Up until now, Oda has clearly had fun with his freedom to make the most unpredictable things happen. Has he given himself so many loose ends that he's obligated to tie them all up, thereby overloading his story train?
Example: Was there a "real story" behind Sanji's picture not coming out for his bounty poster? Who cares, really? Except that we'll be hearing from fans about that and a thousand other things that they currently trust him with if Oda closes the story without wrapping it up. Do you think he has a list of things like this somewhere, and waiting to put them all together? Will it hurt anything that he needs to?
Naturally, every character has a dream to reach, and these are another thing he's obligated to tie up before the story ends, or be left apologizing in the end to true fans.
What would you be upset about if Oda forgot to tie it up?
(I couldn't find another thread on this topic, but if there was one, I apologize in advance)
Too much to tie up?
-
-
He doesn't necessarily need to tie everything up.
Every good author leaves some mysteries and loose ends by the time the story is over.
For example, I would be perfectly okay if we never figure out what the figures in the Florian Triangle are.
-
Yeah I agree with Foxy, not every loose end needs to be tied up, some things are more fun when it's left as a mystery.
I also don't think we'll even see half the strawhats achieve their dreams on panel by the end of the manga, probably just Luffy, Robin, Zoro, Franky and Brook. I'd be fine with that as long as the whole adventure is still fun to read.
-

Example: Was there a "real story" behind Sanji's picture not coming out for his bounty poster? Who cares, really?Thats what SBS and databooks are for. (And cover stories in some cases.) And the answer to that specific question is the lens cap was left on.

Oda's got another 10 or 15 years to go yet. He'll cover all the important stuff by the end. He's fantastic about not forgetting even minor characters or details, he isn't going to forgo the big ones.
-
As it has already been pointed out, smaller things and details that aren't THAT important in the story usually get solved in SBS or databooks…
-
I thought that Sanji's bounty poster got explained. The guy had the lens cap on the camera and had to draw a picture from memory.
-
so oda should explain even the littlest scars on each character as well? i dont think so.
-
@Foxy:
For example, I would be perfectly okay if we never figure out what the figures in the Florian Triangle are.
Uh, I don't think so, I've been waiting for like four years already.
-

I'm still waiting for Nami to start drawing that map.
-
Are there really that many BIG loose ends to tie up? Most of them seem like they'll all get settled around the same time by figuring out something that leads into them. I honestly can't think of anything I'd imagine him forgetting.
-
I'm still waiting for Nami to start drawing that map.
Nami's dream is a difficult one.
As, after they have found One Piece, she still has to go through the Grand Line 2-3 times more in order to draw those islands on the map.
That's perfectly fine, she can do that, maybe even on her own or with little help.
However same goes for the New World: she'll have to go through it 2-3 times more.. Which she needs a lot of help for from her crewmates.
And as every crewmember will want to go home after their adventure for at least another while before sailing out again (to help Nami or just to have fun), and it is speculated that Luffy might die, i think it will take a long time for her to actually get that world-map. i dont think we'll ever see it on screen, though it will probably return somehow in the future, even if its just mentioned what shes gonna do.^ That, and i didnt even mention the rest of East Blue and the other 3 seas.
She has a LOT of work to do after the story is finished still.EDIT: on-topic, i dont think Oda will forget much, if not anything.
i trust him in that, but of course some small details might be left out, which as everybody said, will be answered in other books. -

Nami's dream is a difficult one.
As, after they have found One Piece, she still has to go through the Grand Line 2-3 times more in order to draw those islands on the map.Didn't she sell weather to those islands over the timeskip?
-
I'm still waiting for Nami to start drawing that map.
Well, that is naturally handled more of screen, because getting each time they visited an island some panels where she bought maps or did some research would be tedious.
But him forgetting to resolve the dreams of his main characters…no way.So far we get way more explanations of little things we might not have missed by now, than anything else...so iam pretty confident to assume that Oda is well aware of the loose ends he still has and just waits for the right time to solve them.(the end will be perfect for most stuff^^)
That the fandom will be able to find here and there stuff that might need for them an explanations should be granted, but the main issues and important stuff will be without a doubt mentioned sooner or later. -
Nami's dream is a difficult one.
It is possible that during the time skip, while she was on the sky Island, she traveled from the begining of grand line to the sabaody archipelago, and that from that height she was able to see all the islands on the first part of the grand line and draw them.
-
@ CrystalShip and Mortien, thats a good theory you got there!
Crystal, you made it sound like it's confirmed or something, but I do not believe there's any proof that that really happened though?
Nonetheless it would be a good way of solving the Grand Line part and maybe even the other Blues. In two years time she could have travelled to a lot of those parts! -
i personally think that she wouldn't have to travel all over the world to achieve her dream.she will find information in the new world, which will enable her to draw a world map.but that's just my thoughts.
going on topic,i think you shoulg give more examples and specificaly state what are the loose ends you're referring to.if it's related to their dreams, rest assured there's no chance he'll miss them.you should have that much trust in oda.and about minor ones,as isaid you'd have to specify them.there are many reference sources for one piece besides the manga, like SBS,data books and others.most probably any loophole you there is would have already been resolved.
-
I'm still waiting for Nami to start drawing that map.
I am pretty sure she has. They already showed her mapping an island in their first adventure after Nico Robin joined them. Most likely she is drawing a map of every place they visit off screen. And her maps have probably gone to new heights after the time she spent on a sky island
-

