Really dope cover art there, especially love the blade shine on Atomic's face.
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...

Volume 21 clearly gonna add another group shot to it.

but to the left and not the right to avoid putting saitama in the shot

Below is another option; those look like Tatsumaki's hands next to the volume number.

Wow, that means at least 8 if not 10 part mosaic.

I haven't really been paying attention to the "decreased anime quality" of season 2 talk because I thought it was an overreaction at first, but yeah, I am disappointed. Watched this one scene on youtube where Cabou(?) or whatever his name is, is walking down the street after his fight with dog-man, and encounters King on a bike with Saitama by his side. And boy, that scene went by quickly. It did not capture at all what I had in mind. Did not capture the imaginary threatening aura that everyone sees in King.
Meh.

And so the nightmare begins.

Wait until they get to his actual background..
edit: Holy shit, those comments.
-
Blackluster sounds uncool. What was wrong with Darkshine?
-
It's weird because he's not even black.
-
-
Darkshine isn't even black? OPM has quite a few problematic characters. They're minor enough at least they aren't around often. Still sucks though.
-
There's blurred out porn on that site, might not be the best place to post this, just saying
-
! Darkshine is just artificially tanned like a bodybuilder but taken to the extreme for the sake of parody.
-
Reminder that this is not the original webcomic thread.
-
Hmm…has anyone yet raised the opinion that tan spray is just a mild form of blackface?

Not unless
spoilers underneath from the webcomic
! Someone tans enough to somehow go from being an asian man to a black one, including facial features

(I don't know if it's a spoiler, but just to be sure)
! I knew this, yes, but I really don't understand why One went this way… couldn't he simply make a black character? i mean, his facial features are even stereotypically obvious, especially in the official manga. It's like he wanted to make a black character, but his fans (especially the japanese) weren't really up for it because it's pretty rare to have a black character in a manga or anime, since there are very few black people in Japan, so he said it was a tan... if the american SJWs heard this, they would go nuts in an instant, even though they consider asians a minority too, so...
You know what? I think this will never be mentioned in the official manga nor in the anime, it will just become an actual black character. -
Self proclaimed superior races that want to dominate the rest : is portrayed as villain and eventually destroyed

lol i'm not saying it's racist (maybe just a little bit), i'm saying it's weird. Why did he go that way? That's the only thing i'd like to know. Making a character that looks black in every way, but it's not really black… was it just for laughs? Subversion of expectations or something?? I mean, in the english adaptation of the anime they even gave him the stereotypical accent of a black person from "the hood"...
Darkshine, yesss, pretty much as i imagine him in real life ahaha

I'm not a professional blogger, activist or fighter for great justice, but my take was that this is simply positive racism.
Help me out, Usopp!

Yawn.
Fact: OPM has characters that are based off of Western & Japanese stereotypes that are played for laughs. Puri-Puri Prisoner, Okamaitachi, and Darkshine Alloy, and others. Some of these veer into territory that readers, depending on their cultural identity, are gonna be uncomfortable with, regardless of the context they appear in. I enjoy the heck out of Murata's work with OPM, and Murata's earlier work drawing Eyeshield 21, but boy do both of these otherwise fantastic series have some… cringey material on those fronts.
And in general, let's say that many Japanese mangaka are not especially... "nuanced" with how they depict darker skinned characters (especially darked skinned Westerners, woof). I'm not even gonna touch Japan's many, many, many, many, many, many camp gay stereotypes; I'm utterly unqualified. But there's an American read of those stereotypes that is gonna be inevitable, even if you aren't black or gay and you don't "get it."
You may dislike that it bothers some readers enough that they speak up about it.
Too bad!

I'm not even american. I literally don't care, i'm not an SJW, they care about skin color, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation etc. and if there isn't enough diversity about those aspects, they get mad (really mad) for some reason. I don't. At best, sometimes i get mad for the opposite reason when there is "forced" diversity. In OPM, since it's not our world, we can say that ethnic groups could be evenly spread across the globe, so there is no reason for a character to not be black. Unless you're saying that the whole world of OPM is basically a representation of Japan.
Anyway, I simply asked for an explanation about Darkshine. I guess we'll never really know the exact reason. Maybe it was just for laughs.
-
There doesn't need to be a reason for a character to be black. There also doesn't need to be a good reason for a character to develop powers in this series, with all the nonsensical cases of people becoming monsters by eating too much crab or becoming bald because they trained too hard (even though it wasn't that hard). ONE probably wanted to create a visually diverse cast for the S class heroes and came with the design for Darkshine and some backstory that fit the mood of the series.

