I've never been a fan of repeated cycles, so I don't know how I feel about the Don Freecs revelation and the possibility that Ging has been looking for him all this time.Although it explains what he did to Gon because maybe that's what his Dad did for him.

Gon doesn't need a Nen Exorcist like Chrollo does; no one sealed his nen away with a curse. Gon's nen is gone because he literally used it all against Pitou.
Ging told Gon that hunters are selfish people, so I doubt Ging cares much about finding his dad. If anything, he just wants to know what his dad found.
No, Killua's father is Zeno not Zzigg. Zzigg could be Zeno's father/uncle or a Zoldyck from Maha's era.
It's easier to control people being the number 2 than the number 1 when you're new to the group. Everyone would reject you if you became their main leader. So you start as number 2 and hold the number 1 position hostage and take it over for any time when it's convenient. Or by not being the leader he can escape unnoticed since it's not his expedition per se.

The likes of Netero were shitting themselves. Gon without nen is hopeless, they'd be better off sending Zushi. If it's the cure he needs, Kurapica, Leorio or even Ging can just do this for him.
Also unless the cure is somehow included in the East book or if Ging managed to glimpse it in the ongoing West book, they are in no position to go "hunting" for the cure. If they find it (and I believe they will) it will most likely be by accident.

You're correct on him being the same Netero we knew, but it's not a translation problem (it was written like that in the raw). It's just Togashi very shitty skills in romanization.
That's how you end up with unpronounceable crap like Quwrof Wrlccywrlir(Chrollo Lucilfer), Chzzok(Shizuku),Phalcnothdk (Pakunoda). -

If we hadn't been explicitly told that he only started drawing a couple weeks ago, and the first preview wasn't just scribbles, I'd believe he'd actually been working during the break.
But as is, I assume he simply FINALLY got assistants. He's got backgrounds in nearly every panel, which he has NEVER done, and they're more detailed than what he ever did on his own. Sure he'd draw a cool background shot here and there once in a while as an establishing shot at the start of a scene, but never at this level, never this often… and there's no way he's pulling off that much detail in a week on his own.
So I think his editors (or the anime?!?) finally insisted he get an assistant or three so he could actually stick to schedule. We'll have a better idea if the anime announces a filler arc after the election.
As a result I'm actually kinda more optimistic about it continuing than I've been in a long time. Which I know is just setting myself up for disappointment in 6-16 weeks.

i really hope that we get some creepy insidious parasite stuff that invades people's bodies and then proceeds to burst out xenomorph style
the big giant monsters thing is cool but I'm more interested in all these viruses and parasitic plants Togashi has described. would love to see everyone camping and then suddenly one guy gets up in the night and just starts hacking everyone to pieces and feasting on their organs because he's under the influence of some worm in his brain or something.
also hoping to see the entire mission just get completely fucked very very early on, leaving groups or 2 or 3 to remain and huddle in the woods for safety

One of the other creators mentioned it in their author notes for the week. It was posted earlier in this thread. And… the first preview was scribbles, if they had anything better they would have used it.
Actually, if he has assistants now, (and those backgrounds really, really make me think he does) it bodes great. Someone in the office to motivate and keep on top of him, and keep him away from the nitty gritty of production that destroys his work ethic? Someone else's livelihood dependant on him?

Best chapter till now, at least I got to understand it (mostly) with the panda translation alone.
It's still an expo fest, and Kurapika is sasukeing a bit (with some dignity, but still), but the exposition this time around managed to be more exciting and hyping than the last chapters (honestly, they way people were going crazy bananas from seeing politicians talk about risk-gain-wathever is beyond me). I'm about to say "bring it on", but still a bit weary.
DC looks good, though.
And, if I understood correctly (which I guess I didn't?), the 5 calamities are like 5 guardians of the DC natural treasures?

I'm looking at it more and more and just… the amount of backgrounds, the consistency and level of detail of them, the designs, the use of ziptone and screen tone patterns, the style of inking on some of the effects like water... none of it is Togashi's usual style.
I hadn't looked too closely the last couple weeks because my investment level is so low and I just expect it to go right back to break but... taking time to really look at it... he's almost certainly getting assistance now.

Well, between the anime, and Naruto probably ending this year, there might be more pressure on him than there used to be to actually produce.
But yeah, just look at it.
Has Togashi EVER used hatching effects like that before? Let alone consistently for pages at a time? And screentone? And the actual line weight and quality are different from his lines too. The streight line shading on the background is finer and more consistent than the same shading technique on the seat cushions.Look at the panels that are like ocean waves, or just blades of grass. They look totally different from Togashi's stuff. (And especially that two page spread looks crazy different… while the very next page has more typical Togashi dust and trees and shading)

I mean I guess its possible after his break Togashi is feeling super crazy energized and is pulling 20 hour days and using new techniques that he hasn't in his 25 year career and consistently doing backgrounds that are as detailed as his very best handful of panels over the years with a different line quality and switching inking styles between panels when its just solid backgrounds…
or he's using assistants now.
If he's just feeling motivated he'll burn out fast and we're getting 20 chapters tops. If he's actually got help finally? There's a chance he won't take a long break for a while AND the art quality will remain high. (Damn optimism...)

Its also kinda funny, how excited people are right now (myself included), compared to the time before the series resumed. Noone really had high hopes for the coming arc. And nobody would have believed, that the art actually improved. Now Togashi just has to surprise us with the length of time he can do that without going back to hiatus.

Assistants aren't generally credited publicly. Partly because their tasks will vary and because they'll change out regularly… Partly to keep it a secret just how much help an author is getting... and to present it as a cohesive single author vision. (Hell, people still think Muira doesn't use assistants on Berserk.)
American comics almost never credit fill in colorists who pitch in and do a couple pages if a colorist is falling behind, for instance... unless they do the entire issue.
There ARE ways of finding out and knowing, and sometimes the fine print in the trades will list names... but usually you only find out assistants after they've moved onto their own work and talk about their prior career.
