      Synopsis:

In the future Japan has become a fractured country, and small towns now exist. The rulers of this world have the cursed power of Telekinesis. When an incident occurs, 5 children come to realize the world is not as it seems, and learn the bloody history behind this world. These 5 children unite and help the world as it falls into a downward spiral of chaos.

      A bit of a trailer:

I've only seen 7 episodes out of 15 out so far, so whatever I say only applies to those.

Anyway, seriously guys, check this out.
It's difficult to say anything without spoiling much but this is a pretty first rate anime:

The presentation is stellar, and produces an incredible mood and atmosphere.
The anime also takes its time in the beginning to set up its characters and world, but even through the happy beginning, you know things are gonna get dark very soon.
Through adventuring and drama it manages to deal with some rather interesting themes, and it's amazing how a cast of mainly kids manages to have such a good amount of maturity.

I guess that's all I'll say for now, 'cause I'm still catching up. Call these my first impressions.

Figured I'd make a thread about it 'cause this deserves all the attention it can get

I've heard a bit about this… I heard at first that things are 'innocent'ish at the beginning then get very dark later on.

          That is exactly right!

I'm surprised that it took you guys so long to open a thread for this show. Especially considering its quality and overall plot. Personally I've been watching Shinsekai yori since it started airing last fall and I admit that it is a little tedious in the beginning. But if you're able to sit through, you'll discover a hidden gem of an anime.
In case some of you don't like such stuff- there's a little shonen ai and yuri but not too much. And if you decide to watch it, go with UTW subs since some episodes are fairly text-heavy and it's important to understand everything correctly (those guys know what they're doing).

I've been meaning to catch up on this one. It totally looked engaging from the beginning but I kind of just… lost it somehow in the depths of my backlog. Also UTW is great. Glad to hear it's worth it!

How are they compared to Crunchyroll's subtitles?

Well, CR can keep trying and trying but will never reach the level of UTW. Fansub groups show tremendous dedication and UTW excels in that.

Looks like another time-skip is coming. And damn, episode #16 was strong…

Yeah, and by now it seems to be clear what happens to humanity in general at the end of this story.
