The second season is pretty meh, but also the source material isn't that great in comparison. Everybody complained about the martial arts tournament and the amount of "filler" (aka everything that wasn't in ONE's version, no need to have that discussion again). However…

The quality is inferior to season 1, with overuse of cheap animation techniques such as lines and colors instead of backgrouns during action scenes, a lot of cuts and zooms or repetitive motions. It feels like they've been strugling to keep the quality of the manga fights instead of improving on them, but I'll wait until I see Garou vs Metal Bat before judging on that.

I think they should bother put the effort in the Post Superfight material, thats what really matters, the tournament can be Berserk 2016 level of bad, at least we could laugh at it.

Personally I am having fun like it, it is far from unwatchable or any of such nonesense and what is the most important think. I am happy they went for season 2 animation of this awesome manga

Of course, but if the higher ups weren't so greedy and waited at least another 6 months, Madhouse and director Shingo Natsume would gladly have come back for season 2, and we could have had the same exact quality of S1. They had FIVE YEARS to plan this… now i'm stuck with this shitty fight between Metal Bat and Garou, one of the fights i was dying to see animated... instead i got this garbage... still images, dust and smoke and slapping sounds... also, the enphasis put on the power of Metal Bat wasn't even close to give him justice...
And it's not like Madhouse and Natsume are the only ones capable of creating a decent shonen anime with decent animations, it's absurd that they went for this mediocre below average quality for an anime with this level of success.

What a giant disappointment. After patiently waiting FIVE years... Thankfully, the manga is amazing enough, i'm just sad for all the anime only watchers... they definitely don't know what they're missing.

I watched a little of the season 2 material.

It was…not half bad, honestly. Then again, I grew up in the era before high definition display, and had to wait twenty-five years for a proper English translation of the Nausicaa anime. Long-suffering is a coping mechanism that helps immensely in life.

How? How can you not see the still images? The incredibly low number of frames? Sometimes, even for a complex animation, there are literally THREE FRAMES! Oh, and don't let me start talking about the sounds… oh god, awful... How can you not see the incredibly bad quality? Why are you talking about high definition? What does that matter? It's a fact that it is bad, just look at it...
I watched tons of anime in my life, literally dozens or even more, and i swear to you, this is the UGLIEST anime i've ever seen.
I would give it a 4/10 only because episode 3 was at least decent, still ugly as fuck, but accettable, like, i would accept it if it was the worst episode of the whole season, but instead it's the best it seems... without that episode, i would give it a 2/10.

Season 2 is bad compared to season 1 which is the main complaint: ONE's OPM is good but Murata's art is THE biggest selling point and season 1 stood up to the challenge. But season 2 it's still better than the average "popular outside Japan" shonen even if it's nothing outstanding.

For me, Murata’s art is the cherry on top of the OPM cake, it’s One’s story that is the real treasure, here.

If something is mediocre, then it's average. If something is average, then it's above the worst and below the best. I think there's a language misunderstanding here.

S2 adds nothing to people who read the manga, but it works for those who consume anime only. And again, this season is adapting a very critiziced part of OPM bloated with side characters and no sense of risk. The metal bat vs Garou fight is the only casualty so far, the rest are uninteresting fights.

Not sure about others, but I don't have a lot of free time. So what I have won't be spent on anything mediocre. Might as well be total crap because the end result for me is same.

Think that people who enjoyed the smooth action and nice editing of S1 will definitely notice a drop in quality all across the board.

It's not like people who consume anime only have shittier tastes or slower eyes, lol.

I don't even know if this is an anime, or a bunch of BADLY drawn still images. Seriously, guys, do you have EYES?? Or are you in total denial???
Tell me a single shonen anime that, in your opinion, has worst quality than this. I'm all ears. I don't think you can, since this is not even animated. The images are not even moving, they're just shaking, with smoke and dust all around and glowing effects. And man, the coloration, and the worst sounds ever heard in an anime... what an unbelievable mess.
Jeez, even the initial episodes of Dragon Ball Super were ten times better than this shit. And that was harshly criticized, and it's a WEEKLY anime... but this? Oh no, this is fine....
Oh god... with people like you, i'm afraid season 3 will be the same...

There's a pretty wide gap between a 30 year old 30 minute obscure OVA to one of the most popular and hyped seasonal shows of this decade.

Original Dragonball has more fluid action scenes than OPM S2. That would be a closer comparison in my opinion.

OPM is bigger than all those shows and one of it's main selling point is Murata's art. It is very understandable that people are upset about the lackluster quality of season 2 especially after the high bar set by the first season.

Madhouse is no longer the bastion of quality that it used to be and even if it did animate the 3rd season, they may not replicate the quality of season 1.

This is mainly because, apparently, the team that worked on OPM season 1 was a result of a rare occurence where the elite guys of the industry were working on it on a freelance basis. So basically, the lead director used his influence to convince extremely talented guys to work on the Animation, something that could only be achieved by that particular guy.

So unless they just give him the reigns to the show again and probably have to wait maybe 3 years at best for the next one, I think the best studio that might prove to be worthy is Bones.

I'm starting to think that a bit too many "normies" are beginning to follow this manga, and getting disappointed because they don't get normal shonen fights…
I think Orochi lasted even longer than what i wanted. And i think he's not even dead unfortunately.
