I hate that it's so hard to even watch an episode. Hulu doesn't have season 5. Daily motion has these site links I don't fully trust. YouTube has annoying people streaming but talking over dialog. Ugh. I just wanna watch episode 20 lol.
Steven Universe

If Steven was pulling in ratings like that it'd absolutely be renewed without question and we'd be getting constant marathons and new episodes every week.
I do think that the show would have consistently pulled better numbers if it had better scheduling and marketing. I think the SU promos are so off about the nature of the show - like there's this enormous disconnect between the drama of SU and the wacky "it's just a cartoon who fucking cares" vibe of CN marketing. Your post got me thinking about The Last Airbender, a show more similar to Steven Universe than Regular Show or even Adventure Time imo. TLA didn't follow the 11 minute format and it was actually correctly marketed as a family comedy that actually leaned mostly on its dramatic storytelling. Bismuth is still the only 22 minute episode to my knowledge and that's easily in the top 10.
Well, I'm still holding out hope that the crew can wrap things up in a deserving way. Maybe this is just the bitter reality of western animation that I need to swallow.

If you don't mind associating with 4chan degenerates, I usually download the HQ files off Mega through https://sug.rocks/dl.html.

Actually, Avatar was handled pretty badly. Nick had no idea what to do with it because it wasn't like any of their other shows. In its final season they held the second half of the show for months, had episodes leaking overseas, and then binged the last 8 or 9 episodes in a single week.
And Korra they extra screwed with, with scheduling, slow renewal, pulling budgets, only airing episodes digitally, etc.
Also, they let Shamalyan make that awful, awful movie.
The franchise was good and strong enough with rabid enough fans it made them money, but it succeeded more on its own strength rather than anything the network did, so they left it alone, but they absolutely did not push it correctly. They just wanted to throw it on at random like Spongebob.
They might have known how to advertise it, but they certainly didn't know how to handle it.
-
Similarly, Teen Titans Go, trash that it is, pulls in super high ratings pretty regularly…
It really doesn't; it's their highest rated show but it's more like a few thousand viewers edge in the ratings rather than it doubling or getting twice the ratings of other shows on the channel like Adventure Time and Regular Show did at their height.
A lot of that has to do with TTG getting massive amounts of promotion and prime slots; other shows would probably catch up to it pretty quickly if that wealth was spread around. Even then, the average numbers for the last season were roughly half what the show was getting a couple of years ago and lately it's been more like roughly a third to a quarter of the audience.
-
I haven't checked the actual numbers recently. I'm not at all surprised that airing it for 9 hours a day every day has diluted its power somewhat.
-
! Well, based on the next episodes title "Made of Honor", I had pretty strong feeling that was gonna happen. Still, Ruby/Sapphire wedding, yay!
-
Very good episode tonight.
! I tear up a little bit when Ruby asked Sapphire to be married. Also I got a laugh from Amethyst's comment to Pearl at the end of the episode.
-

I'm watching them on youtube. Just filter by upload date and look for the ones ~11min.
-
! Awww, Ruby x Sapphire  still OTP. And now it's more solid than ever.
! I loved the message in this episode, too. That you can be your own person even when you're in a relationship, do your own thing and have a great time doing it, while still missing and thinking about your s.o. and wanting to share your happiness with them too, and that both parts of that are totally okay. -
Amethyst: "I will pierce the heavens!"

Also Ruby was so legit in that last episode.
-
I'm really confused. I just finally found episode 20. But was 21 out now too? Cause 20 didn't have Ruby in it. Are they releasing an episode a day?
Nevermind. I saw the notice at the end of the episode this time.
Man other countries are gonna have a field day trying to edit this stuff to adhere to their standards lol.
-
! I didn't like most of the episode. It seemed really slow in certain places and the only seemed peppered with jokes. The song really didn't sit well with me because the notes of it were pretty all over the place, maybe by design since it seemed like it was close to yodeling but it just wasn't to my tastes. The end was very nice and cute to see though.
! Also I'm glad greg told steven they cant force people back together. He went back to his "it's for your own good" way of trying to get people to do things that he think will be better for them. But greg told him hey man you gotta let people be free to do what they want. And it's really interesting that ruby mentioned how her personality wasn't given a big chance to develop before she fused to become garnet. It's kind of true that she was flung into the fray and didn't have time like peridot or pearl to ease into her own personhood.
! Altogether I'd give this a 6/10 -
I'm kinda bothered by how they glossed over the entire thing with Greg in just one line. I wanted a real reaction from him.
Aside from that, episode was fine. Amethyst MVP yet again, surprising no one.
-
Why? This has very little to do with Greg, as Mr. Demayo said.
-
Amethyst was the best at the start of the series, she continues to be the best.
-
You get away with this because Garnet currently doesn't exist.
-

