I remenber this forum being way more active, wtf happened? Change the background maybe?
Forum activity
-
-
How long would estimate it's been less active?
There could be all kinds of things attributing to it being inactive.
A) about a week
Answer: There hasn't been a chapter and this chapter didn't leave a lot to be discussed.
B) about a month
Answer: Campaigns magnetize a lot of traffic towards them.
C) more
Answer: People aren't "tearing off each other's faces" (quote Monkey King) like they used to. It's a peaceful regime right now. Maybe some people should start remembering how to tear off people's faces; it's all in the wrist I tell ya. -
I think it's the internet is moving on. Forums are old stuff, they where modern 10 years ago. But just like most of us are not on any Newsgroups, the next generation of internet users does not frequent forums anymore. You can find them in Facebook groups or following twitter accounts, podcasts or live streams.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that. 4chan still gets 4.5 billion pageviews per year, and reddit is extremely popular. Of the HUGE forums, Somethingawful miiiiight be the smallest? And even for that, it still has 150,000 users, with about 7000 logged in at any time. And that's WITH all the bans it hands out like hotcakes.
So huge forums still thrive really well. And if a small forum like this that's a One Piece forum still manages to have interesting other sections is considered "inactive"… Well, color me surprised. It could be more active, yeah. But for people to find this forum they oftentimes have to watch all of One Piece. That's a big wall.
So I'd say forums are still alive, and I hope to God the Internet doesn't regress towards people only commenting on facebook groups or youtube comments. I gag at the thought.

One Piece had a boom of popularity during the Marineford war. With a few exceptions, the replies to weekly chapter threads dropped by over half as Luffy's flashback was starting. A few chapters were still sparking a lot of discussion, but those became the minority really fast. It's dropped a bit more since then, while a lot of fans were being disappointed by Fishman Island, but not by nearly as much.
I think it has more to do with the fact that a lot of people lost their desire to put much focus on One Piece than it does with any forum related thing, and the responses were simply abnormally high during the war of the strongest, rather than being low now. And to the story's credit, the chapter threads are still about twice as popular as they were before Impel Down.
-
And then there's the fact that forum activity tends to nosedive every single summer, especially in July/August when many people have more important things to do than hang out online. It happens every year, but it always reverts back to normal a few weeks after the schools start for those in the Northern hemisphere and life returns to its usual course.
When we spend a lot of time working or going to lessons it takes a lot of energy, and our minds naturally want to have something that can distract us after a rough day and charge our batteries. People become lazy when they have no obligations.

Quoted for truth.

You're right. This forum is boring now.
I'm going to leave it forever.
-
Nonsense. The amount of bird related activity just exploded during the last two years. I'm sure of it.
That must count for something. -
@RobbyBevard:

But how do you delete your account?
-
Right now, forum chaos is at an all-time low. When I first joined things felt a lot less organized and more rowdy, so it may be, as mentioned above, the the perceived lack of activity is not necessarily due to a lack of activity, but to a lack of unruliness. The annual summer doldrums too affect a lot of people too.

Or Zephos got the other half of the forum banned.
Or they fled in an angry tantrum.
Or magic.
-
Zephos draws either the worst or best out of people. As long as you don't get involved in history or literature or music with him he won't own you too horribly. But I like the quality control he brings to the table. But seriously it was a major plot twist when I found out he was 23. That's just… whaaaaaaaaaaat. I imagined him to be at least in the 27+ range.
-
I don't work, thus, I don't have time to waste in front of the computer usually anymore (I'm doing much more important wasteful things on the computer now). When I was laid off, my time spent here was shot to hell, and it took me a while to realize why. But then, that was nearly three years ago now - so it's probably my fault (????????).
-
Actually a fair few just grew bored of the in depth manga discussion once the major points were laid out. They still follow the manga, just not the crap that comes after. I guess all that's left after that is stuff between members which isn't appealing to a good volume of the visitors here. After all the stuff covered in most sections can be found elsewhere making only a small part of the forum unique or more exclusive.
And finally you have something as simple as age and life becoming a big factor for those who started this series way way back. Just look at how many well known ( staff included ) people have left for family/life reasons.

