Not gonna lie. That was a veeeeery good chapter. The gags were great and I was actually invested in the story for once. A shame the series isn't always like this (or even frequently).
Fairy Tail Discussion III

-
A good chapter. The plot is finally moving forward.
-
I still do not understand whether the White Knight that came into the grave in this chapter is "good" or "bad"
-
The guy was spotted maniacally chanting Zeref's name. Even if his plan is for good, he seems to have a screw or two loose somewhere and his plan seems to usher in impending doom…
Well those were two big check marks on Fairy Tail's ''To-Do'' list filled in. Heh, that dragon was a troll.
-
Finally, a good character in this series…
And we are never going to see him again. -
Back to the meat and potatoes of the story! Good!
I enjoyed this chapter! -
This was…good. Took Mashima a while to get there, but finally, dragons are in focus. I hope it lasts for a while.
Also, Zeref better snap out of his moody bishiness soon, and assume behavior fitting the "cause of all the worlds evil".
-
The chapter link… http://www.mangareader.net/fairy-tail/301/3
Oh snap, plot! And a good one, I enjoyed this chapter.
-
Great Chapter. Calling it now: The Dragon that was humanity's advocate is Lumen Historie.
-
This should have been chapter 300. This dragon was pretty cool, too bad we won't see him again.
-
Okay, this is what I expected the 300th chapter to be like. It's nice that we're finally getting some backstory about the world (something that doesn't usually happen in this series), and we've actually got an explanation as to why dragons would teach humans how to use dragon-slaying magic. Great chapter.
-
Wow, what a great chapter. It was pretty interesting to learn about the Dragon's past and Acnologia.
Somehow, I feel as if the human who became the king of dragons was actually Zeref, and when he was cursed, his negative energy turned into Acnologia (kind of like how Kami's evil half became (King) Piccolo) - as opposed to Zeref merely creating Acnologia like he did the other thousands of demons;
- That could be why he could summon Acnologia when he used his powers to kill
- Zeref did say he grew up during a period of war and killed a lot of people unintentionally (either while being a dragon slayer, or when he turned into a dragon)
- He held unimaginable power (dragon slayer power has always been #1… fuck god slayers)
- His ability to create demons stemmed from the curse that created Acnologia
- It could also be why he wished Natsu would be able to defeat him; Natsu, as a dragon slayer who loved and cherished Igneel as his own father, was a candidate that could kill the King of Dragons, Zeref
-
Emerald Dragon was priceless. Gotta love that sucker.
Regarding the rest I pretty much have to agree with the above posts. It was a great chapter filled with relevant plot, amusing gags, Lucy's sweet ass and an interesting cliffhanger. -
This should have been chapter 300. This dragon was pretty cool, too bad we won't see him again.
Yes exactly.
If this was chapter 300 then everything would have been fine. I had nothing against any chapter we have had lately, just that 300 was severely underwhelming for having to seemingly put two chapters in to stall to there.
-
That was pretty good, finally got a huge answer I wanted. Why dragons would teach "dragon slaying." Good stuff.
-
Wait….am I hearing compliments for fairy tail?! That's odd because usually it's torn to pieces. I am not saying it's amazing, its entertaining but I think people only look for its flaws. I think this arc has been particularly good and this chapter was very good. I really hope Mashima comes up with a decent way Natsu can beat Zeref and acnologia and not an ass-pull.
-
I liked how the new chapter was like all "here's interesting things about the plot! and dragons! and exposition!" and then, bam: "hey, here's Lucy's ass!"
-
Don't kill me but I actually liked this chapter, it had the right amount of humor and we are getting to the main plot, finally some information on Dragon Slayers and thats one thing I've been dying to know the entire series and thought we'd never get to it
So are Natsu and Gajeel older than we all think? I have a feeling will be meeting Natsu's father soon. Are we going to have another War?
For once I'm looking forward to the next chapter as long as we stay on track with this Dragon Slayers/Dragons plot.
Is Lucy just here for fan service?
-
Jellal is Sabo.
I think. -
Holy shit, Fairy Tail was pretty good this week. I guess the world is ending in the next days.
-

Well those were two big check marks on Fairy Tail's ''To-Do'' list filled in. Heh, that dragon was a troll.
I figure his plan to do good is his guise for his plan to do evil or he's unknowingly being mind controlled thinking he's doing good when he's really doing evil.
Him just being crazy due to his dedication would be funny by itself. Could be one of those by any means necessary type of guys.
-
I liked how the new chapter was like all "here's interesting things about the plot! and dragons! and exposition!" and then, bam: "hey, here's Lucy's ass!"
Ain't no FT without a snake-crawling-up-from-behind-with-a-camera-to-show-the-readers-Lucy's-ass shot.
-
I bet money that the final fight will end with, " friendship will always conquer evil. this is fairy tail! SUPER DUPER SECRET ULTIMATE DRAGON MODE ASS PULL FLAME KING ROARY-THE-DINOSAURY BLITZ ATTACK EX MAC 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![
-

I agree and agree and feel the same and agree and fear the same.
-
I liked how the new chapter was like all "here's interesting things about the plot! and dragons! and exposition!" and then, bam: "hey, here's Lucy's ass!"
So by that logic the big revelation this chapter wasn't the dragon king or the evil armor guy, but was in fact the fact that Lucy is wearing short shorts this week on the newest installment of "What's Lucy's Newest Revealing Outfit?"
All joking aside, though, I did really enjoy this chapter. At least to me it was way better than the SHIT last month. Not that I can forgive that fight's existence, but my interest has at least been piqued again.
-
SUDDENLY! PLOT! WUT!?
-
so looks like next week the anime is back to canon huh. or at least sting and the other one are in it
-
Wow that chapter was good
-
first time in a long time where I didn't like the chapter, not for it being ridiculously stupid, but because I just didn't like where the plot was going. So I guess it was a pretty damn good chapter then.
-
Ain't no FT without a snake-crawling-up-from-behind-with-a-camera-to-show-the-readers-Lucy's-ass shot.
It took many years to specificaly breed them for this purpose.

