When an alien attack threatens the Earth's existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace.
has a big o + neon genesis evangelion feel to it with GlaDOS in the mix

SQUEEE!
My body is ready
This is the closest we've gotten to Gundams in Hollywood. Please don't disappoint. Glad to see Idris is being put in good movies.
I just saw Big O rocket-punching Godzilla in the face. That right there's worth the price of admission alone.
Fuck the Inception horn.

Ah… The Inception horn + the Promethus Screech noise. Two new must haves for today's Blockbuster Trailers. Wonder how long it will last...
Really hope this doesn't suck. It has a lot of potential from what I'm seeing.
I need this movie like WHOAH!!
After re watching the trailer, I think that the most important component of this movie wont be the plot or the story but will be the cast. This movie needs to have a colorful set of characters especially seeing as how it's the characters that power the machines from the inside. If this movie just includes the typical:
"I'm the smart guy. He's tough guy. He's the silly guy. She's the hard to get gal. He's the leader"
then it will most likely do sub par, because we as the audience would never be able to appreciate anything past the action due to lack of emotional attachment. It's not that cool, high budget action is wrong… but that's what Transformers is for. I don't want Pacific Rm to be another Transformers. I have high hopes that the action will just be one of the many things we will love from this movie seeing as how del Toro managed to get the audience to look beyond action in his Hellboy series.
Guillerrmo Del Toro! He's got this on top of Mama! Should be a good year. I love his stuff. Maybe not love Hell Boy, but it wasn't completely crap. But his other movies. Yes very much.
I'm excited for this.
My mind sploded
After re-watching the trailer. The robots sorta remind me of those NFL CGI robots on Sunday and Monday night games.
Ellen McClain is the AI…
...GLaDOS is in this movie. I must see it.
I am going to watch the shit out of this.
Don't care much for giant robots and monsters but Del Toro has never made a bad movie. In fact he's made some of my favorites. For that I'll see this.
Neon Genesis Evangelion + Guilliermo del Toro
I NEED THIS. NOW.
Giant robots punching Cloverfield-like monsters in the face…GLaDOS voice... Plugsuits, (not really but close enough)...
Best movie ever! (I want different monsters! Please please!! Like angels!)
Hmm, Rinko Kikuchi. Haven't seen her in anything since Babel. And Ron Perlman!
Normally I'd be skeptical about another giant robot movie, but with Guillermo del Toro manning this, it could be good.

WonderCon recap

and video from the panel.
Have you guys seen the stats on the robots? Austrailia is way over powered. I'm wondering why Japan is the weakest. Seems like they should be much better bots on their end lol. I'd post the poster but I found it on Imgur and I'm at work so I can't view the page.
Also America…Gipsy Danger? What sort of name is that? China has the coolest name.

They probably put Japan as the weakest just to defy expectations. It's likely each country has more than one robot though right? So Japan might have stronger ones.
Also Gypsy danger sounds Terrific I get chills everytime the computer says it.
Hmm, Luther, Charlie, Jax and Naoko in one movie fighting aliens in giant robots sounds good
Did Gypsy Danger just club a Kaiju with an oil tanker ship?A GODDAMN OIL TANKER SHIP?!
Blockbuster of the year.I don't care what anyone says.
I'm horrible late to watching the trailers for this but
Motherfucking blue and orange. I am so sick of it.
Once seen, cannot be unseen.
We have to all fight this 3D plague together! Everyone, boycott the 3D showings.
This needs to be empasized.

Are you serious? I hate 3D. Often times it gives me a horrible headache, but this is the kind of movie that I would take that chance for.

I pray to every God there is that this movie won't suck.
Oh I'm an idiot, I thought this movie had already released some time ago.
Judging from mech design alone:
Australia > USA > Japan > China > Russia
Austrailia is way over powered.
The internet managed to rationalize that by proposing that Strike Eureka was infact developed to be able to fend off Australian wildlife.

I….Okay yeah, makes sense.
Design your own Jaeger.

