Well Investigations is really not that great to main characters since Phoenix there is refered only as "that guy" or something like that and appears only as a background cameo.
Expect to see Apollo in a boat with Trucy in the background.

This was done mostly to try and let Edgeworth have his own story, not to have Phoenix Eclipsing him, (not that didn't happen in the main story)
The Investigations guys are the best, in my opinion, the Edgeworth games have surpassed the original trilogy + 4. Maybe I'm biased because Edgeworth is definitely my favorite character, but I think it's also due to the better gameplay and the better connected cases.
@The:
TBH as depressing as you guys might find it Apollo Justice might be completely written off, like it might be safe to assume everything that happens in it, while "canonical" at the moment, will never be approached again. It had some very negative response to narrative choices like Apollo being the MC (or at least from Capcom's perspective) and having Phoenix back in the first place is a way for them to try to "recover" (because it's easier to blame it on PHOENIX not being the main character and not that they hamfistedly handled Apollo) and it was basically the most… unpopular game I think. Like, they're okay bringing back the fucking BERRY BIG CIRCUS WORST CASE EVER but Apollo is up in the air. One of Capcom's options here is to basically de-canonize AJ by just placing the games before it on the timeline forever and basically sort of leave it in limbo. If Gyakusai 5 doesn't have any connections to the fourth game, that's probably what's gonna happen and Apollo is fucked out of time and space for all eternity
While I know Saiban 4 had a somewhat shaky reception I don't believe it was that spited amongst certain elements of the fanbase or at least not as bad Saiban 2.
Was AA2 spited? I mean, it's definitely got the weakest soundtrack and the most annoying case, but the other cases are pretty good, especially the one featuring everybody's favorite unassuming ice cream salesman.

Actually, the Lamiroir case was just as annoying as the circus one
That stupid song!!!1111!!!!
Don't remind me.

Hope you don't mind having to watch through this four or five times
Also, the Chief Justice's son has incuritis? Really?
Wasn't it already stated that AA5 happens 1 year after AA4? That's pretty much a direct acknowledgement to the 4th game.
Wait is it? I thought it was an inbetween-quel and it took place before the fourth game
there hasn't been a lack of awful translators giving false info (i.e. siliconera's wacky mistranslations) so I guess I got confused since I kind of haven't… been paying too much attention. Or maybe it was just conjecture way back when I first heard it
Nevermind then??

I actually don't know how it's popularity stacks against 5 but 2 just seems to be in retrospect the oddball of the bunch especially for those reasons you mentioned .

That case was the worst. They suspected the blind boy of murder. Really!?
@Thousand:
That case was the worst. They suspected the blind boy of murder. Really!?
He wasn't actually blind though. The prosecution knew that.
But the main point of that case was to show how stupid the "evidence is absolute" system was. Apollo manages to point all the inconsistencies, but doesn't have the proof to back it up. People like the murderers of Case 3 and 4 were pretty much unbeatable because they knew how to handle potential evidence and pressure the defense.
"Blind boy" kills Interpol agent with a gun that is impossible for him to handle. The premise was absurd, but they had no choice but to go with it because the evidence they had at the time didn't point to anyone else. Basically, somebody had to pay.
^ Well given how legitimately terrible the court systems in Japan and America actually are you can't blame them for the logic being so damn screwy .
so Im gonna go see the movie premiere in Toronto tomorrow dressed as maggie byrde. :3

Well under that logic, the case is somewhat less stupid.
Having only played AA 1 and 2 I'm a relative series noob, but this excites me nonetheless.
And seeeing as how this is where all the experts have gathered, I might as well ask:
What was Damon Gants motive? Was the only reason he created a web of murder and lies to get "moar power", even though he was already chief of police? Why? What would he use it for, and for what reason?
It's my favourite case so far, but that always bugged the hell out of me.
That…pretty much was the reason. I know during the last day of the trial he makes it clear that he only cares about ''me, myself, and I'', but the game never really goes into detail about what he did with all that extra sway.
I've always assumed that Gant was the one who let Manfred pull all his shit.
Also I like how Gant's case sort of tied into Redd White's.

