What's your favorite and least-favorite arc in the anime?

my favorite is Marineford. damn that is what got me obsessed with OP. at least until he got to fishmen island. those episodes were boring. but My least favorite… actually I hate it... is Skypia. Very pointless arc, imho.

Arabasta is definitely my favourite. Least favourite would have to be either Davy Back Fight (terrible villain, useless plot, dragged in the anime) or Buggy's arc. Early One Piece was pretty boring in general, but Buggy's arc takes the cake for the worst part of East Blue.
The anime handled FI & Marineford terribly too, but they still outclass Buggy & DBF.
I'll never understand the hate for Skypiea. Loved that arc.

If I could just have 2 characters, I'd put "+1" in response to this

Marineford is my favourite and the least I like is Skypia.
Better wipe that Aisa off your avatar.

My favorite arc in the anime is the Goat Island arc. I rewatch it every year. Least favorite is everything else. All I need is goat.

Sorry, but after reading this I just…
I hold nothing against the Goat Island arc. I actually enjoyed it more with the English dub…but to prefer it over everything else is kind of interesting.
-
The anime… My favorite arcs in the anime were Thriller Bark(2nd half), and Soabondy. Drum Kingdom was also nice. The way they animted those snow bunnies were so cool!
Least favorite. Foxy arc. It's actually one of my favorite arcs in the manga, but the anime handled most of it so piss poorly. Adding filler in-between it and totally screwing up Aokiji's sweet transition were beyond unforgivable to me. I also disliked Impel Down(another arc I loved in the manga). Mainly because that was the point where I dropped the anime.
-
I think Enies Lobby is my favorite, so many emotions. Davy Back is the worst, I thought it was filler for years. But now that I reread it in the manga I see it was a short fun mini-arc.

Very pointless arc, imho.

Thriller Bark was hilarious in the anime, even if it did drag on for quite a bit I still loved it. Hogbacks laugh and all the zombie gags, I can't wait for Funi to dub this part so I can get those dvds
-
I think Thriller Bark makes a great arc for a rewatch. What is especially good about it was the unusual combination of colors, shadows, lightning and such, it has a very different feeling compared to the rest of the series.
But my favorite portion of the anime would be from the beginning of Water 7 up to Robin's flashback in Enies lobby. Everything was handled perfectly here. -
my favorite small arc is saboady , my favorite major are is probably water 7 (not counting enies lobby)
my least favorite small arc is captain kuro, my least favorite big arc is fishman island.
-
My favorite arc is definitely the Davy Back fight, and I especially love the Funimation dub of it. I'll be really sad if we don't see Foxy in the New World! I also really love the Sabo/Ace/Luffy arc.
Least favorite arc is by far Thriller Bark. I love Brook, but damn–this seemed like it went on endlessly. When Moria didn't even die at the end I felt totally frustrated and disillusioned.

Davy Back Fight is so ANNOYING, I am currently watching it. I am getting so pissed, I am like why don't the SH pirates cheat also such a STUPID arc so far.

Marineford and Fishmen Island are complete abominations in the anime.
I didn't go to film school, but I'm sure in them they have courses where they teach people that, in order to make a good movie/video media, you have to avoid doing EVERY SINGLE THING Toei did in those arcs. You can show those arcs there and tell the students to avoid doing that, and whatever movie they'll make will be good.
Little example:
Let's say Luffy is face to face with, let's say villain A. The manga panel they'll adapt would be Luffy saying "I'm gonna kill you", and villain A answering "oh really". Here's how the anime will do it.
FIrst you start the episode with a 5 minutes recap. Then, you'll put the camera a hundred kilometers away from where Luffy is, and we'll have random dudes talking about shit no one cares about. Then there will be a scrolling to where Luffy is. With super cheap animation of course. Then, by the 9 minutes mark, we'll reach Luffy's spot.
Then, the camera will zoom on every single character present on the scene, especially the fodder and nameless people, all making dumb "extatic faces". Then we'll zoom on Luffy's face, then on his mouth, then the VA will speak as slowly as possible "I…aaaaammmm...goooooonnnnnaaa...killlll...youuuuuuu". The boom, zoom on everyone's shocked faces, and then half episode break.Back from the break, there'll be a recap of the whole first half of the episode, then again "I'm...gonna...kill...youuuu", then once again, the crowd. My God Toei loves crowds. 5 minutes of dialogue like: "OMG, did he just say he's gonna kill him?"..."He did, he totally did."..."By killing, you mean the action of taking someone else's life?"..."Wow, Monkey D. Luffy, the son of Dragon, and grandson of Garp the hero, the man from east blue, who came through reverse mountain and foiled Crocodile's plans and went against CP9...that man said he's gonna kill Villain A, the son of villain B and brother to villain C. Damn!"..."I hear he went to Skypiea too"..."Yeah, they sell some good dials there"..."I need to buy some dials to redecorate my living room"... etc etc.
Then zoom on villain A's face, and him making "ngkkgkgggkkkghhgghgkkkkk" noises for 2 minutes, then, flashback to every single time since episode 1 where Luffy said "I'm gonna kill you" to someone.
And to end the episode, a little echo through villain A's mind. "I'm gonna kill you...nna kill you...ill you...ouuuuuu..." And boom, episode ends. How to make a 20 minutes episode out of less than a manga panel, by Toei animation.
I swear to God, I am barely exaggerating.
Someone should teach Toei about a certain something called "show don't tell".Drum, G8 and Water 7 were enjoyable in anime though.

