Apparently Ubisoft is working on a new next gen online rpg. It began production in October.

I like how they are saying "Triple A" for a new IP.
-
I really have grown to hate the phrase "triple A". It has come to mean more "lots of advertising" than "high budget installment in a beloved series".
Also, are there double A titles? single A titles? Is NSMBU a AAA title because it's Nintendo's biggest game of the year, a damn good entry in the 2D mario franchise, and will likely sell around 25 million copies? Or is it only single A because it didn't get a gigantic hype blitz sponsored by Mountain Dew and Doritos?

Why would anyone ever trust Ubisoft with an online-based game?
-
I just hope it's not Assassin's Creed Online. Although that could maybe take the series into a more interesting direction.
If they ARE looking at Assassin's Creed for inspiration then I'd like to see some sort of Pirate type game using the Naval system from Ass Creed 3. But I can't see Ubisoft doing that at all.

I very much suspect them using the term next gen wrong for mmo-rpgs.
I mean in that realm next gen has to mean getting away from that hotkey based combat system, getting away from shopping list tasks or else it's just ending up as what we already have with better graphics. For now I believe that the only studio really making a next gen mmo will be blizzard, because given their experience in the genre I feel like they have the highest chance of getting what next gen could be. That said blizzard has never really been good crunching out original ideas and has always been more about extreme refinement of existing ones.
I still think it may be easier to make a rts mmo or other genre mmo than a true next gen mmorpg. I mean for now we have planetside 2 as one of the first (or at least more refined) mmo shooters.

I think it just means that its coming for the PS4/3602/Wii U (delete as appropriate)

Yeah like said that's what I suspect. But I just don't know how that could succeed. At this point people should have gotten the memo that to be successful with a wow(or everquest or etc insert what strikes your fancy) style based mmo you have to be a really smart about the form of monetization and even that is getting harder as the markets are becoming saturated. You can't really succeed with pay to play even if you're trying to make a niche for yourself with that style (see secret worlds, tabula rasa, old republic, etc).
What the dumbest thing would be an assassins creed mmo rpg that like the elder scrolls mmo probably will totally miss the point why people like ac. Slap on that hotkey combat and we can already get ready to recycle this disaster.
