It's Yury Dreyar. http://fairytail.wikia.com/wiki/Yury_Dreyar
Decent chapter of FT, am glad Hiro has finally introduce the 4 Ishgar gods. I agree it felt some, what underwhelming with the intro being 1 2 3 literally but, all that matters is what they can do, here's hoping they have OP MAGIC. This God Serena Williams dude, I always suspected him to be a baddie, so I wasn't really that surprise with that last page, if the connection with him being Yuri are right, could his powers also be base on lightening because for some reason this guy give's me the ENEL vibe for FT, if am not getting ahead of myself.
Hiro sure does know how to HYPE villains, and his just done again, time to deliver MASHIMA. Am not really expecting Natsu to lose, but ERZA going down to the second or strongest of the 12 shields would be very welcoming on my part.
Bleh
So completely bleh.
Watch Natsu win with friendship. Someone get out the Fairy Tail arc bingo board. I'm feeling lucky.
Who is Yuri?
It can't be this guy, http://fairytail.wikia.com/wiki/Yuri
Yury Dreyar, Makarov's father. He was a founding member of Fairy Tail and used Lightning Magic, only naturally unlike Laxus, who has to rely on the Lachrima his father implanted in him. He was also extremely adept at it from what we've seen so far.
I wonder if one of the reasons Makarov left was to save his father. A quest he needed to do alone. Then Natsu busts in and saves the day and said he should have believed in friendship.
I wonder if Mashima ties this all in with more Zeref/Acnologia.
MANshima proving again why he is one of the best in the business.
The upcoming arc seems that it will be the best FT arc ever.
Unfortunatly, they all seem like that at the beggining.
@Mr0:
Am I the only one that thinks that Serena is Yuri ? Also, how are these guys supposed to be a challenge if Laxus was able to beat Jura a year ago, and the bad guys are supposedly about that level ? We all know Fairy Tail will win with the power of friendship anyway…
Wolfheim, Hyberion, and Serena were stated to be in another league compared to Jura.
Thank you very much. I was getting really confused there with the different spellings.
Apparently Mashima has trouble understanding the difference between male and female english names. I've heard that originally Mavis was suppose to be male, but then he found out it's a female name and just went with it.
After all, the last boss in Rave was called Lucia, which is another female name…
It kind of shows the lack of research on Mashima's part. Lucia and Serena shows up often in various media and almost guaranteed to be female name (maybe with some traps mixed in, but still). For Mavis I kind of understand since it's not used as often as the other two. To be honest, I didn't know it was a male name too lmao.
Unless maybe, Serena here is just a title. It's still weird though. But anyway, we don't even know what kind of person he is (except for being the strongest or whatever) and suddenly he's already changed sides. Rushed and forced tension at its finest. High chance that he'll turn out to be an undercover agent anyway, just like Gray did.
I don't get how this is supposed to generate any hype at all.
The New World from One Piece, Toriko's Gourmet World or Negima's Magic World… These places do (or did) actually create hype for me, but this... seriously, just no.

It's fairly apparent that Serena is Yury Dreyar. If the other 3 founding members of Fairy Tail were still around (granted, Mavis is in Stasis, and Precht was killed by Zeref, but regardless…), then there's no reason Yury wouldn't be alive too. Their appearance is identical, anyway, save for the weird upside-down ponytail thing. It's possible Serena may be a codename he adopted, perhaps the name of Makarov's mother (we haven't seen her or Laxus's mother anywhere).

That was cute.
Wow. I… like this chapter of Fairy Tail Zero...Zera. It was really cute.
This is the second-to-last chapter of Zero btw.
Two chapters of Ice Trail on Mangastream.
I love the villains designs in this spin-off.
Funny how spin-offs can be much better than the actual series. Fairy Tail Zero did a much better job with the friendship aspect. Mavis's only friend was an illusion she subconsciously created which she just found out. All those memories to her are real and Zera leaving is something that is hard for her to take. She has to take a step and accept the truth, and move on with real people to make real bonds. It's kind of a personification of an imaginary friend. It's not real, but there was something there for the person. Now that the opportunity is there for real friendship, the person must discard the illusion for the real thing.
Fairy Tail Ice has just been all around fun. Creative designs with some fun characters and Grey is likable. Nothing special, but it works overall.
Titties: The manga.
Spin Offs are better.
And just when I started thinking we'd get something different now on this isla… Dammit.
Just like Mashima to completely ditch the somewhat-interesting-because-never-before-done-in-the-series infiltration approach after like 2 chapters for a badly executed naruto pun and the usual friendship lol
What Naruto pun? All I saw was Luffy punching Tenryuubito B-production style.

hand seal and '-no jutsu'…poorly done though.
also infiltration ended before it properly began..:ninja:

I guess you can call everything "pun" these days? Not sure I follow.
I'd say it was just a nod to Naruto. Poorly done, but nothing to hold against Mashima.
Wonder what now? Mest will need to manipulate a lot of people's memories if they are to continue undercover.

