You can see a series' genre if you go to it's profile.
I don't get why this is that much of an issue unless you read every single series on any given manga site :P

Why don’t you use http://www.mangaupdates.com/releases.html ?
It tracks all releases of all Manga being scanlated but doesn’t host them. So if you want to read the series you have to go to the scanlators site. Summary about the Manga plus links to the scanlation groups are also there. If you register you can make a reading list/wish to read and better track the Manga you read and if you want you can filter out genres you don’t like, like for example the erotic one.
