All of the comments i've been reading for chapter reviews on youtube have been absolutely negative on this particular chapter saying that the chapter was the worse chapter to come out. Most of them are complaining that Elfman beat Bachus and that Erza didn't fight. These complaints make Thousand Lion's look like gold.

He's on par with jobbing Erza who always has to let a guild member of inferior rank to fight the arc boss because of plot, not the actual competent Erza, which exists between arcs when Natsu isn't around.

Gotta admit they hold weight. Hype the dude up to be on par with Erza. Then hype it up for him vs. Erza. Then make him fight Elfman and lose to Elfman who should technically get his ass handed to him by Erza, Bacchus's equal.

In his defense he was getting his ass kicked until he actually used strategy, something that Fairy Tail members have generally avoided in the past.

That's because Erza's general strategy was always attacking until the target was defeated, which is useless on Bacchus as shown at the beginning of the fight. Bacchus also uses the same strategy, which Elfman took advantage of by becoming the deadliest punching bag ever.

As said, I'm not complaining, just noting something I thought was a cool reference.

I hate such petty complaints. When the complaints are justified, even if I don't necessarily think it's that big of a deal, I will not say anything. I actually think this chapter was fine and it was nice that a side character for some action for once.

Don't see what the big deal is. Actually enjoyed this chapter, nice to see Elfman shine for once and defiantly can see how he seems 'zoanish' and it works great for him.

Sabertooth: The arrogant rivals. Antagonistic to be sure, but they don't appear to be evil.
Raven Tail: Definitely evil, but so far they don't seem to have a master plan beyond defeating Fairy Tail in the tournament at any cost.
Arcadia: The king's right-hand knight. He has an evil plan that seeming involves an eclipse and the destruction of the castle by using Lucy to activate some sort of spell.
Everyone else seems to just be there to fill out the tournament roster.

Hey, she did display some actual competence when she fought Flare. Even if she was cheated out of a win it was a big step up from her earlier fights with her comedically stumbling every step of the way.
And heh, if you take the anime's new ending sequence at face value she'll end up destroying the entire world.

It seems this thread is mainly for the manga that I've not read but I just finished watching episode 105 and 106. Levy is all into Gajeel? Really? Also I can now see the Gildarts Shanks comparisons. I wonder if Shanks will go all super saiyan on Luffy when they meet up. Erza's my favorite character, but, Juvia got screwed in the S rank exam. I hope she dosn't get pushed into a minor character after this.

It seems the anime will have:
- More stuff about Kinana's past.
- Jiggly Butt Gang from Rave Master.
- Natsu and Romeo tag-team battle.
- Fights against the Earth Land counterparts of Hughes, Sugarboy and Coco.
- Some sort of city on the sky.
Looks promising.

Can anyone tell me if Oda has any kind of relationship with Mashima? I was on a site that had an article comparing One Piece and Fairy Tail and in the comment section some people mentioned the old rumor that they both worked under Watsuki at some point (or that Mashima worked under Oda w/e) but this was of course quickly shot down. However than people were talking about how they are actually pretty good real life friends. I had never heard that and was wondering if there is any truth to it. Anyone know?

Oda never worked with Mashima, Mashima has said as much in interviews.
I don't know about them knowing each other personally, but Mashima according to his publisher not only never worked with Eichiro Oda but never worked as an assistant at all.
Their art styles are both inspired by Akira Toriyama more than anything else.Mashima does frequent interviews whenever he's visited the states, and Q&A sessions at cons, and he's always been a bit touchy about the comparisons people make between his artwork and Oda's, probably because it happens so often.

WTF.

This particular example of Japanese work gave me a fantastic insight on the perfect anatomy of two female fictional characters known for their willingness to sexually provocate 99% of their spectators, followed by a relatively unsatisfying and one-sided confrontation between the two aforementioned female specimen resulting in a humiliating punishment for the defeated.