I actually loved how Greg handled it. I mean, the whole Home World deal has nothing to do with him, so Rose's real identity shouldn't play any big punch to him, it's just like "oh, so she used to be a big gun on the gems world too before we met?". To him it's really nothing more than she having a different name and job on her long (loooooooong) past. As far as he is concerned, Rose's past as Pink Diamond doesn't invalidate anything in the Rose he knew and married.
-
! Oh God, what an insanely cute episode. I was literally grinning and clappin (at 10:30pm no less!) when Ruby popped the question.
! Real emotional rollercoaster too.
! Also, Amethyst makes a surprisingly nice horse. -
Epi.22 - Made of honor
! FINALLY!!!!!!!! Can we have her as a regular now? Honestly, I didn't even liked her that much back then, but somehow having her back just gave me this feeling of a cherished character finally being reintroduced.
! I'm avoiding naming in case someone opened the tag accidentally. -
! Back in Bismuth! and this time it seems permanent. Brilliant way to do the rings too.
-
YouTube is super spoily with the previews for this one. Be warned.
-
I'm unsure if I saw the full episode. It seems to end abruptly.
! Her giving Ruby and Sapphire a pair of rings?
-
Continuity question:
! The bubble vault, wasn't that supposed to be Garnet's room? And just like Sardonyx room souldn't exist without Garnet? Either a continuity error, or we have never seen Garnet's room.
-

! I don't think they ever have shown what Garnet's room looked like. It could have been just a regular room before Garnet made it her room and also if that were true? All the bubble gems would run wild out of their bubble prison.
-

! Isn't the bubble vault underneath the temple?
-
I know that the series isn't going thematically there but one way that Steven could best the diamonds on combat is to fuse with the cluster, managing to take it outside earth so it can be healed as well.
It brings dangers (like what happened to Jasper) and unconfortable questions (how Garnet keept implying rape, but remember that is also necromancy), but in a battle series with a darker tone that is what would happen. A more shonen series would be enough with the temple fusion.
-
! I'm worried they brought back Bismuth just to be taken out by the Diamonds.
-
! I'm worried they brought back Bismuth just to be taken out by the Diamonds.
! I thought she was brought back cause she's cool. They were down a person from Lapis leaving. Plus when the diamonds come back they'll need weapons.
-
So, what're the odds on Garnet having a new design when this is done?
Also,we're now on day five and haven't really gotten any of the stuff that was in the CN promo. Is that all happening in the episode tonight or did they just sort of include stuff from the next block that they won't be airing for like 4 months?
-
The megaleak had ammycopter and cowboy rubebop.
-

Losing lapus doesn't really have them down a person because she was never counted as one of them in the first place, as far as crisis resolution goes.

That would be nice. She's the only one that hasn't changed I think.

I guess. Still then they are already shorthanded.
-
Now that I think about it, combatwise on the diamonds we have only seen:
Corruption beam
"Insect poofing" the Circons
And the combat scene from "The Answer"But Saphire said that in the answer, in the future that she originally saw, rose was overwhelmed and the rebelion crushed, there and then.
-

Well, tonight's episode is half an hour long (i.e. two episodes) so…hopefully the former?
-
That would be nice. She's the only one that hasn't changed I think.
Nope, they all changed before the second opening. She changed up the first time we saw her defuse and got the Stronger than You song. Colors went more purple and she got a bit more symetrical.
Pearly changed her shorts colors and got rid of the hard to animate transperant skirt… while Amethyst has changed a couple times now.

Oh nice. The changes on Garnet are so subtle I didn't realize she changed.
-
Have they even used their weapons since Bismuth upgraded them? I can't recall ever seeing Garnet's gauntlet spikes since that one ep.

We're getting new episodes in September, specifically a new story arc, which might just mean another steven bomb
Though the picture with the link is a super spoiler so that might be what was accidentally in the podcast. Since it's linked to leaks so I wont link the link here

Dang…. that was a great episode.
! Ruby and Sapphire's wedding was adorable. I got a good laugh when Peridot was tossing the flowers. Now, I'm actually curious what's going happend in the story now with both Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond are now on Earth. I'm happy that Season 6 is pretty much confirmed now.
-
! I guess this confirms psychic powers are a Diamond power. Preview proves this is definitely end game.
-
! -As expected, the title had a double meaning. Ruby and Sapphire are reunited and Blue and Yellow Diamond are reunited with Pink.
! -Interesting design for Garnet. Hard to imagine to imagine that that's going to be her new permanent design though.
! -Please be back to stay, Lapis Lazuli!
! -That was great. Now can you please, please, PLEASE give us White Diamond?! -
! Lapis and Peridot are now primed for a redesign with the Crystal Gem star!
-
! It's wedding crashers but with rock aliens, and demi gods!
! That was a beautiful special, it never lagged at any point, everything flowed perfectly and we also dealt with two of the most dangerous antagonists. But strangely enough white is nowhere to be seen, it really makes you question. -
CN I never expected anything from you, in fact I may have let me down more times than the Vikings, but pleaaaaaaase give Steven Universe a sixth season.
WHAT A JOLLY GOOD SHOW! -
Nitpick:
! Why did they come alone, even without their pearls? They were kind of close of poofing Blue, at least.
-
! Re: Lapis versus Blue Diamond
-
! Lapis has become dark/water, inmune to psychic. Still weak to electric.
-

This has got to be a top 5 episode
! I don't think they were that close to being poofed. On another note steven being revealed as pink diamond kind of gives reason for some of the hits he's survived, we already knew he was part gem but now he can essentially take things like a barn to the face or something.
! Also for the one thing I'm not sure if I liked… did anyone else feel the lapis thing was resolved a little too quickly? I felt if there was one more step it would have seemed better but with all she struggled it seemed like a pretty big heel turn. But I guess maybe her fear for steven and the others outweighed her personal fear. -
