Why was Jimbe just ignored like that when straw hats were leaving? o.o
Chapter 653: The hero's hat
-
-
This is like a Bleack chapter. NOTHING HAPPENED!
Actually you can tell 2 things happened.
First, the SH's left the island as heroes and learned about the magnetic field of the NW's islands. Second, they made a promise with Shirahoshi to one day return.
If this was a Bleach chapter, Neptune would reveal himself as a villian, attacking Luffy from behind, while Zoro and Sanji would do nothing about it. Maybe a flashback would start aswell, who knows. And Shank's one shot would have been even more creppy. -
Bittersweet. On one hand, I found myself laughing a LOT during the chapter (minister of the right and Neptune's conversation was hilarious), and it left me with a warm feeling.
On the other hand, it's true we left a lot of things in FI. We definitely needed more exploration (Fishman Karate Dojo, I know, I know. . .), and some things just "were there". Den, hello? Are you there?BUUUUUUUUUUT! That brings me to my next point, and that is. . .there'll be more Fishman Island. You guys KNOW IT. Fucking POSEIDON is there, and Caribou knows it, and he'll tell his "boss" about it (Doflamingo? Better yet. . .BUGGY?. . .). I'm SURE Den is fixing Noa right now. That won't go unnoticed. Jinbe will come back too. AND, this chapter just basicaly STATED that Shirley's prediction is still on hold to become true in the near future. . .
This was not Good Bye. This was a "see you later, space cowboy".
Edit: Plot-related stuff not happening in a chapter = chapter is invalid?? Seriously guys. . .One Piece ain't even about it's plot. Sure, it's great, and it keeps us glued and interested on this manga, but the core, the essence, is to have fun. Wasn't this chapter fucking funny? Can't some of you enjoy it for what it is?
-
Great chapter. Had to read it a couple times to figure out all the little connections.
And also can any1 spot Pandaman? i couldn't find him and i been through whole thing like 4 times.

This is like a Bleack chapter. NOTHING HAPPENED!
WHY DIDN'T THEY REACH THE NEW WORLD AND SHOW OFF ALL THE SUPERNOVAS AND GIVE NEW ANCIENT HISTORY HINTS ALL IN ONE CHAPTER
Seriously, have some of you guys never rea a One Piece Arc finale before? Were you just expecting them to leave the island in the first three pages? That there wouldn't be a final "YEEEEAAAH!" spread to underline the momentous occasion that is going into the new world? This chapter was NOT uneventful. It gave closure to a lot of the plot threads of the arc before moving on to the next, something that is shat royally upon in mangas like Bleach.
- Closure of Shyarleys prediction
- Explanation of the new world log pose mechanics, brought up 40 chapters ago.
- Proper farewells from Hacchi, Keimi and Pappug and the royal family, and hits at what their future holds.
- Closure of Shirahoshis progression from an isolated scaredycat to someone capable of-and willing to- finally seeing the world, as shown by her promise to Luffy.
- General Farewell from fishman-kind in general, as well as showing of the shift in fishman islands attitude towards humans. Also, Jinbes role regarding this new mentality.
- Departure, explanation of their mechanism of ascension, and giving a proper new world greeting from the entire crew.
That Oda found time to squeeze in tonnes of good gags and crew interactions is just the icing on the cake.
If this was Bleach the whole log pose thing would be forgotten, along with the prediction. There woul be hardly any characters from the arc present, some of the crewmembers wouldn't even appear, much less have comments on the arc ending. There would be no adressing of the progress of fishman island.
It would be a chapter solely consisting of Shirahoshi gushing over how great Luffy is.
With a minimal amount of backgrouns. -
Wow feels weird seeing that flashback of Luffy talking to Coby about new world, only because Luffy is shown shorter than Coby… what the..

"left panel same face , same hairstyle just one diff she is mermaid "That's ok, because both don't wear panties.
here is the mystery :
luffy will destroy fishman island so i expect to see dark side luffy after 1 year in manga storyline
I have a question
luffy promise to see shir again …. could be she is the one who stop darkside luffy with here ability or something like that ??The concept of a darkside luffy doesn't fit One Piece. We don't know why Luffy will destroy FI. It could be that Luffy is doing it for the same reason he was willing to destroy the Baratie or Noah. Besides with Noah as the ultimate escape boat and possible future home of the Fishmen and Mermen FI can easily be destroyed. Especially since Otohime already petitioned for the allowance to migrate to the surface ten years ago. If they migrate to the surface FI is no longer needed.