No, maybe you don't get what we're saying here… Darkshine has obviously the appearence of a black man, and it's obviously the parody of guys like Phil Heath, Kai Greene, Ronnie Coleman etc. The only problem is that... it is stated that even if he has the exact appearence of a black man... he is in fact an incredibly tanned asian man... i understand that this is possible in the world of OPM, but for the hundredth time, i'm just asking why One decided to make a character like that, not HOW Darkshine became so tanned... you're talking about creating a "visually diverse" cast, whatever does that mean, but wasn't it diverse enough already? If he didn't want a black (african) man in the cast, why did he have to make a character like Darkshine? He could have make him green or something... I mean, you make a black character that looks exactly like a black man, but than you say he doesn't have african origins?? WHY??? THAT IS THE QUESTION I WAS ASKING! (please, don't answer me saying "Africa doesn't exist in the world of OPM"...)
ANYWAY... i no longer care, since there's no real answer, we talked about this too much now, let's stop and talk about something else before this "controversial" argument monopolizes everything and becomes cancerous...
-

! > I mean, you make a black character that looks exactly like a black man, but than you say he doesn't have african origins?? WHY??? THAT IS THE QUESTION I WAS ASKING!
! One Punch Man is all about exaggerations, cliches and stereotypes. The stereotype is that black people are superior in sports, and it's not even a weird Japan thing.
Here is Kyle undergoing negro plastic surgery because he wanted to be better at basketball:
! >!
! Darkshine simply trained so hard that he didn't only attain the body of a superhuman bodybuilder, he attained the body of a BLACK superhuman bodybuilder (notice his interactions with the weaker Pri-Pri Prisoner later).
! I know you don't want an answer, but this absolutely is the answer. No deeper message involved, I'm convinced. -

I'm just glad One had the courage to do this, luckily he's japanese, if he was american or european he would have been destroyed by sjw criticism for no real reason, you know them… Hermione Granger is black and Dumbledore is gay after all, didn't you know? Oh god...Speaking about more important stuff, the chapter should drop today, right? I read it on twitter if i'm not mistaken.

Next big fight after current one is one of my favourites.. Awesome stuff incomming.

Aaand let's gloss over the anime… let's pretend that it never happened and start from scratch with the third season... hopefully... my god what a shitstorm that was... i hope to forget this nightmare soon.
-
It ended with elder centipede, as I thought. The fight was mostly decent, but the Bang and Bomb combo lacked any impact. After all this, only this fight and the metal bat one I consider losses, the rest I didn't care too much in Murata's version. It would be nice if season 3 comes back with good quality, otherwise there's not much point in continuing the anime.
-
I thought the second season was great. Not as good as season 1 but nothing to get hysterical about tbh.

Previous episode had very decent animation at most times.
But rest of season was rather medicore.. same year we got second season of Mob Psycho 100 that had some of best animated episodes I have ever seen.
Oh well.. 3rd season is great material to pick up for people that made first season/ Mob Psycho.
-
Me as well. I completely understand the people who are sad about the quality and even sadder when remembering season 1 however i for one am just happy i am able to enjoy and relive the great op moments in animated version. I asked my 3 friends watching it also and all of them said the same thing. I guess if you watch anime a lot then it bothers you more. We mostly read manga so it doesnt bother as that much. I would compare it to the one piece anime. I loved it. Its how i started reading manga and some of my friends watching anime told me they actually couldnt get into One piece because of the anime itself.

One Piece anime has terrible pacing and quality is very bad for most part. Last great bits of it we got during Marineford arc, so it was many years ago. Since then there were great episodes, that for sure, but there were much more very badly paced and animated episodes. Also there is a lot of changes in bigger fights that makes some of them completely different feeling than in manga.
Second season of OPM is still much better than what we get in One Piece anime in last few years.

Amen .
-
Not really, dull combat overall (tendency to zoom weird parts so they don't have to animate or draw scenery and body parts),color pallet was definitely sub-par on pretty much everything.
For something only 12 episodes the pace was just awful don't know why ,what weird place to end the season.
The only thing good was Suiryu scenes and King VA for the most part ,characters talking was more exciting and enjoyable then action bits (and that's bit weird on series like this).Never expected season 2 to compete season 1, but this was just disappointing.
Had more fun with Isekai Quartet and actually looking forward for the next season of this.