Anime-wise?
Favorite: Water 7, obviously.
Least: Fishmen Island. It was a bad arc to begin with; dragging it out only made it worse. -
favourite has to be marineford without most fillers, while least has to be fishman island!
-
Favorite: Water 7
Least favorite: Marineford onwards. I don't even dislike those arcs in the manga, my least favorite manga arc is Thriller Barque. -
Favorite arc (anime) : Drum (Music, voice acting, pace, no filler)
Least favorite arc (anime) : Marineford (Fishmen Island is still watchable)
-
It's a long time since I watched most arcs in the anime, so I can't really compare them to the more recent episodes, but I guess my favorite in the anime would be…Alabasta or Skypia I guess, I can't really say.
But if I remember correctly, the worst for me was the Davy Back Fight Arc. Adding filler is okay, but because of them the rules of the tournament didn't make sense anymore in the anime. And why did they have to do the encounter with Kuzan on another island? The weird "Foxy reappearance" filler would have worked just fine after the fight againts Aokiji imo.
-
I hated how long skypeia was. I loved all the other arc's really. Favorite would be Saibody(Spelling?)
-
Gotta say for a filler arc G-8 was pretty awesome, hell for the longest time I thought it was actual canon especially with how well they went from coming from Skypeia to G-8(Plus Condoriano, that shit gets me every time).
Favorite has to be Water 7/Enies Lobby the shift in tone was just marvelous also Thriller Bark.
Least Favorite:The Buggy arc, Fishman Island and bits of Impel down(for some reason the anime never made that arc serious for me, it all felt like a very long joke) -
Favorite arc (anime) : Jaya
Least favorite arc (anime) :I can't decide between Marineford and Fishman Island, the pacing was extremely awful in both of them.
-
Wow looks like from all these comments I'm gonna need to re-read all of OP again… only started reading after the 2 years skip cos of constant spoilers, I was watching anime only the whole time until those damn spoilers D:< mumble mumbleace and WB diemumble mumble gosh it would have caught me by surprise so much more if it wasn't for that :(

Considering how the name of that episode was "Portgas D Ace Dies", it wouldn't have been THAT much of a shocker.
(Still mad that Oda couldn't think of a better name for it.)

Hmm..I'm gonna have to agree with this. At least anime-wise. Fishman Island started off great, but did a nose dive half way through. Marineford was…Well Toei just sucks at large battle scenes and fills it with unnecessary exaggeration.
Aside from that..It's a four-way tie for my favourites (anime): Water 7/Post Enies Lobby, and Sabaody/Return to Sabaody.
-
My favorite arc is saboady loved everything about it also had really good animation, my least fav would have to be Marineford was nothing compared to the awesomeness of the manga.
-
I think The Fed pretty much has it down pat in terms of what's really badly presented in the show. The pacing just REALLY kills these stories. Impel Down was pretty awful in the show, as well. In the comic, it was pretty awesome. :(
Drum Island and Water 7 were pretty cool in the show though.
-
Favourite: Water 7
Least: Fishmen Island, so bad especially after the Strawhats arrive at the Plaza. I mean it they had a great entrance, but almost everything else was lackluster.
I guess the only thing I can give credit for near the end was the Big Mam's portrayal, and when Jinbei gave Luffy blood and all the flashbacks that occured then as well, and also when Luffy told Jinbei to do his crew. -
Favorite: Marineford
Least: Skypiea -
fav:marineford
least fav:fishman island -
Favorite: Water 7/Enies Lobby
Least Favorite: Fishman IslandThriller bark was my original choice, but atleast the SHs got Brooke from it. Also the ending of the arc was one of my all time favorite moments of the whole series…Fishman island has next to no redeeming qualities in my opinion.
-
Favorite: Marineford
Least favorite: Thriller bark -
Favorite: Jaya
Least Favorite: Toss-up between Marineford and Fishman IslandI would have dragged this out with an explanation, but Fed covered all of my opinions beautifully.
-
Favorite's probably Water 7 and Enies Lobby.
Least: Fishman IslandFishman Island dragged on for way too long (50 episodes I think)… And they made it look like Hody was almost on-par with Luffy, which is bad.
-
Favorite: Impel Down (Mainly for seeing Luffy fight along side with all these old and new characters)
Least Favorite: (I know I'll get some hate for this…) SkypieaI loved Enel so much, and he's in my top 3 favorite villians but the whole arc I just didn't really find too interesting
-
Although I love the main story, I also love arcs that aren't completely involved with the story.
Drum Kingdom, Skypiea, Davy Back Fight, and Thriller Bark are examples of these and I loved them because of the light-hearted adventurous theme of them.
-
Favourite = Skypeia
Least favourite = I'd say fishman island has now overtaken Enies Lobby for this honour -
Fishman Island arc was really boring in my opinion. It's basically an arc which introduces the Strawhat's powers, which was needed but could have been done quicker!
My favourites were probably Water 7, Impel Down and Whitebeard War arcs. They were amazing, especially Impel Down. The surprise I got when Luffy meets all his past enemies gave me goosebumps and when they helped Luffy escaped was just pure awesome.
(Not sure if Impel Down is an arc or not, oh wells)EDIT: I just remembered, my least favourite was actually Skypeia. It just felt amazingly long and boring. The battles were rubbish (hate that annoying fat angel guy), except for Enel vs Luffy.
-
Man this thread has been causing me some pain, it's hard to choose my fav arc because there are so many amazing ones but…..
Favorite: Thriller Bark
Least Favorite: Every Filler Arc and Filler episode for that matter
-
_**Favorite arc - Ofc , its Marineford :P The arc is legendary :D Its the best thing I have ever seen in any anime :3
And well , The arc I hate - None :P I love everything about OP.**_
-
Least Favorite: Marineford
Too much Oyaji! And Aceeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuu!
Favorite: Thriller Bark
Love Halloween themed things, and the animation was glorious.
-
Favorite: Water 7 & Ennies Lobby arcs
Least favorite: Davy Back fight arc (I hate that "PHEEEPHEPHEPHE" idiot)
