Been breeding Miltanks, and have gotten two near perfect (all except SpA) ones with scrappy. I'm aiming for a thick fat one, so does anyone want a scrappy one?
Also, who was it who was breeding speed boost Venipedes?

Wait, by 4/5IV you mean four to five perfect IV stats? How long have you been breeding to get to those things? o.O
Or is there some new (or old) breeding mechanic that lets you manipulate the likelihood of getting good IVs that I'm just not aware of?
Just asking because, honestly, I'm soon through my first gameplay and I would love nothing more than to actually go competitive for real after this. It's always been a distant pipedream and a silly online simulator hobby, but I'm thinking it would be way more fun to do with actual DS Pokémon.

Apperently Destiny knot passes 5 iv from the parent/s (only works one at the time, so even if you have both parents with it only one works).
And theres also some RNG thing that helps too, but i don't know how it works, but CCC does know how it works.
Edit: the Man that gived us super training.

Haven't been looking at this thread too much despite having the game (as I'm sort of truckin' along and still haven't finished it yet) but…
I caught a shiny, and I had to say it somewhere. ;-;
Sorry I always tell myself "I'll add this one in a bit" but I forget and I'm kinda picky adding people since i have like a shitload now but since im in a good mood, Ill add you.
Thanks!! so which one do you want? nickname?
Thanks. . back to breeding dog sized spiders!!!
Due to circumstances I won't tell I had to start again from the get go. But it doesn't bother me, because now I can make a whole new team, more varied and dynamic.

My summary:
@CCC:
Oh. It doesn't actually help with getting all 6. Still need to get 1 in 31 odds-level lucky for that. Mostly it's good for creating more 5 IV things.
1. Put 2 Magikarp with completely different IVs in every stat in daycare. Make sure destiny knot is on one of them.
2. Save immediately (before daycare man outside turns around).
3. Get egg, hatch egg, check IVs.
4. Determine which IV came from which parent, and which one is random. (ex: FFMMFX, where F = female, M = male, X = random)
5. Reset game.
6. Take out Magikarps. Put in pokemon you actually want to breed (with destiny knot, of course).
7. The first egg you get from this point on (no matter what the parents are) will have the same FMX pattern as your last Magikarp baby. Ditto just serves as a substitute for whatever the other parent is not. The random stat will also have the same value as that one did.So basically, if you've got a box full of mixed gender 3 IV mons, you can get a 5 IV one after just one egg by picking the right combination (after getting the Magikarps to place the random stat in the slot you don't care about. You could also wait for the random stat to be 31…).
If you don't like the FMX spread from a given Magikarp baby, just save, and try again.

This was basically all I needed. All praise be to GameFreak for making this so easy. And thanks for explaining it, I could have done the research myself but it was far easier this way~
Now then, who here has friend safari Dittos? :P
Just kidding, I still need to beat the league and all. Only just got my Xerneas.
Keep in mind that number 3 is a different/additional thing. The 4chan info is really all you need for normal breeding, but there are specific circumstances when implementing the strategy found in 3 will make things quicker.
Apparently I picked the wrong nature, I aimed for +sp atk but the recommended is speed.
Eh, I'll make it work

It's a hack/glitch, and as such illegal for actual competitive use. Just like the old Gen 2 Pokémon/Item copying mechanic. I'm steering clear of all such nonsense.
You know, all this time I thought that change came from Gen 4. Weird…
Also, which Gen 6 Fairy-type Pokemon would you guys recommend for my new team? At the moment I'm leaning toward Sylveon, but any input is appreciated.
Togekiss isn't so bad. With his ability air slash has a 40% flinch rate which gets pretty annoying, and he knows aura sphere which is pretty useful.
I added you. I have a japanese protean frogadier (actually a japanese froakie that I evolved).
If you're interested, I'll trade it for one of your togepis.
I just got a japanese protean froakie, thanks though :p
hm do you have a kabuto or heracross for a togepi?

That's an incomplete moveset, though. You will want to add Thunder Wave in there just for the super annoying Paraflinch combination that renders pretty much everything that can't outspeed or outstall Togekiss useless. It's one of the most annoying tactics ever known to competitive battling, lol.
wow, you guys are so technical. No wonder i lose so much. My battle plan consists of "Hit it unitl it dies", "Repeat if necessary" and "Cry if i lose".

