Just read the prequel and the first arc of the series (The Japan-America mission). Holy shit, is this series good. The art, the characters, the story, uuunghhh. If it keeps up this level of quality, I'm really going to be happy. This is seinen done right, completely different dimension from a pos like Gantz.

it's a pretty good series, yeah
at the core it's a little boring just because the vast majority of the chapters are "people beating the shit out of each other"
there can only be so much of that before it gets dull (which is why this is much better for volume-length consumption; it was rough getting through the first 30 chapters in one go a few months ago)but I am really intrigued by this whole thing with the pyramids
the second I found out that the pyramids were not build by the roaches, I knew this series was going to have a much larger scope to it than I'd originally thought
hopefully when the humans encounter whatever lifeform built the pyramids, it isn't just going to be another put yer dukes up sort of thing. would be nice if there was some sort of communication (that perhaps ends in hostility, w/e) in which the author is allowed to voice some sort of message on our role in the universe (sort of akin to Prometheus, minus the fact that this was the premise of the movie and then it just ends with "Want to see the movie you paid for? Good! Catch the sequel! In the mean time, watch this xenomorph fight voldemort!") -
My biggest complaint so far is that some interesting characters die too quick (like the Israeli guy and the Russian chick). But on the other hand, it really builds up the Roaches as a lethal force to be reckoned with and the author is surprisingly good at giving the characters a relatively good amount of character development and action before they kick it. It's a balance that the author was good in maintaining for the first arc at least.

I think that the fact that some characters are presented as total badasses and got themselves killed in the next page is somehow cool, although sometimes you want to see more of them.
I have read up until chapter 41 and I love the series and most of the main characters. I really loved Adolf, his combat was probably the best in all the series until now in my humble opinion.
To say something negative, I don’t like that the women in the crew are always bad for fighting, and they got themselves killed the firsts, doing close to nothing useful. Also, too many main characters have/had a “close female friend which could be something else” XDDD very japanese-like.
I love Michelle, which is the exception, but I disliked the “roach ooze” moment that in conclusion almost got her killed. I would have preferred that same moment with a guy, and let Michelle do something cool without fan service involved. -

Shingeki's killing it yeah, but as magazine as a whole, Weekly Young Jump enjoys a far higher readership count than Bessatsu Magazine.
I myself find YJ one of the most enjoyable line-up out there, with TerraFormers, Kingdom, Usokui, Real, Destroy & Revolution, and Tokyo Ghoul. I'm not a fan of them, but Liar Games, 81 Diver, and Rozen Maiden are all popular as well. It's one of those few magazines that you can pretty much enjoy the whole content.
(Gantz was one of the stronger titles, although personally it turned into crap. It was sorta the Bleach of the magazine - as in, not as good as most titles, but enjoys a higher sales)Bessatu Magazine has far to go, although Koudansha is aggressively reaching out to build it.
The directive content of the two magazines are starting to get really similar. TF vs Shingeki, Kingdom vs Arslan, etc. -

Zero is a prequel chapter.. I started the series with it and it acts fine as a chapter one since you don't really need any knowledge from the main story to enjoy it. It gives you some interesting details that offers some perspective of what happened before the main series

I'm just eagerly waiting for the amazing Pistol Shrimp to be used.

About Mantis Shrimps breaking glass,how do you explain this?

From what I read, it takes a full grown(around 8 inches) peacock mantis shrimp to be capable of breaking the glass, and it occurs when they mistake the bottom of the glass for rock, and proceed to repeatedly bang at it, in an attempt to dig.
I read this right after I read the chapter involving the shrimp, so I'll have to find the source again.
Edit: Also, they cannot smash an acrylic fish tank. I'm no fish tank expert, so I wouldn't be able to tell between a glass tank and an acrylic on sight.

Likely Oni-yanma, a massive dragonfly native to Japan.
They're fast, ferocious, and said to even capture and eat hornets mid-air.Very powerful bug.
