@MetaMario:
That's another thing that confuses me. Doflamingo's all about the age of smiles, that dreams are done**…...yet he wants to be Pirate King**, a personal dream for a handful of other characters? The only thing I can think of is that he wants the title in a ironic-mocking sense, and to get rid of the physical treasure of One Piece (if it is) to personally destroy the ambitions of people like Luffy, Blackbeard, etc.
Crazy I know…..but it's a real gray area.
I think the video above says why Doflo would be after the Pirate King title. Look at 1:09 "Use opposing ideas to your advantage and subdue them". I've tried to find a good translation online for the manga - the pages I found couldn't be trusted,(Batoto wasn't wortoing for me) they misstranslated some names and could have mistranslated that poart so I'm using the anime for now…
That statement could be taken as if he means to use the position of Pirate King to further his own goals, and have nothing to do with dreams or advanture.
@skrzmark:
According to this. http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Donquixote_Pirates It says Monet is deceased.
@1PceXperience:
I'm sure a lot of people here will tell you this:
Wikipedia isn't a credible source. Neither Oda nor Oda's editors run the One Piece wiki page. When Monet returns in the manga they will edit their wiki pages and pray no one noticed..
In fact.. I'm actually upset that they labelled her as deceased.
What a lot of people don't realize about the OP wikia is that anyone can edit it. So it leaves a looooooot of room for people to put their own opinions in. The mods try to limit it to facts, but they are not perfect ..and often biased themsleves.
I'll usse wikia to help find info like what chapter someone appeared in, then go to manga to confirm it. But I don't use wikia as a 'be all-end all' source of 100% true info, its not.
Its not the only source and not 100% accurate.
@grunk:
For what it's worth.. there is sort of a narrative allustion to Ace if Monet is dead:
- "Ice" is colder then "snow", like "magma" is hotter then "fire"
- They showed a "hole through the chest"
I know the situations are different, but Oda does like to use little cues like that.
Also, Doflamingo's higher connections are strange now that it's revealed that he wants to be PK, since he wanted an end to the era of dreams and wanted the pirate world to be more harsh and chaotic.. dare I say that the Marine higher ups sort of benefit from having a world with pirates? It keeps the populace scared and keeps them in the WGs pocket.. and a harsher and more dangerous pirate world would give the WG more control.. if there were more no pirates or if all pirates were like Luffy.. it could endanger their dichotomy as it allows the WG to keep focusing on strength which while it allows them to fight pirates it also allows them to keep down groups like the Revolutionaries.