I don't remember this happening. I'm pretty damn sure her map thing hasn't been seriously mentioned since the barrel scene when they left Loguetown.

he's talking about a filler.

My guess is that Sanji's bounty poster is more or less tied up. Around the time the Straw Hats got their Enies Lobby bounties, or some time before, Oda maybe thought that he wanted to do a gag with a person who looked like a Straw Hat's bounty poster. The choice fell on Sanji, and to make it so that the poster picture guy was not a clone of Sanji himself, it just randomly happened that the camera didn't work and a drawing was made instead (not that Sanji is a vampire, has a magical hidden eye or whatever).
The beings of the Florian Tringle are BEST left unexplained - at least so I think. It's the "nothing is scarier" and cosmic horror concepts: If you have some nearby woods, and people are mystically killed by an unknown source when they go there, it becomes quite creepy. If it's just revealed that the thing killing people is a tiger, it may still be unsettling to go for a walk in those woods, but you know the enemy and can make up a plan to exterminate it which makes it not seem so dangerous and terrifying anymore.
What I'm wondering more about is, like others have mentioned, Nami's dream and even Usopp's dream. Nami's dream is never being mentioned, which I think is a bit disappointing, but at least we can imagine that she is drawing those maps in her spare time. But while the others' dreams are constructed so they can be reached at Raftel or at the end of Grand Line in general, Nami has to travel around the three remaining Blues to fulfill her dream. And as for now, I cannot see how the series would continue for much time after the New World adventures and the implied war.
Usopp's dream is so abstract that I wonder: When will we know he has fulfilled it? Actually, I think Usopp has already fulfilled it, since he (along with Chopper and to some degree Nami) is the bravest person in the crew after my definition of "brave". Luffy is reckless, not brave - he doesn't recognize dangers so he simply rushes into them without thinking they may hurt or kill him. Zoro and Sanji are much stronger than Usopp so fewer opponents are threats to them, and so they don't have a reason to be afraid as often. But Usopp is always afraid of new islands and opponents, and he always manages to gather courage to face them in the end. And that's what courage means to me: Facing something even if you're truly afraid of it, not facing something you are relaxed about (in that case, I was very brave last time I watched a comedy series). -

I completely agree, I always saw them as the ending scene of a horror movie (Thriller Bark) where something mysterious happens at the end to keep the viewer thinking.

I think sanjis image is drawn cause the guy who took picture forgot to remove the lense cap ( like it was explained in the anime)

Didn't you get this from the Tulpa theory? Where the man goes into the jungle and cuts the monster, but it bleeds and it's merely a tiger? And he comes back to tell the villagers the truth before he dies?
-

That's the right one genius. Try actually watching it

Actually not, I've never heard of that theory before. I just chose the woods because it's a standard scary place (when big and dark enough) that is almost anywhere, and a tiger because it was the first dangerous animal that came to my mind.