It is by no means a hack, or glitch, or illegal. It's simply an abuse of the RNG, allowing you to figure out which stats will be passed down from which parents with Destiny Knot.
Oh gosh, oh gosh, I just caught a shiny Geodude. That's my first one since Crystal.
And it appeared in a horde battle too. Man, I was sooooo scared that it would have used self-destruct right in front of my face.

Basically the same, though. It doesn't break anything, but it's an abuse nevertheless. Until Nintendo says it's okay to use, I'm staying away.
You crazy, bird.
Not that it's that big of a deal, since it is super easy already. It just takes a couple more hours the "normal" way.
Well, it's only a couple of tests to find out which IVs something passes down. I'm so used to breeding at this point that it'll be a breeze.
I tried chaining in grass, and failed miserably. Instead, what are the best chain fishing spots?
Edit: the Man that gived us super training.
Pokemon training has been in the Armstrong line for generations!

Geodude don't have a tendency to self-destruct; you're thinking of Graveler.

Any spot that's enclosed on three sides (which you close off entirely with your body) will produce endless Pokemon…
Geodude don't have a tendency to self-destruct; you're thinking of Graveler.
They used to. Haven't done that in a couple of generations, I don't think, but you never know with the movepool changes and everything. Plus, I accidentally killed off the preceding Aron horde that I was trying to catch one off, so I was already nervous. I'm still jogging about in Terminus Cave trying to find another one of those. MegAggron would be the best physical wall for the team. ;_;
I'd use Avalugg because I've absolutely fallen in love with what it looks like, but its Sp.Def combined with its defensive typing is so abysmal that it's not really usable.
…It's nothing that Nintendo or anyone official could possibly detect. All you're doing is soft-resetting.

You only know it if you use the exploit, otherwise the inheritance is random. Go regular for a while, when you are knee deep in 2-4 iv babies, consider it. It just makes it so that you get 5 IVs in 3 generations.
@CCC:

I know. My real problem is a guilty conscience. :P
Geodudes do have magnitude, and a ground weakness.

Dude, you just Aura Sphere or Fire Blast/Flamehtrow it once or twice and it's finished. It has no business whatsoever going against a Lucario, Delphox, or a Salamence, for instance, which is what half of my current party consists of.

Heh, I know, the shiny one was using that all the time while all the others just tried to Rock Blast my Hawlucha to death. To no avail. I got incredibly lucky there. :P

Hard to do when he spams def and sp.def raisers the whole time
So I had to make a mono water type team for a friend, another friend wanted all eevee evolutions, so I had a busy weekend lol. Fortunately after I got a poliwag bred out I had access to the entire group. The eevees fortunately worked with my perfect excadrill.
My real competitive team is almost done and on paper I'm pleased as peaches with it lol
I know its all about opinions and stuff, but what do you think about this
! Now that X and Y have been out for about a month, and I've already played the shit out of them, I have a review ready.
! From a non-competitive standpoint, these games ruled. The transition into 3D was done flawlessly, the game itself was very fun, and even though it lacked postgame content, its still fun battling/trading with friends.
! From a competitive standpoint:
! The games are terrible. Fairy was a completely unnecessary type that fucked over a lot of good Pokemon. Dragons completely trample over fairy types, ironically. All adding the type really did was screw over dark and fighting types, which didn't need to happen. This generation, steel also lost its ghost and dark resistance. This completely fucked over metagross and bronzong, and a few other Pokemon.
! And now, we have the ghost type, which is waaaaay too overpowered. It hits every type in the game except 2 for neutral or SE damage. Literally all you have to do is use a fighting move and a ghost move and you can hit every single Pokemon in the game for at least neutral damage.
! It wasn't all bad though, they made IV breeding and EV training much easier.
! Non competitively, the game is 9.5/10
! Competitively: 4/10
! They screwed up bad in this department, I'm afraid.
A friend of mine wrote this, and it kinda partly killed urge I had to play Y as fast I get the money.

