My 2 cents.
Colorspread
Man, is Oda on a spree? Three spreads in a row, and this one isn't any less epic. "New Age", indeed. The heart pirates fit so well into the Straw Hats, especially Sanji and Bepo in the back. No stretch to think that they would get along extremely well. One covers the ladies, while the other takes care of…female bears? Anyway, I'm trying to not interpret too much into the spread, but damn...Kinemon & Momo look like they are already part of the crew. Reminds me a lot of Jinbe's crewshot
!
The background characters are those I expect to show up in the near future. The last 2 Shichibukai Doflamingo & Jinbe (who never had a proper arc, not even in FI), the other Supernova alliance who might even try to get rid of Law and Luffy, and the Yonkou. While I don't expect all 4 to show up anytime soon, I'm confident that we will get an update on their situation. And god, look at Shanks. We knew that he is no saint after he indirectly killed that mountain bandit, but he looks fucking terrifying. I think this is the meanest look we have ever seen of him? Shit.
As for the two Ex-Admirals, both designs are awesome. Akainu's narrow eyes perfectly reflect his limited view of the world, while Aokiji looks like some sort of vigilante. He is still THE unknown quantity in the New World. Someone with the power of an Admiral/Yonkou, but with seemingly no connection to anyone? I can't wait.
Chapter It seems people got their cyborg-weapon battle. General Franky is ridiculous, but I didn't expect him to brush off the attacks that easily. Robin commented that the robot is basically just a joke, yet he gives 2 of Doflamingo's crew a run for their money. I'm confident that Franky can deal with both of them. Hell, he didn't even leave the cockpit.
Meanwhile Caesar is so fucked up that he is unable to move. I didn't expect anything less from a Gear 3 Haki-Bazooka, and I didn't expect anything less from CC's douchebaggery. He has NO connection to Smoker, he has ZERO reason to kill that guy. Law and Luffy fucked everything up, Smoker was just the stray dog who kissed the floor multiple times (at least that's all Caesar knows). Yet he decides to take him with him? I thought he was just a twisted scientist with the mindset "the end justifies the means", but this is just plain evil for no reason.
Switch to Luffy and the other Straw Hats. Again, Law is really a heartless bastard. At this point I would think that he simply has no crew left because he sacrificed them all during his rise to power. What the fuck is wrong with him suggesting to leave people behind all the time? Of course they are not his crewmembers, but this is still questionable considering the alliance. Yet Luffy shows why he managed to resist my "I don't like protagonists" sickness all these years. The switch from "fuck you I don't go without my friends" to this
! is almost tear-jerking.
The chapter ends with Monet agreeing to sacrifice herself for Joker. Now it's obvious that Caesar will stop her unintentionally, but this says a lot about Doflamingo. She told Luffy that she acts the way she does because Joker would kill her if she fails, yet she would sacrifice herself willingly anyway? This tells me that Joker is so merciless that she prefers getting killed by poisonous gas when the alternative means being captured and tortured by Dofla.
All in all a very good chapter, and another fantastic colorspread. Oda is handing out early christmas presents left and right.
