I think we need a place to look forward to this. The Heroic Legend of Arslan is a light novel series written by Yoshiki Tanaka. The first book came out in 1986 and as of 2013 it is still ongoing with 13 Volumes released so far. The story will be brought into a manga format by Hiromu Arakawa best known as the mangaka of Fullmetal Alchemist.
Start of serialization is in July 2013 and it will run in the Bessatsu Shounen Magazine

This is very interesting, LotGH was an amazing series and I have high hopes that Arslan will be of the same writing quality.
well to be honest, part 1/act 1 was good, but many readers agree act 2 is kind of a let down.
Act 2 hasn't finished, so it can still redeem itself.
I dunno how long the manga is going, but I doubt Arslan would be finished by the time the manga catches up, so just doing Act 1 I think would be a very good idea, as it is a very good stopping point.

The hiatuses aren't any longer than many other long running novels.
About the same as Tweleve Kingdoms and certainly better than Seikai series, lol.
Arslan is planned to be a sixteen book series, and the last book was volume 13 released in 2008.
Started in mid 80s.
Only a few more volumes to complete, but that can easily take another ten years lol.

I don't think SS is ending that soon, but it's certainly getting to a series climax.

He has literally held serialization in ALL FOUR of the major shounen magazines.

I like it so far due to the political intrigue and fast paced flow of the narrative (at least based on what we've seen). In terms of Arakawa's art, to be fair, it looks nice and clean, but her style doesn't really lend itself to having very diverse/unique character designs which is why we'll inevitably run into a lot of familiar faces.

Maybe she gets to dictate the terms more when picking up new publishers. Sort of like here is what I would do and how I want to do it, who wants to publish for me? I'm pretty sure the change was her choice.

I prefer to think of it not as a three year timeskip but more setup for what's to come. It's just setting up the premise and the location.

Comparable maybe to how One Piece started, with Luffy as a child, then skipping forwards several years? I guess that doesn't sound too bad.

Inoe's Slam Dunk and Vagabond are quite distinct..Urasawa's Monster,20th Century boys and Pluto are distinct too..even if there are likeness(i don't know) you can't spot it immediately..far suppressed...

And the difference between Slam Dunk + Real and Vagabond is explained by the fact that one of the most important reasons for Inoue to start Vagabond was that he wanted to try a more artistic style for a manga.

well,i have read them some 3 years apart..perhaps that's the reason i missed the likeness..
Arakawa's is too easy to spot because those eyes and hairs..you remember them for long…
I already scanlated this and released in my language, lol. Well, great start. The religion stuff was intriguing and the characters are good so far.

I don't get it, once in a while mangastream could do something good for the manga scene and scanlate a series that is not licensed in english. I wonder why they picked up ReMember (KING Gonta) in the first place when they just look at the website traffic statistics
Well took'em awhile but mangastream finally got off their asses and translated chapter 2.
Lmao that editorial blurb. "IS THIS THE END OF ARSLAN?!" That'd make for a quick series now wouldn't it.
Minor foreshadowing in the conversation between Vaphreze and Daryoon:
! "What does he look more like? The king or queen" I cannot remember if that scene was in the anime. However, it was a really great chapter and well paced.

This thread is kind of dead.. Shame as Manga is getting pretty good after few chapters. It feels a bit like Arakawa is starting to feel story, characters and how she should draw to make s not think about names of FMA characters when we look at this manga.
Good read with potential to be amazing in future.

Yes, it is released as regular as a monthly manga can be, we are waiting for chapter 6 currently.

Compared to the anime version, it seems to me Arakawa's design of King Innocentins made him a living caricature of a diabolically bored child who happens to be a grown up king

I stopped reading this at around chapter 11 due to the scanlation release dates being all over the place so watching this anime will be a welcome alternative. Now I just hope they don't censor things needlessly and copy Arakawa's art style to the best of their abilities.

I don't get the whole scanlation thing. Crunchyroll is releasing the manga officially for nearly a year and you can read the latest chapter legally for free (Link - use the hola add-on and alter the ip if you are not able to access it in your region)
Since the anime is now overtaking the manga I was kinda wondering what the people here who read this will do now? Will you watch both or drop one of the two adaptions? I'm kind of unsure myself.
Personally, I'm going to continue following both.