Can't believe how forgiving everyone is being with this chapter just because it happens to be plot centric (although i get it because its so few and far between in this manga). Sure it was a nice read and the humour was pretty good. But am i the only one who thinks the back story of the dragons is completely stupid? Certain dragons betray their own race to share their world with the food, why?!
In fact so great is their conviction that they give the secret of their own destruction to the food, thus ensuring their own extinction. Thats one thing, but what really makes it idiotic for me is that the traitorous dragons who are responsible for the extinction of their own race will somehow inevitably be presented as benevolent and wise, just because the race they are betraying their own for happen to be humans. Thats like one human looking at chickens one day and deciding that kfc is evil and we should step aside and let the chickens rule the world with us. Then when others don't agree we murder our own kind and ultimately extinguish the human race so the chickens can live on.
Sorry but this storytelling is just dumb.
By the way this is my second post here , hello everyone

I want to sig this.

I think you're taking the dialogue (which is coming from a prejudiced source, by the way) a little too literally. It should be pretty clear that the dragons who wanted to live in peace with mankind didn't see them as just snack food to begin with.

They were vegetarians :ninja:

I don't think that Humans necessarily wanted to hunt dragons to extinction, nor did Dragons intend for themselves to be wiped out. They basically wanted to create a "Cold War" or a Mexican Standoff, really. "You have nukes? Well, so do we now, buddy," that would create a peace. Granted, a high tension peace, but peace nonetheless. Acnologia is the only one that seemed to take it too far and turn it into a hunt. It only takes one bad apple, unfortunately.

You have point, but i still think teaching humans the magic to kill your whole race is pretty stupid. At least it adequately explains the dragonslayers though, so there is that.
I want to sig this.
hahaha go ahead

The fact that they didn't intend to get wiped out to me makes it more stupid. It really never occurred to the dragons that this shit might backfire horrifically? I'm not sure I could find a real world equivalent of short sightedness this profound. I thought Dragons were supposed to be wise and long lived.
(sorry for double posting, not sure how to merge with a new quote)

Dammit. The qoute's too large for my markup.
I'll find a another way to use it tho :3 -

There's plenty of real world examples. Iran's a good one. Go read up on Operation Ajax sometime and the many years of events that occurred due to it.

I guess they were "wise" just because they had a profund knowledge of the world and magic itself, not because they were smart; it's just too bad they were as stupid as humans.
You could even add to that the cliche "ancient civilization/race that was hundred years superior than the present but somehow they disappeared". It's always their own fault. -

Thanks. I will read up on it. Doesn't change the fact that the dragons should have known better.

This happens all the time in fiction, which is why we have movies like "Terminator" and "The Matrix". The twist here is that the humans are the ones that brought disaster to their higher-ups instead of being the higher-ups themselves.

I think the point is that some dragons, like Igneel, start pondering the purpose of their exist, and the existence of a weak but sentient race, and no longer see humans as food. Thus, they become "good" dragons, while other dragons who condescend on weak things continue to view humans as food, and thus are "bad" dragons.
However, having a human become Acnologia is just ridiculous on the dragons' part. Giving a human enough ability to kill you and take your power while being completely negligent about his sanity is pure foolishness. It seems Mashima is treating the story purely as a kid's (Shonen) story, so the inanity of the history doesn't matter so much.

To be fair, I don't think they expected Acnologia to become more powerful and draconic by bathing himself on Dragon's blood because that sort of thing had never happened before. It was probably impossible to predict that a Dragon Slayer could become an actual Dragon through literal bloodbaths.
Plus, it's implied that Zeref was involved in Acnologia's transformation anyway, so that's another surprise variable.
-
I don't think they expected Acnologia to become more powerful by bathing himself on Dragon's blood because that sort of thing had never happened before.
Nonetheless, one doesn't need to experience getting shot by a child to know that giving a child a gun is a bad idea. The pro-human side was really desperate to grant so much power to humans. Well, I guess pride is characteristic of dragons, and the pro-human dragons are still proud dragons.
However, the ability to consume draconic blood and power wasn't granted by the dragons probably. That's where Zeref ties in, he created a spell that allowed a dragon slayer to do that. And thus, the
DovakinDragon King was born.I wonder if Zeref wanted to destroy dragons who ate his family and friends so he created the darkest and most deadly spells and rituals in existence so that he can take revenge on dragons. In combination with a powerful dragon slayer he created the ultimate dragon killer. Unfortunately, that dragon slayer simply became an everything slayer. Typical of Zeref to create powers beyond his control? Yeah, I think that's the whole point to Zeref. He's a mage who can kill anything and creates tools and allies to help him kill anything, but loses control over everything because he didn't think things through.

Hades went on about how Zeref was the source of all magic…so maybe Dragon Slayer magic is the only kind that can destroy him because he didn't originally invent it?

Being the source of magic doesn't necessarily mean that he's immune to magic. That is, if he even is the "source of all magic". I think Mavis would wholeheartedly disagree with Hades. (I think I recall that she did)

And here I was thinking that dragon slayer magic was begin taught to the kinds of Natsu and co. so they could defeat Acnologia. Now I'm intrigued.

Sooooo… Based in current events,Dragons in Fairy Tail are not this:
But this?
IT EXPLAINS SO MUCH.
Wow, i didn´t imagine there would be so many images of Retarded Dragons in google…
