. I'm surprised there is even a spinoff series for that one douche Zetta Children.
-

But whatabout the Monogatari series?!
-
Only some movies for me it seems
-
Definitely will pick up Chihayafuru s2 after it's done (I've stopped picking up series before they're complete years ago).
Eh, I had fun with the first season, might as well continue with Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai Next.
Tamako Market sounds like a maybe.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha is another maybe.
Everything else…. will depend on the reviews I read when it's season roundup time. -
So how were yesterday's airings? (Or is it too soon for subs?)
-
Well, it looks like Nekomonogatari: Kuro aired in 4 parts. The first part has been subbed. The Animation quality has not slipped, so props to SHAFT. It appears that the OST is being recycled (not a complaint). Overall, there doesn't seem to be a discernable change in style, so I am satisfied.
-
Anything else guys?
-
If you aren't watching Jojo, I have to ask…
! DO YOU EVEN POSE?!
! -
Watched Maoyuu Maou Yuusha. I have to say, even with the design changes (making some characters look younger or older) and the "investiment" on animating Demon Queen's boobs, it's a really good adaptation, more than I was expecting.
I suggest everyone to give it a try.The boobs animation I'm talking about
!
Also, the comparision between manga and anime's designs:
Anime! Manga

Dude those horns from the manga version are super awesome.

Dude those horns from the manga version are super awesome.
And that worries me on how they'll design the other monsters. Some of them are amazing in the manga, I just hope they don't end looking lame on the anime.

That would be worrying. Also that demon in the anime version looks like Orihime. Less dynamic in the anime it seems just with those two's designs.
-
I read the manga for Maoyuu ahead of time but it bored me to tears. Don't say I don't have an appreciation for economics…I have a degree in it.
It's similar to Spice and Wolf I guess, and the anime makes it even more obvious by casting Koshimizu/Fukuyama in analogous roles, but let's get real here. S&W's economics were always second to the romantic tension of Horo/Lawrence, and one could easily imagine the story skimping over all of those details if the economics dared to be subservient to the romance. There was very little "integration" as it were, where the gimmick is actually a storytelling device, like how mahjong is in Akagi. Maoyuu is more of the same, obvious doujin romance pairing with economics on the side. Really, boring economics.

I want my One Punch Man anime T.T
-
Go post that in the OnePunch Man thread, then.

I want my One Punch Man anime T.T
I have to say that I really don't. The transition from manga to anime just doesn't work in my mind for that particular manga. Part of what makes it so fun is seeing spread after spread after spread, and Saitama being loosely detailed while everything around him is in hyper-detailed. It's a lot harder for anime to get the super-detailed thing down these days; they often opt for a more fluid approach (minus backgrounds, always a sight to look at in anime).

Here a first chart of animes in spring 2013
