@valiantt:
Yep, Japanese sits as Category 8 (in some sort of language list for English speaker) as one of THE most difficult languages to learn that requires utmost investment in time and effort (right next to Korean, all Chinese dialects, and Arabic). That isn't to say it isn't impossible, but if you don't have familiar with the East Asian languages (Korean or Chinese), then Japanese will be a whole new challenge. Though I know nothing of Arabic, I am familiar with all three languages and they aren't easy for an English speaker whatsoever.
Arabic isn't that hard. I started learning how to read Arabic off-and-on about a year ago, and I can pretty much read fluently now (though very slowly, and only with diacritics). The most difficult part about it is learning to read right to left (which doesn't take that long to be comfortable with) and mastering the letters of the alphabet which don't exist in English (like ع "eye+n", which is this weird throaty sound, and ض "dawd" which is a "d" sound but like.. deeper).
Although I guess it's easier for me since as a muslim, my lifestyle is such that I pray 5x a day whilst reciting memorized chapters from the Quran in Arabic. I don't understand the words, but I try to pick up the meaning of words here and there though and commit them to memory. But honestly, Arabic is pretty straightforward. I'm focusing on mastering Quranic Arabic, since all the rules of Arabic come from the Quran. Once I have that down i'll move to learning the standard recognizable modern dialect which anyone from any country can understand.
@valiantt:
PS: Korean is an annoying bitch with consonants and vowels modifying the particles (not to mention the obnoxious variations of the "O" and "U" sounds) and Mandarin is confusing as all hell in terms of speaking it correctly.
Have FUN~
KOREAN! The only reason I have an interest in Korean is because of Simon and Martina - I
them. Korean food looks so sexy omggg.

After you catch on to the basics, try watching Chinese shows (not Hong Kong ones) and reading Chinese manga as well, for a more fun way to learn.
Oh Trappy, you spoil me so
You speak Mandarin? Or Cantonese? I will gladly take you up on your offer
Btw, my husband and his family speak Hakka, though his Grandparents speak Mandarin as well. I tried searching up of absolutely ANY information about learning Hakka Chinese, but it seems to be like on its way to extinction or something :S What's up with that?
OMG A WHOLE NEW WORLD OF MANGA?! Yeeeeeeeeesssssssss.
