Well, by the looks of his tool in the corolspread, it looks similiar to a butterfly net, but the strings are probably elastic so it can be pulled back, much like his sling. It might be his replacement of his previous slingshot since it might be able to shoot a bit larger projectiles such as cannonballs.
Edit:But probably not since the sticks poking inside are resticting it from much larger objects.
i can't wait to see sogeking use his slingshot staff ^_^ who knows what pwnage shall be unraveled in the near future…

having yet to see Soge i have no idea if he's cooler, braver, more manly than Usopp or not, but if he is, even if Usopp reverts, i'd like him to maintain those aspects to his personality, i would love another crew mate for comic releif as the usopp cowardly thing is past his sell by date, he's now taken on enemies other people wouldn't dream of.

Usopp will most likely have given himself dials as well since he upgraded Nami's staff. Maybe Usopp found a way to overcome the backlash of the impact dial?

Alright! Back to topic; the new wapon. I would say that the staff's length means that the sturdiness is increased, and there is a possibility that it can be used for close range combat. Any thoughts?

That'll be like the Jedi Knights from Star Wars. Not bouncing blaster shots back, but the motion's the same.. as the user flings the saber/staff, projectiles fly to their opponents.

Well, some people talk as if he were a different character or something, but he's just Usopp wearing a mask and cape to me. XD He's always had the ability to to be cool and brave when he needs to be. There's no magic in a costume.
Whether or not Usopp makes known that he is Sogeking is important to whether or not he'll continue on with that weapon (assuming it's really going to be used). Would he continue to use it as just Usopp?

I think Usopp could theoretically become strong enough to use it without causing so much injury. Unless maybe there was something that they were doing to absorb the shock.

I have been trying to get my boyfriend's cousin to make a slingshot like that for me. He told me that the way to make it strong is to layer the wood so that the fibers in each piece go against one another, and carve the shape out from that, and it will be hard to break.

Interesting fact; the bandages wrapped around the staff (OMG SO k00l x_x) means that this area is where Usopp will hold the staff. This also suggests that he will hold it using one or two hands; the length of the bandage is enough for two hands to do so.

My wild guess on that is there is only five strings because Us- cough Sogeking, needs more room to load the slingshot, so there wouldn't be a sixth peg thing at the top (did that make sense?) Then he wouldn't get his hands entangled in it and he would be able to reload from the back, instead of from the front. I think it over all makes the weapon quicker and more efficent. I really can't wait to see how Sogeking's weapon works. =3 (Usopps weapons always seemed to be the most interesting, because he changes them so often, also making upgrades and adding new things!)

So! Since the full shape of the staff is finally revealed, we can draw more conclusions…
First: Five stalks, one pocket. The pocket looks kinda large, so I assume that the staff's main function is to launch bigger projectiles with more damage.
Second: Hmm... no sign of Dials anywhere. Maybe the staff is strictly a long-range weapon?

My original thought was that there was a Jet Dial in the shot pocket; that would increase the overall power (force, acceleration, velocity, what have you) of whatever Ussopp puts in it. Since he has to pull the pocket back, it makes sense if he would have enough time to trigger the dial upon release.
Hmm… Jet Dials are extinct, and Usopp couldn't get ahold of any in Skypiea.
But the theory of the pocket having a Dial is nice. Flame dial, anyone? Ignite the star before firing?
I think he will use impact dial at the end of the stick, so when it is used, it shot much faster than his normal slingshot attack (something like a gun)

Gedatsu had Jet Dials in arms to hasten his punches, Eneru had a fudgeload to maintain Maxim's altitude after the primary electric motor was destroyed, and Nami has a Jet Dial on her Waver. They're only extinct in terms of production; Jet and Reject dials are no longer being made and are quite rare, but they still exist.

And I also recall a move in GB: Rush (although Oda might have nothing to do with it) where he stabs a giant catapult in the ground and then shoots some nasty stuff from it.
