WHAT A JOLLY GOOD SHOW!
!
this deserves seven seasons and a movie. good goddamn, what a great run of episodes this has been.
What a pleasant series of events. I expected the stereotypical boss fight, and got something better. I look forward to the episodes after this hiatus.
! I never imagined we might get Blue and Yellow Diamond in a casual episode.
! Especially since, I expected Yellow to be a "real" antagonist, but I guess that was a red herring. I assume that's going to be saved for White Diamond, who's kept out of this until now.
! Just goes to show that Steven is better at Friendship jutsu than Naruto ever was.
!
Yeah I saw, that, but it's not equal to a full announcement.
We already knew about that set of episodes. It's the third story arc for the year we know about, and its apparently airing in September.
That's not in any way a new season announcement.
Here, the episode titles we got two weeks ago…
!
Now We're Only Falling Apart
What's Your Problem
The Question
Made of Honor
Legs from Here to Homeworld
Familiar
Together Alone
??? (Reunited)
??? (Reunited part 2)
Escapism
The question now is, is "Reunited" both question mark sets? Or just one of them? It's the difference between having 4 announced episodes left or 5. (And if they don't count full lengths eps, any of of those could still be long, so it could be as much as 6.)
But given where that ended and the preview for the next batch…
! yeah, can see it all wrapping up in 4-6. Not everything, (and that includes no white diamond) but the big stuff that was already in play, and basically all the loose bits from the start are being wrapped.
! Deal with all the shattered messed up gems, and Lars coming home. What else REALLY needs to be addressed? Dozens of little character subplots aren't an issue, montages can take care of those with no words in a minute or two We got a lot of the townfolk subplots on the side of the wedding episode in some fashion or another anyway.
! So Lapis is the Usopp of the group even down to the immunity to the Hollow Fruit.
! In the next batch of episodes, Steven will try to teach Blue about eating fry bits. They also discuss the ethical and moral qualms of colonization on foreign planets.
! They will discover that by just taking a valley for flavor from each planet and then letting them grow and addapt as individuals creates higher quality gems in the long run than giant armies, going a more stable Big Mom's style of a "Life Tax" to get into the gem diamondhood protection, against the sneeple, at least untill steven talks-no-jutsu them into peace.
! In the next episode, Steven and Yellow go to Funland and help Nanafua organize a campaign rally.
! Yellow is trying to become governor. Her opponent is Kevin's dad.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
BTW: status of spoilers, we are back to base danger.
Meaning that the enteriety of the big spoiler was already in an episode, or in next episode's preview.
! So Lapis is the Usopp of the group even down to the immunity to the Hollow Fruit.
! I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was reminded of Usopp VS Perona.
! Lapis: "I'M ALREADY NEGATIVE!!"
! So Lapis is the Usopp of the group even down to the immunity to the Hollow Fruit.
You say "even down to…" but isn't that the only way that they're similar?
--
I will say though, that I also had Usopp thoughts! Glad my follow Arlong-Parkers thought the same thing!
The fight afterwards reminded me of the Thanos fight from Infinity War in several spots as well.
! Absolutely fucked up that they didn't have Andy see Fryman and go "HEY FRYMAN".
! In "Escapism", Steven finds out that Blue has been having DJ classes with Sour Cream.
@Cyan:

I always knew this series was going downhill, and this basically cements it

! In "Escapism", Steven finds out that Blue has been having DJ classes with Sour Cream.
! Well I mean, shit, if Peridot and Ruby can pick up music in two seconds, I'm sure that Blue can work a gameboy synth for some dope-ass beats
! I'm amazed we actually got a lesbian wedding in a kid's cartoon. And actual kissing! Also I loved that Ruby got to wear the dress.
! The fight with the diamonds was pretty cool. I like that Steven has a lot of psychic powers. He's more of the type to try and talk things out so it's not nearly as bad as talk no jutsu in other series where the main character is very much a combatant.
! We don't have too many more plot points to tie up do we? An actual resolution with Yellow and Blue. And then actually learning something about White. And getting Lars back. I can't think of too many other plot threads that need answers.
Nope, they all changed before the second opening. She changed up the first time we saw her defuse and got the Stronger than You song. Colors went more purple and she got a bit more symetrical.
Pearly changed her shorts colors and got rid of the hard to animate transperant skirt… while Amethyst has changed a couple times now.