I laughed at this - it's so true.
Also I am calling it now - The Aussie will be the first to be supposidly smashed - but come back in the 3rd act to help win it.
I am loving this movie.
Few more new scenes on this one.
Pacific Rim Elbow Rocket Clip It's coming in two weeks!
Russian mech is the slowest…
But at least it located in my hometown. I shall laugh my head off, if it shown even briefly.
After slightly dissapointing WWZ and slow MoS, this movie should be best one.
This has been a very disappointing year for blockbusters. Only one that was good was IM3, let's hope Pacific Rim won't disappoint.
I'm usually strongly against seeing movies in 3D, but I have a feeling seeing this one in 3D would be worth it. I've been excited to see this movie for since December.
Here's a cool promo site for the movie:
http://www.panpacificdefense.com/#
It gives a more in-depth view on the story. Some of the stuff could be considered spoilers.
! Apparently there were a lot more Jaegers. It may explain more things Japan's Jaeger. :ninja:
New trailer with a lot of new footage. Finally you see a bit more of the characters. Though most of it is still Jaegers battling monsters.
I'm so excited for this movie!
Also Hideo Kojima really seems to like it:

The reviews sound really good so far. Too bad i have to wait until next week to see it.
Will I finally be able to watch a blockbuster that doesn't suck? I really, really hope so. 3 weeks to go.
Meh, movies like these usually make me want the Giant Monsters to win…........just for the hell of it.
Seeing this tonight - so excited.
Might even have a hand at writing up a review afterwards if anyone is interested.
Just got out of the Cinema under an hour ago.
This movie is by far and away worth it on so many levels - if you are going to see this to watch giant alien beasts fight giant robots you will get your moneys worth and then some. If you're concerned about plot/script/acting/drama then yes there are some issues but nothing that detracts from the movie greatly in any way.
Some moments in the movie seem to lack a bit of soul or heart in them, but I think that is more due to this movie being the first major Hollywood release of its kind. Almost seems like they are hovering around just having fun with the role but no one is brave enough to just jump in and let loose … other then Ron Perlman of course but name me a role he hasn't. If you're paranoid about the movie being a tribute to Neon Genesis Evolution then allow me to use this image to illustrate a comparison.
Pacific Rim is more the Full Metal Alchemist attitude - they try and bring in Drama and tragic backstories but they don't dwell on them and have people moping around with a sad. Even in the middle where issues come up with the interfacing they are resolved pretty damn quick with the premise of we have monsters to fight never being pushed to the backburner.
Although I am not sure if the one I watched had issues with the sound but some scenes seemed a little muffled which made listening to people a little hard - and the Aussies that pilot Striker Eureka lay the accent on a little more thicker then what is common here. Thankfully they are adopting the more awesome Aussie stereotypes/troupes but if you have issues understanding them it's not just you I am Aussie and I had trouble understanding them at times (again could have been sound at my session).
The other three Jaegers have some great scenes too - but I have a feeling a lot more of them ended up on the cutting room floor due to time constraints and not from a lack of wanting to show them off.
If you're on the fence about it I would say see it anyways - the presentation is perfect for a large screen I feel a lot of the ummph moments would be less fulfilling on a small screen.
THIS MOVIE WAS REALLY GOOD GO SEE PACIFIC RIM GO SEE PACIFIC RIM GO SEE PACIFIC RIM
It is exactly what I wanted it to be and even though it had some hollywood filter on it it came out SO DAMN STRONG OKAY
It has like eight to ten characters in it, about six get a ton of screentime, they all have lots of personality and charm, EVEN THE BIT SIDE CHARACTERS, and the kaiju all have great designs and fighting styles and there's a lot of cool surprises in the combat.
I can imagine some people wouldn't like how the visuals are kind of grungy and brown but don't let it fool you there's a lot of charm ok????
JUST GO SEE THIS MOVIE AND REWARD IT FOR DOING WHAT IT DOES IDK FUCK OKAY
And in case that raised your expectations beyond reality, yes there's a superficially boring white action hero generic main character and it has a generic ending but it does so much right okay i just want you guys to know
This was great. Just pure enjoyment. I think if other people had tried to make a movie like this it would have turned out shitty but Del Toro has fun with it and all the characters and never lets the focus ever really be about anything other than giant monsters VS giant mechs and it's entertaining throughout. Best movie i've seen all summer.