Remember by the time of the first murder that he did he was only chief detective I think, he says he would get a promotion anyway even if he hadn't caugh the serial killer so he wouldn't need to make a fake murder, but the main reason he created that web of lies was to control Lana, make her Chief prosecutor and thus control all parts of the law.
But then in day the evidence of solved cases needed to be moved Goodman asked to reopen that case since it all smelled really fishy, Gant got nervous and murdered him in the heat of the moment.
I fully understand the reason for the present day murder, but…
@IceBorg:

Why? For what reason? And to what ends?
@The:

Gant was the kind of character that had already accomplished his life goals. He had absolute control over the police (he was Chief of Police) and the prosecution (had Lana on the palm of his hands), which made him a sort of God of the Law (which is why he has a holy-sounding theme and a Zeus-inspired design, plus the lightning damage animation). He could convict anybody and cover up anything that could potentially ruin his reputation. The murder of Neil Marshall was a way to achieve this goal.
But Gant's goal was not something that only needed to be achieved, but also kept from being destroyed. That's the point of Bruce Goodman's murder.
In other words:
Marshall's murder:
Why? So he could incriminate Joe Darke for murder. Thus, this would boost his reputation (he was only Chief Detective at the time), which would eventually allow him to become Chief of Police (his goal).
Goodman's murder:
Why? To prevent the truth of the first murder from being discovered, thus preventing his already achieved goal from crumbling down.
Well, I'll hammer it down.
The web was created to get to were he was, it had already served it's purpose, but if you build an evil conspiracy that tangles the police and the prosecutor's offices to get to be the chieff of police and the master of law, and you manage to pull it off, you don't dismantle it.
I like how the topic has got to Damon Gant, considering that case is probably my favourite Gyakuten Saiban case of all. I'm really looking forward to Gyakuten Saiban 5, in fact the mere possibility of it existing before there was any official confirmation was why I bought a 3ds in the first place.Well ok I wanted my best friend to have my first ds to replace her broken one but still lol.
I have bad memories of that case mainly because of the fact that I couldn't get pass the fingerprint section, do to the microphone on my DSLite being broken for some reason, I had to borrow another DS and complete the remainder of it one sitting tedios stuff but it paid off in the end.
I just finished GK2, and now conider Capcoms decision not to localize it a declaration of war against humanity. It
s seriously that insanely amazing
Can't wait to not get the in-jokes and easter eggs that'll appear in 5!

at murder scene
cake is present at murder scene, next to step-ladder
examine cake
Phoenix: Hmm. Cake. I wonder if the murderer was after it.
Maya: Don't be silly, Nick! Who would murder someone over a cake and start a horrific chain of events anyway???
American audience: ???????????
It'll be like Capcom twisting the dagger a little more each time I see something like that in game
Gil, do you read japanese? how did you get through that game?

My Japanese is intermediate. I toughed it out through constant dictionary checking. Totally, completely worth it. Seriously so impressed right now.

Well, it was a bit more substantial than just wanting a cake lol
can you do kanji? I wonder if I could do it. I'm not into kanji yet. First, I gotta find the game.

Yes, I can do kanji.
Of course, the best kanji to learn are

Can't wait for the hack-and-slash spin-off Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice Rising: Revengeance
Justice isn't blind, it just doesn't have depth perception!
This is what years of magic panties do to Apollo
Holy shit he's a badass now!! Very, very nice
See, Team Edgey won't let us down
Apollo is giving me some massive Ryu vibes now.

im getting more of the big boss with an admirals jacket vibe from him myself. Either way the kid is looking pretty awesome this time around

Where not only he catches the culprits, he gets to execute them as well, Monobear-style.
The jacet is kind of out of place, it should be the suit's.
Is Apollo's role in this already known?
Can he be… the prosecutor!!?!???!

His hair looks suspiciously like Von Karma's now.

Apollo's really Fujitora, it all makes sense.
Please be prosecutor
Imagine if that's just a custom Polly's wearing for a single case
On the one hand, if he's prosecutor, that would be an awesome twist to fight against a former player character
On the other hand… Wouldn't that mean he'd have to be wrong and accuse innocent people for four straight cases? Not sure I want that
I mean, especially because he's essentially Phoenix's son of sorts
I really doubt Apollo's the silhouette. The hair doesn't match up at all, for one. The coat might signify that they're part of the same organization though, whatever that may be.