I just noticed something. Isn't Jinbe going to get a STRAW HAT for that boy? Isn't the premonition about a person with a STRAW HAT? Caribou is still in the island aswell, not that I'm expecting him to do such thing, but if the premonition turns out to be true, then this chapter somehow hinted it.

great chapter, but once again it seems alot of you are jumping to the conclusion that this was the end chapter of fishman island, even if it is… there would still be a transsition arc like for example post-fishman island , with showing us the straw hats going towards the surface again, whatever caribou is going to do, some more talk between potentially neptune and jinbe regarding big mom, perhaps some scenes in the new world of what the other rookies have been upto etc... , there is no way that the gang will resurface in the new world next week already....

By the way, I loved the ambiguity of two particular scenes in this chapter. First being Shyarly's (god that name's so weird) words about the possibility of "the one wrong prediction…" and the second the scene between Luffy and Jinbe. Especially the latter gave me a badass vibe; like something awesome's bound to happen.

Maybe it's just me, but I got a little goosebump when they all made a promise with Shirahoshi. Mostly because we all know that she's going to play a key role in the story's finale, and that quite a terrible fate awaits her (especially if she falls into the hand of Doflamingo, or Blackbeard, or the government, which I can definitely see happening). Oda will most likely use this "promise" scene as a tear-jerking flashblack a few years later as well…..

Jinbe –> Gets Straw Hat --> Gives Straw Hat --> That person with the Straw Hat = Man with Straw Hat in vision from Madame --> Will terrorize FI in a while.
Think that might be the case.

This is like a Bleack chapter. NOTHING HAPPENED!
Stupidity is on the rise, it seems.
closure on navigation problems
explanation on tboth the future of FI and the prediction of it's destruction
some character development for Shirhoshi
official send-off to the New World
some nice jokesThat's good enough for me.
-
Well I am just glad that this arc is finally over. On to the New World!!! :D

This is the end chapter. We've already had the post FI island arc. That's what everything since Hody got beat has been.
And Caribou is beaten. Pekoms took him out last chapter.
Knowing Oda, we're not going to get any shots of the Supernovas or learn anything substantial about them until the SHs encounter them. There's really nothing left to cover.
-
A very warming chapter. Love the interaction beetwen the Strawhatsas always_. This_ is the One Piece I know… And seriously, comparing this chapter with bleach's is ridiculous. If you have taken a certain chapter from marineford arc, I'd have agreed.
Shirley and Keimie's statements about the prediction made the chapter for me. Shit is far from being over, guys (just like Enel and his spacey minions).
-
I wasn't expecting an ending chapter this soon.
I literally went back and skimmed through the previous chapter to make sure I didn't miss anything.
My thought process was Big Mom was coming to Fishman Island to destroy it/Luffy, and now Luffy leaves?:wassat:
Anyways, Smoker and Tashigi will probably be seen real soon now.
-
This chapter was hilarious and just so heartwarming. I also feel like we'll be seeing Fishman Island again. There's the promises and stuff that hasn't been quite resolved yet.

It never was Big Mam's intention to come to FI. Luffy challenged her and she answered that she's waiting for him in the NW. Therefore Luffy has to come to her and not vice versa.
-
Wasn't the most filling chapter, I still seemed hungry for a little more One Piece after I read it. But I enjoyed it, it was a feel good chapter. I think the fact that Jimbei isn't joining now could mean that we will get a flashback for him in a coming arc. Over all Oda has left a lot for build up and this chapter was a great chapter to excite us for the story lines to come.
-
FINALLY, TO THE NEW WORLD!