He has no idea what he's talking about because Metagross is still the best competitive Pokémon ever.
I wouldn't say fairy's get tramped by dragons, they get a free switch in if a dragon move is used, and unless that dragon has at least 1 DD up, it can't one hit ko any fairies. Togekiss outright walls most of them. To be honest if they made fairy super effective/resistant to ghost, it fix the whole thing. I have no idea why fairy is super effective against fighting, that kind was a "what" moment for me.
Also, Ghosts are as easy to shut down as ever. Gengar is the only one who is going to make a splash still, and that is only because his typing plus his stats make him an amazing special sweeper in general. Mega Gengar is only a small boost to keep him relevant with the rise of a couple new threats. Everything else will be consigned to the depths of competitive irrelevance. Aegislash is too much of a bad gimmick to be actually useful.

What do you think about it?
Complaining about certain pokemon being fucked over seems like shortsighted whining. In the sense that every generation changes things up a bit. Gen II "fucked over" a ton of Gen I beasts that used to take advantage of Special not being split. Introducing abilities automatically propelled some mons into the stardom while leaving otherwise decent ones in the dust. Stealth Rock made so many pokemon completely nonviable competitively. That's how it goes. The games evolve, and GF does their best to balance things every time.
Fairy brought a bit of badly-needed balance to dragons (gen VI fairies do indeed suck, but the old ones that got the type added on are almost certainly not worse off in their fight against dragons for it), and gave steel and poison a bit more offensive usefulness.
Thanks a lot guys.
! You don't know how much this helped.
I am one of those people who are always in doubt, and the moment someone criticize something that I want badly I start reconsidering everything a million time and usually end up not getting it
so yeah, it helped.
I will hopefully join the party sometime in the upcoming week or the one after it.
I don't understand how you can call a pokemon who has 150/150 defenses at a moments notice with a potential attack drop a gimmick? That's not a gimmick, thats a threat lol
Those complaints just sound like someone who doesn't want to adapt to a new metagame.
@Toraish:
Sylveon's Wish-passing and SubCM sets say hi.
I just dislike monotypes :P
His point about ghosts being overpowered is right on the mark, and fighting really didn't need anymore disadvantages, but they certainly aren't crippling/breaking the metagame in any regard. I still do pretty well with a lead champ lol
I wouldn't say ghosts are Overpowered. More like Gengar and Aegislash are overpowered but they have their checks and counters as well. Fighting was also one of the big offensive attacking types last gen as well.
Is there a surefire method of getting one ability onto a child? My female Miltank is breeding with my Ampharos and she has thick fat, but of all perfect (bar SpA) pokemon she's given have scrappy instead.
Any spot that's enclosed on three sides (which you close off entirely with your body) will produce endless Pokemon…
Thing is, I can't find a spot like that.
That feeling when you finally get that freakin' shiny after about 750 eggs …
@Anr:

It has to exchange those defenses for its attacks if it wants to do anything else than just sit there and be a pain in the ass. Yes, it's probably going to leave a dent in your fighting force if it does go for an offensive move, but you just send in something that takes advantage of its minimal defenses while it's hovering around in Blade forme and revenge kill it.
And you don't really counter it with physical moves anyway, you will almost always use a Special Sweeper to get rid of it. Something like a Greninja or a Dark Pulse Ttar. Hydreigon is also a huge pain in the ass, as are Talonflame and Blaziken who will outrun King's Shield in most cases despite facing the potential threat. The more people play against it, the more predictable it becomes. And it's fairly easy to combat. I'm with most of Smogon's OU-people who say that it will be incredibly popular in the beginning but will fall out of grace quickly when people start realizing that it's not really as perfect as it seems.
In fact, it seems right now that the most effective way to run Aegislash at all is to get a mixed set without King's Shield and just overpower everything to break down the opposing team's walls.

All I can say is that is an awful review from a person who isn't completely aware of the aspects that he's crying about. Rest assured this game is great all around. Biggest complaint is that there isn't much to do post Elite 4.

Is just horrifying, really.

Its also possible to get four zongooses and a seviper.
In both cases I always try to race and save the odd monster. I figure if it survives its a tough bro that I've bonded with and it deserves a place on my team.
I've always liked both zangoose AND seviper, but never really played with them, they always show up too late in the game for me to try, (or they're version exclusives) and the monotype and overall movepool is a turn off. (Though one gen I DID breed them to pass along a move of some sort to something… that had to be awkward.)
