Steven Universe

!

The peridot part is awesome, but it kind of messes up the point of the song
-
I just noticed that Garnet's outfit changed slightly, that's an interesting touch.
-
Huh. So it did. Colors flopped around, different shoulder pads, and different pantline split. Neat.
-
Yeah, they also changed Pearl's costume when her body was destroyed in Steven the Sword Fighter.
I dig the new design. The even color split on her legs sells the fact that she's a fusion better.
-
Talking to a friend today and he was saying there are no male gems apart from Steven. I thought Ruby was a male, no? Minor, but just curious what others thought.

All the gems are canon female. Never stated in the show, but Rebecca Sugar's mentioned it.
-
i thought something was "off" with garnet. I actually like the former version better.

Within the canon of the show the Gems are like Digimon they are genderless by nature, one of the story writers said there's a 50-50 shot of a gem being refered to as a he or she, but out of the Crystal Gems they are female. For the most part the trend is that all gems have female elements in their designs and female-like voice. So its kind of easier just to say they are all females.

Fair enough, thank you.

So, Greg mated with a rock?

The pioneers used to ride those babies for miles.

"Steven, your gem is like your asshole. You don't go showing it to everyone!" - Pearl, 2015
-
-
Tbh we don't know yet how gems reproduce. I think RS or Ian mentioned that that would be answered later in the show
-
Here is one of the creators explaining it on Tumblr:
In the world of the show, Gems are an alien species that don’t have a gender binary. They are all the same. (This is very common in fiction. Think of alien species like the Namekians in Dragon Ball.)
Steven on the other hand was created by mixing human and gem DNA so he’s a completely new kind of being. He is the only gem to be born thru biological reproductive means(Rose shapeshifted a womb for him to be born from). In Earth terms, he identifies as male so the Crystal Gems have no problem using he/him pronouns with him. (Jasper, who has no concept of this, refers to Steven as if he is Rose)
This is similar to how all Smurfs were “male” before Smurfette was created by Gargamel.
That said, Gems have the ability to take on gendered forms if they choose to. You’ve seen Amethyst do this. The same person also said this earlier:
In the world of the show, Gems are an alien species that use she/her pronouns for each other
I think it's really cool that the show creators answer the questions from the fans so actively, there's a lot of cool details I've found by going through their Tumblr accounts. Apparently even if the gems are not organic, they can still shapeshift functional reproductive organs (though maybe this was the first time it happened with Rose). I love how the creators have paid attention to even all kinds of biological details about the gems.
-
Then Rose definitely wanted to have Steven then, it wasn't just a happy accident sort of thing.
-
Rose shapeshifted a womb for him to be born from
That sounds incredibly painful.
-
@Cyan:
That sounds incredibly painful.
Well, women kinda do that on a monthly basis, so, yep.
-
Wow. Rose shapeshifted an entire reproductive system.
That's kinda weird.
-
Rose Quartz sounds like more and more of a bad-ass the more we learn about her.
Growing your own womb so you can have a child. That's kind of amazing.
-
Hmm, if Steven was born the good old fashioned way, was it still a "necessity" for Rose to stop existing for Steven to have life or did she simply expire through the "alien" childbirth?
-
well if steven has rose's gem, i imagine she couldnt exist without that
-
First time hearing of this. Probally the last time too since tumblr culture takes up about a grain of sand portion of a desert.
-
Plus its not catchy at all. "Gemtlemen" is not "Brony" by a long shot. Its hard to say and sounds really dumb.
Plus Steven doesn't have a history of being an awful girl's show like MLP does, so it really doesn't need the disclaimer.
-
With any luck the most publicity it will get is the fact that one of the writers mentioned it on Tumblr.
Simply being a "fan of Steven Universe" is fine with me. No need for a catchy moniker.
-
"Gemtlemen"? That's a remarkably stupid sounding name which is rendered even more pointless due to the fact the show isn't even aimed explicitly at a young female demographic that ends up being "universal" enough to appeal to a male audience.
Yeah, gemtlemen…yuck. That's sooo weird to say outloud.
-
Powerpuff Girls didn't need it either. Really, MLP is in a special case because it was literally designed to define a toy market for the female demographic.
-
Let's save "Jemtlemen" for when Jem and the Holograms gets relaunched in October.
-
I remember someone suggesting that it should be Stoners and that cracked me up.
-
-
So, uh…
! Has someone stablished how does the homeplanet is governed? I think Rose Quartz is like Royalty and Yellow Diamond is related to her. They are the only ones with two distinctions. Also, i'm still geeking out so hard on the season finale
-
! Nice episode, the lead on with the fake Connie getting Steven to say he liked the ending when you think it's gonna be that he likes Connie was good. Wonder why the room opened for him this time, though. Maybe 'cause he really cared about helping Connie get a new ending.
-
I love this.
! They are using what is essentially the holodeck to role-play and write fan-fiction. This show is written by nerds, for nerds and I couldn't be happier about that.

Heh @ "It's only Fan fictionnnnnn"
-
I liked that episode
and that's all I have to say.
-
Another really cute episode.
! I cannot believe that I've never come to the conclusion that Sour Cream and Onion are brothers before this episode.
-
Their dad must like Fish and chips
! dodges bullets
-
Buck was a quoting gold mine in this episode.
"Aren't you like, your own mom or something?". GOLD -
Yes.
! Fun episode, I love seeing Steven hanging out with the three older dudes, and I believe there's another episode coming up where Steven does something with Buck. Looking forward to it.
! Also, can't believe there's no breaking between seasons 1 and 2. I figured they may have to catch up a few episodes, but damn, I'm glad we didn't skip a beat. -
"Just let him be a DJ!"
Sour Cream is the best

…will i be destroyed if i say I am actually looking forward to the Uncle Grandpa crossover?

I am looking forward to it too. But I've only seen 2 or 3 Uncle Grandpa shorts, and wasn't a fan. I didn't hate it and can apperciate it being there, but its not something I'd go out to watch. I'm just very curious of how this going to go down and if its gonna be cannon. I'm assuming no, but we'll see!
This is really funny actually. Also Screen shots show that the episode time-line wise takes place before Jailbreak, due to Garnet's old design.
-
Well it is airing a day after April Fools, so I'm going to argue not canon. We'll see how this turns out.
-
god no. that looks dumb. i hope wagomu is right