When did they change from these designs, in-universe?
!
When did they change from these designs, in-universe?
Their beta-test versions are sort of canonical but also not. Presumably that was a phase they had in the 80's or something.
! Great episode. That might be my favorite wedding any show ever done. That short scene of Garnet dancing and hugging herself melts me. If the Pearls are still in the ships, ouch. Guess there's no other way it could've gone. If the Diamonds sent an army they'd be dead. Other favorite moments are Yellow running up on Steven and her inner thoughts.
! No clue how White Diamond factors into all this unless Steven convinces Yellow and Blue to stop all their planet destroying/everyone only does there job crap and White Diamond having none of it.
! Things can't be all hugs and kisses yet. At least Yellow might be upset Pink pulled that stunt and there's the possible tension between the Diamonds and Crystal Gems. And I still want Peridot and Lapis to talk. And Jasper, what's she up to?
Today I found out that I didn't watch Lion 4: Alternate ending.
"Wedding commander, all flowers have been deployed!"
That scene just won't stop to crack me up.
Today I found out that I didn't watch Lion 4: Alternate ending.
There's an alternate ending?
There's an alternate ending?
More like an alternate begining:
It dealt with the fallout of Steven's first code Rose, of him not measuring up to her or her expectations, and is freaking out watching the "For Steven" tape, the one where she claims that he is "going to be human". He went to try and find stuffs on Rose's old hangouts, until they get to where Lion was probably turned, and find another tape, this one is "For Nora".
!
What would happen if Steven Universe followed some other kind of anime rules..
!
! The Universe Charm actually was what worked there though so throwing Greg at Blue probably would have been the best option after all.
! I think she would have been a little too preoccupied with Rose Quartz. Greg wouldnt have time to work his charm. Blue would have just casually tossed him away
Oh my god…. that episode.... That episode OH MY GOD!!! THAT EPISODE!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!
This is Endgame.... we're nearing Endgame.... is there gonna be a final battle with White Diamond now?! What the... I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!
This is Endgame…. we're nearing Endgame.... is there gonna be a final battle with White Diamond now?!
It'd be weird for there to be a final battle with White Diamond now since there's been no build up for her, unless…Season 6?
At this point white diamond (unless she is the blue + yellow fusion) would be very "eh" for me. And her being a fusion doesn't make sense with the one thing we know, her gem is on her forehead.

Well that and her white hand was shown with blue and yellow's hands during the corruption attack

Or…We are Naruto now. With White Kaguya about to show up for the S5 Series Finale.
It is not like fusions design style is to have extra body parts.
WIth only 4 confirmed episodes to go (potentially as much as 6) I think we have to assume White Diamond is something the series just won't have time to get to at this point. Nor does it really need to, honestly. You don't have to address EVERYTHING in the course of a narrative, even a lengthy one.
That said, should there be a season 6, obvious candidate for exploration there.
Party pooper me found everything after the diamonds' arrival ranging from cringeworthy to bad (not Peridot. She is perfect), but god damn if I didn't loved everything before that! I started crying on the first "but for just one day let's only think about love" and just kept going.
As for the current subject, White Diamond can't be introduced, developed, and completed in a handful of episodes and while I don't think the series need to cover everything, she is definitely something that has to be explored. Either she will justify a new season or will be the focus of a movie to conclude the series.
We only need to know the results of Peridot's research, of what can earth give to Homeworld to stave them off, and what exactly is taken from a planet to make gems.
Is it organic life? or is it just eating the things needed for life?
White Diamond was already shown briefly in Your Mother and Mine, so it doesn't seem like they dropped her. Not to mention that this season opened with the Homeworld stuff, which gave us a big emphasis shot on a giant building/ship related in some way to White Diamond. Plus there's the shot we got of her silhouette in Gemcation.
If they weren't going to have time to address White Diamond, I doubt they would tease her existence so much before ending.
They don't work these seasons with the knowledge of "it will end HERE", they work with exit points in mind.
Besides, they will have to work in overdrive to get to a new deal, either peace or a new gem war IN SPACE in 4 episodes.
Pretty much everything we know about White Diamond was introduced in this season tho, including a shot of her hand in motion not too long ago.
I mean at this point, everything regarding the show's status is still speculation, but the White Diamond stuff is clearly something they at least intend to address, whether or not you think they'll get the chance.
Is your point "they introduced it this season, so they must address it this season"?
Because that's what I'm understanding, but it doesn't fit how they write cartoons.
To be fair towards Wagomu's point, I still remember the poster for this season that hinted at a bunch of big reveals:
We got payoff on Pearl keeping her mouth shut to not talk about Pink Diamond, the pink rose with falling pedals in the bottom representing the truth behind Pink Diamond's death/Rose's identity, and both Yellow/Pink Diamond looming over the Crystal Gems to foreshadow them putting Steven on trial in Homeworld and their invasion on Earth for the Cluster.
The only element left for elaboration is the huge obvious White Diamond symbol on the top. I doubt they would put so much emphasis on that if there only thing we would get about her in season five is a quick cameo of her hand in the second Corruption flashback.
Yah, I got nothing on that one. While my view was "building up for next season" that promo places her reveal on this one.

!
It will be revealed that Rose was actually White Diamond all along
@Purple:
It will be revealed that Rose was actually White Diamond all along
That wouldn't make any sense at all.
Clearly it's Onion.
As it turned out pink diamond was a fusion of red and white diamond
It will also be revealed that White Diamond was the progenitor of the corruption and has since been renamed "Crazy Diamond"
Is your point "they introduced it this season, so they must address it this season"?
Because that's what I'm understanding, but it doesn't fit how they write cartoons.
Not necessarily within this season, but the fact that they're been ramping up the hints means there's definitely some intended payoff. Literally the only hints we'd gotten of her existence before were a couple murals and the Diamond Authority insignia; three vague hints across four seasons. Season 5 though? We got the giant statue/ship, a silhouette and an actual part of her in a flashback. Plus the poster that Count brought up. I can't imagine there not being some intended payoff.
If they had just dropped the subject, then White Diamond could have been a weird piece of deep lore we might never get to. Instead, they've pushed the subject forward more than ever, so they're probably gonna do something with that.
Furthermore, White Diamond will also be revealed to be what happened to Ocean Town.

I got Sugilite. Garent's strength and Amethyst's humor lol.
I got Amethyst. Not sure I agree, but whatever.