Okay, thanks for the clarification there.
Anyone notice the huge spelling mistakes in the Mangastream post?
They consistently left the "f" off of if. So what we read is "I we passed" -
Oh well…
I am a little disappointed.
No Fishmen Karate Dojo this time, everything was rushed, no Jinbe, just a simple goodbye.
It wasn't a good way to end this arc.For me, the only disappointing thing is to read posts like these. It's sad that some fans don't truly value what Oda does and always tend to crucify him when something doesn't meet their own expectations. Why not try to become less intransigent? Why not stop to reflect a bit and see if the real problem doesn't lie in you, rather than the author? We got great reveals, many funny moments, some cool characters… it may have it's flaws, but the pros still surpass the cons, don't you think? That's more than enough for me. I expect even better arcs in the future? Yeah,definitely...but I will not call them 'disappointing' if they don't turn exactly as i've imagined.
Therefore, while I am always looking for more, I must say that I also tend to appreciate and be happy for what I already have in hands...especially when it comes to something that I have the pleasure of enjoying FOR FREE.
And just to complement my point, allow me to show this little video that illustrates decently well the message that i'm trying to convey here:
-
Was Fuukaboshi talking the sea kings when he said that they will have the greatest military strength at sea, which if so also means they won't have to rely on pirates protecting their island.
The chapter was fantastic, I especially loved how Oda explained the new Log pose and how it works, a really simple and awesome explanation.
Zorro and Franky didn't make the pinky promise, now why is that(I can kind of understand Zorro) or are they too cool for that?
-
I guess because both Franky and Zoro didn't have much interaction with Shiraihoshi and that they are TOO MAN to do pinky promise!! XD XD
Very nice chapter that wraps things up nicely!! As usual, Luffy will choose the MOST DANGEROUS ROUTE!!! XD
Love the new outfit by Robin, although I didn't like the new bra that Nami has … I loved how she tied her hair though!!! XD
Jinbe will be back again since he will go to the SURFACE to get Hats for the children of FI!!! HOW CUTE!!!! XD
-
why how "shaky" the needle is ,indicates how dangerous the route is?At best,it indicates how difficult is to navigate because of the instability of the magnetic field, but this shouldn't interest Luffy…
I don't think it can tell danger as in PEOPLE, but as in how unstable the island is. Take for instance Long Ring Long Island and the island where Lightning rains down. Long Ring would have a completely stable needle always because nothing unique weather wise happens. Meanwhile thunder island would probably shake. Or think of the island Luffy trained on, it chnaged seasons like mad, that could change the crap that woul make the pose shake.
So its the ISLAND that is unstable and thus potentially more dangerous, not whether Kaidou is chilling on an island or not.
AND as with evolution, to survive a more dangerous land, you need to adapt, thus the animals, plants or natives on the island should have adapted and will likely be stronger as well
-
Zorro and Franky didn't make the pinky promise, now why is that(I can kind of understand Zorro) or are they too cool for that?
They did it. With their hearts.
@Thatanas:High five! ^_^
High Five!

And this is when Gaben will appear. xD
What a cute moment was Shirahoshi's promise to see a surfaced forest.
-
I think my favourite part was when he mentioned Shanks. We'd been thinking about it in the back of our minds this whole time and Luffy brought it to the forefront, people are tearing this chapter apart because of plot development but there are lots of subtleties in this chapter that you can only appreciate if you've read this thing from the start and still now and then skip back to get that overwhelming feeling of romance again.
-
really nice chapter.
lol @ Luffy binding Nami with his neck XD
-
When we saw Urouge for the last time before the TS did we actually see his log pose, or was it just mentioned that it was pointing to the island with lightning, because we definitely didn't see anything like the one they just got.
He might not have had this 3 pose, and thsu had to follow whatever 1 route his pose showed him.
the old log pose still works in new world, its just that since the islands can be so unstable it might all of a sudden lose its field and make following that roue impossilbe, thus you have 2 others to fall back on.
-
I think its safe to assume that the compass reacts to magnetic fluctuations based on natural elements(fire/thunder etc) like people have pointed out already. What I'm wondering is if the magnetic field can also be affected by other drastic elements. For example; if two really strong people were going at it like the Admiral face-off, would that have an effect on the compass? Thereby making a 'safe' island appear dangerous? Just thinking out loud…

Hahahaha, Oda's plot-fixing floaty wood resurfaces (literally). Read the SBS about Mr. Three here (http://arlongpark.net/Manga/SBS/25, for Chapter 230).
Franky found Plot Hax wood chips!

LOL Has luffy ever wrapped himself around his other crewmates, I think this is the first time we are seeing it its quite hilarious XD

I really don't agree, IF this is how everyone resurfaces from FI then its something that has always been there and is just as normal as bubble coating, just because we didn't get to see how Franky was taught about this doesn't make it any less part of the world
-
That Kokoro is such a boss she can speed through the water with an open umbrella and it doesn't reverse
-

Oh, I agree that it's part of the world now, I just think it's clever that Oda took something that was clearly a tongue-in-cheek covering of his ass and used it for narrative purposes. One of the many, many reasons I love the man.
-
Hmm… a possible theory from me is Big Mom comes and destroys the island as the kid with the Strawhat watches on....
-
Oh, and for those who are looking for any argument that Sanji now has CoA haki, he's fighting Zoro in Diable Jambe form on the sixth page without the pre-game spinning. Of course, it's for comedic effect, so take with several grains of salt.
-
I don't know why but I find myself really missing the crybaby Shirahoshi. I never had strong feelings for her before but, now that shes gone I kinda miss her.
-
Maybe it's just me, but I got a little goosebump when they all made a promise with Shirahoshi. That's exactly how I felt too.
Haha just reread Brook's line you would know about keeping promises wn't you Brook.
I would have liked Tiger and Otohime's faces in the background of that farewell scene to show how far FI has come and how much is left ahead.Liked Neptune's words about the debt.Anyway where is Decken's ship will the SHs meet it on their way up? And I didn't know about this floating wood thing nice,Oda! -
I think Shirahoshi is like Coby. Some people like both of them because of what potential they have as characters and some just hate them because of their crybaby-ness.
-

And they both have pink hair.