That's not a Naruto pun since Naruto didn't invent the concept to begin with.
pun or not,it was a Naruto reference.
Why do you do this Mashima. This is a terrible chapter.
Well, this chapter… seems to actually be good. As usual the beginning of an arc somewhat starts promising. And Lucy's ass actually fulfills a role fitting to the story...?!
reads last pages
Never mind...
Fine chapter, basing on Panther Lily words Alvarez main people are stronger than Mard Geer, It was obvious the MC was gonna take out these Alvarez foot soldiers.
This chapter was pretty good up until the last couple pages. Natsu really causes the plot to drag down from his stupidity and inability to curb instincts.
The slight biys of information about other nations is kinda neat. Cities not named after flowers or herbs? Have we even seen that many places? The bit of flirting was actually kinda cute.
The motion sickness was odd. I thought they kicked that at one point?
Don't see it as Natsu's problem. Natsu will always be Natsu. Or would you like him more if he just allowed that soldier to kill that boy?
Problem here is Mashima putting it such a shitty plot point in the first place. Soldiers who aren't even in charge of that place feel like they can kill children in a broad daylight in the middle of a busy street? Very creative.
But Raaaaaaazh, how else are we supposed to know that they are evil without Mashima shoving their evilness into our throats?
Next week, in Fairy Tail: Soldiers of Alvarez want to use broken dreams of old people and baby dolphin tears to fuel a Doomsday Machine. What will our heroes do?
pun or not,it was a Naruto reference.
Except it wasn't. Perhaps you should do more research on ninjas.
Except it wasn't.
Oh come on, it seems like an obvious Naruto reference.
If it was just Natsu masked as a ninja with a hand seal, I'd be with you, but adding the named attack with the same wording as in Naruto…
I know that wording wasn't used in Naruto exclusively, but isn't Naruto the most famous manga featuring ninjas currently?
Ninja art: retarded bullshit no jutsu.
Except it wasn't. Perhaps you should do more research on ninjas.
you should rather do better using logic.

What they always do SC; One-Shot them all of course!

What Natsu did was stereotypical ninja stuff. Naruto only incorporated these things since it's a manga based on ninjas. Jutsu means "technique", "spell", "trick" etc. "No Jutsu" means "Technique of". The phrase "no jutsu" was used when referencing ninjutsu techniques and it's been around long before Naruto. The notion of ninjas using hand seals was conceived in feudal Japan. I don't see how Naruto's popularity factors into this. @auem:

This doesn't even make any sense.

Just my five cents: Fairy Tail doesn't usually reference or incorporate cultural aspects, but rather other mangas or selected elements from them. Naruto is a very popular manga. Both mangas are shounen, hence readers are of the same age. Mashima knows how to appeal to his readers; It's more likely they will get a reference to a popular manga, rather than one to historical facts - as sad as that may be.

Are you really explaining what "jutsu" or "no jutsu" means to another shounen fanatic? Stuff like that should be common knowledge even for a casual reader.
Also, what Pennywise said. There's a lot more chance Mashima is referencing another (mega)popular shounen manga than anything else.
Btw, why can't he reference both the culture and Naruto?

What I'm saying is that this ninja stuff isn't even from Naruto which means that it wouldn't be possible for it to be a reference to Naruto. You'd have a point if it was unique to the series, but it isn't. As I mentioned before, that's simply a ninja cliche. @Razh:

As I said to penny, ninjas are a huge part of Japanese culture. Claiming that this was influenced by Naruto is baseless and pretty ridiculous since Naruto wasn't the source of it. It's akin to someone claiming that Death Note referenced Bleach since they both had Shinigami or that Berserk referenced One Piece since it also had pirates.
Well, it comes down to this. It's just your opinion, which may or may not be correct.
Naruto might not have been the first source of the trope, but Mashima could have thought of Naruto when putting it in. If you have evidence it wasn't so, feel free.
Guys, guys, they're crossing the ocean on a ship to get to an island! Mashima is obviously referencing One Piece!
…right?
Hey, it's possible, even though it's not so blatant.
Still, Erza is the guildmaster and she's the only one with a straw hat…
Plus, all the ladies wear king size bras and Natsu has an X shaped scar. Similarities keep piling up.
!
Why would a Kodasha manga ever reference a current Shuiesha manga?
Why would a Kodasha manga ever reference a current Shuiesha manga?
Why would Kodansha manga make a reference that could be easilly related to a Shueisha manga? :ninja:
Seriously guys, this needs to stop. Nothing short of Mashima's declaration can settle the matter.
One Piece doesn't have more than 2 irrelevant characters in one ship.

when did real ninja's do such 'handseal' as Natsu is doing here:
[HIDE][/HIDE]
Well, it comes down to this. It's just your opinion, which may or may not be correct.
No, Horizon is factually correct. You guys are being pretentious. You want to see references where there are none to validate your interests. You're trying to see satanic verses in a Dr. Seuss book.
What you're doing is the stereotypical "Narutard" behavior that makes the series and manga/anime in general a target for ridicule. This is no different than if you were trying to claim that Naruto invented the concept of the nine-tailed fox or kancho. Please stop.
He may be factually correct, and if you read what I wrote earlier you know I never disputed that.
However claiming Mashima didn't have Naruto in mind when drawing that is also pretty prerentious, considering nobody can know for sure.
You can't tell other people how to think. Not with those arguments, anyway.