"This forum isn't what it used to be… siiiiighhhhhhhhh"
Yet I visit daily. And usually contribute nothing...
I think that means i've become boring.
-
You and we all are just waiting for the next big bubble to burst.

who the hell are you again?????

@dirt:

Exactly! see what I mean?
-
Damn, and here I thought I knew who all the submods were.
-
whippersnappers keep jumping out of nowhere
-
I still want to know who Mumbo is.
-
I miss when Windrays was mod.
That was always the most hilarious thing.
-
I miss Ivotas adn Battle Franky posts, if we are already at it… or the big ass mega troll of you mods named Griffin
-
yes sir, Battle franky's era is pretty much the golden age of AP. And Ivotas was just an hipster.
But you know, I really think this fishman island background play a big part on the loss of activity. It isn't attractive at all with all the fuss about FI arc.
-
I think everything is fine here around
-
the mods weren't griffin - that was Zephos
-
@dirt:

Dat Zephos… I miss him :ninja:
-
Well you could always un-ban Almost Legendary and invite him back?
That would make things more interesting wouldn't it. -

I really really would like to make a Punk Hazard theme but am concerned about the logistics of it.
I think the theme we have looks pretty, honestly. But green is a peaceful color.

I still want to know who Mumbo is.
He did a lot of episode recaps on arlongpark.net back in the day.

Well, we could always try complaining about that new Megaman iOS social game that isn't going to be any good.
I'm Tonfa by the way, and you are?

Same here. Usually just reading here and there and not saying all too much as I used to. Things aren't like the olden times, see, in my day you'd pay a quarter and get a dollar back change and now you just don't…

I would actually love an updated version of the old Grand Line theme. That was always pure Arlong Park for me.

Wanna get this forum active again. Get an AGOG and a Crewmember thread going.
And while we're at it re-do the CP9 skin. Nostalgia from when it was the default skin!
-
AGOG still in his free time has new crazy theories about how Perona will show up in the next chapters
-
I guess you follow him on Twitter.
-
Clearly, the answer is to re-open the fangirling/fanboying thread.
-
We need a gif bombing thread.
That'd help. -
-
@Don:
You sure are in desperate need for that.
Why yes I am.
I'm sure others would benefit also.
A Gif breeding ground.
Where you can post gifs.
And people can find new gifs.
And grow their gif collections.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@RobbyBevard:
…. no.
B'aaaaaaaaaaaaw you're no fuuunnnn.
Not even if it included husky gifs? -
We've had threads like that.
They're mostly in the hall of shame now.
-
No GIFs, Thanks all the same. Slow internet is sloooooooooow.

For me personally yeah, I love One Piece and it will always have a special place in my heart but I think I've grown out of it simply. I remember reading the Ace x Blackbeard fight on One Manga or Mangafox and barely being able to contain myself as I read the bubbles and clicked the next page - but that just doesn't come naturally to me any more, it feels like a chore to read, and it doesn't help I'm really far behind.

If one needs to increase the quantity of .gifs in their collections… just head on over to Somethingawful Forums.
They got what you need.

People should browse SomethingAwful anyway. At the very least the Debate & Discussion subforum; it's what truly separates that forum from other forums. Think you know how to post? Been spending years perfecting your post quality? Prepare to have all of that thrown out the window lol. Being able to post there and not get owned is one of my aspirations.
I'll never stop browsing this forum thanks to it being a One Piece fandom and the fact that I haven't really found a "Anime/Manga" section quite like ours on any other forum. Also the fact that I like OP tons more than some shows I watch that win awards out the wazoo, and deserve them, means I'm not going to stop reading it for the next 10-15 years, either.