Maybe we can send a SBS question about Nami's dream. One thing that bothers me is that when they think all their stuff has been destroyed back in Water 7 Nami is only worried about Bellmer's plants.
-
What I'm afraid of is that there are so many potential enemies we already know about to "take care of" before the end of the story that we may not get any "Wapol", "Eneru" or "Hody" surprise bosses in the future.
They're definitely going to fight Doflamingo. Luffy has to take revenge on Aka Inu for Ace somehow. A fight against Blackbeard is inevitable. There must be some closure with Smoker, maybe even Coby. Luffy has two yonkous to either defeat or ally with to become number 1. Kuma is on the bad side now. If Buggy is one of the two remaining Shichibukais, there's one left to meet and maybe fight. There should be some kind of duel between Luffy and Kidd. What about Vegapunk ?
-
Long time, no see Roman!
I personally feel that Vegapunk will be something other than a direct villain. Consider characters like Dr. Kureha; she had enough on-screen interaction with the Straw Hats to have a positive image, but she was willing to take whatever she wanted from her patients in exchange for medical services. Vegapunk isn't above using humans in his experiments, but he doesn't go out of his way to kill his test specimens- at least not for the lulz. So I suspect that Vegapunk will have a supporting role in whatever story arc he appears in.
-
^ Who are these two jerks??????=
))=)
??? -
On a series level, I expect Oda to remember everything of importance, and some of none.
On an Arc-level, I think he has developed an a tendency to overload them with plot elements, characters and relationships that need tying up, and it hurts his storytelling.
-
Oda got dis shit! Oda da man!
-
The unexpected death of Kaya's parent/parents… :ninja:
But yeah, everything specifically shown in the story as a mystery will be resolved eventually (assuming Oda lives to finish the series and all). Not sure of certain Straw Hats achieving their dreams by the end, but yeah, they'd be close at least.
I do want to know the answer to the Florian Triangle mystery… I'm not saying we have to find out next chapter...

You mean this:
It's Kaido, obviously. He's the Florian Triangle beast.
I can hear it now…
-
So I'm confused was the lense cap in the manga or not? And if it wasn't my guess is that would be the answer given by Oda. The Florian Triangle doens't need to be resolved it's the OP version of Loch Ness/Bigfoot/ect, I'd much rather find out how the fuck Pell survived. I really wish Oda would go ahead and finish up explaining haki (granted their will be more arguments even if he wrote a 300 page book on it) and wrap up DF abilities and SMILES (which I think he'll due soon ). I do hope he explains the frozen prisoners, what Law wants to get back, how Law grew to be able to own Vergo, Law & Dofla's connections, IN THIS ARC or the beginning of the next one.
-
I'd much rather find out how the fuck Pell survived.
Well Pell is a Falcon Zoan so here.
http://earthsky.org/earth/fastest-bird
So far, no bird known can match the flying speed of a peregrine falcon in its hunting dive. The peregrine falcon is the fastest bird – and in fact the fastest animal on Earth – when in a dive. As it executes this dive, the peregrine falcon soars to a great height, then dives steeply at speeds of over 300 kilometers (200 miles) per hour.
-
Well Pell is a Falcon Zoan so here.
that's a pretty good explanation, just wish Oda would mention it
-
that's a pretty good explanation, just wish Oda would mention it
I'd look up the speed of an explosion to see if it lines up - but looking up explosions on a work computer might flag me for innapropriet usage. >.>

LOL, but I was only seeing if a peregrine falcon could avoid an explosion… for science.
-
that's a pretty good explanation, just wish Oda would mention it
People would probably just call it a cheap cop out

So I'm confused was the lense cap in the manga or not?

while i agree somewhat with you on usopp, him having already achieved his dream would be bad for his character development.so i guess he is brave, but he'll become braver in the futureI also like to keep the mistery about the Floridian Triangle monsters.
As for Usopp dream, it is a really abstract dream. In my opinion he fulfilled his dream the moment he stepped on the Going Merry to leave his island. But he'll only realize that when they reach the end of their adventure. He'll se his friends meeting their dreams like Zoro beating Miahwk and Sanji finding the All Blue and he'll ask himself if he's now brave and someone will say "Are you kidding? Look at what you've done since this journey begun!"
And the legend of Captain Usopp and his 8000 followers will live on.Right or not, it's filler, so it doesn't matter one damn bit.
Dude, what the shit?
Do you really want to see a chapter dedicated to Nami drawing a map? Of course she's drawing a goddamn map of every island she visits but everyone already knows that, so Oda doesn't need to show that. The same way Robin is studiyng history, and Chopper is studying medicine, and Zoro trains, and Usupp is inventing something, etc, etc. We already know what they do when they're not fighting around, we don't need to actually see it.Maybe we can send a SBS question about Nami's dream. One thing that bothers me is that when they think all their stuff has been destroyed back in Water 7 Nami is only worried about Bellmer's plants.
Nami is a genius at making maps. She could probably redo every map from memory but she couldn't remake Bellemere trees. Or she had already take them when they left Merry for Usopp.
