By my memory, the last time Kite's body was shown is when Gon dragged Pitou all the way out to where ever they had him, and Pitou told Gon that he was already dead.

Yeah…The Ant reincarnation is a bit confusing. I can't even clearly remember where we last saw his body either. I have a vague image in my head of Gon seeing it. But that could be way off.
Pitou had taken apart his body and turned it into, like, a puppet or something. It was seeing this that drove Gon over the edge and made him go Super Saiyan.
On a unrelated note, has anyone else noticed that during the opening, it looks like Pitou has breasts? Here I was thinking Pitou was supposed to be male.
I always thought of Pitou as a chick, I never understood where people got the idea that she was a dude besides the 'No females in HunterxHunter'
And I'm really impressed with the animators since their source material for this episode was this mess:
http://www.mangahere.com/manga/hunter_x_hunter/v18/c187/
Seriously looks like pre-storyboard stuff.
But it is all fixed in the volumes. Madhouse is probably using the volumes as reference, not this.
Seriously, just because looks feminine and has breasts, that automatically means they're a girl?
Some people are so narrow-minded.
I assume in the anime Pitou is also going to have a cat-girly voice just to confuse things further.
It would be awesome if Pitou had a crazy deep voice. Kinda like Dr. Girlfriend has but less raspy.

Having taken four years of Spanish, you'd think I would've caught on to that quicker, but there it is.
Pitou's doll joints were weird…I could understand if they were insectoid...But was the Queen nibbling on toys? And how long does genetic material sit around in her womb? I think it's a bit weird that during the feast of humans she still ate stuff like cats and butterflies.

Yeah, that was source of a lot of confussion reading the spanish scanlations.
I mean, Colt dialog with the other ant was like:
"I must protect the queen! I must protect…. queen"
"queen?"
"What are you talking about?"
"You just said queen, who is queen?"
(all of it in spanish, of course)
It took me a while to realise that Reina was the name of the little girl and Colt wasn't talking about the queen of the chimera ants.

I had to check the opening again just for this.
…. it's true
Wish madhouse was more careful. It's like they saw the catgirl theme and made him a girl without bothering to get a closer look at Pitou. (s)he has a flat chest in the manga. Well it's not much of an issue anyways.
As far as I can tell, only the queen and the king have the ability to reproduce.
The queen is asexual as "she" reproduces on her own. Taking the genes of other organisms doesn't count as mating.
The king is male only because he can forcefully mate with a female of another species.
Everyone else is a soldier. The have no reproduction abilities and therefore no gender. Even that other queen with the ability to mutate people into slaves, because that doesn't count as reproduction.
Strictly speaking Pitou is genderless.
I'm not denying Pitou's femininity, how we perceive him as female or the fanservice potential. (and not discussing this part further because it's been done before)

I believe that one specific ant and Kaito had the potential to be future queens.
Pitou is a male ant with cat/female human features, how hard is it to understand that ? The Chimera ants assimilate the form of prey they eat, so it's just an ant who assimilated the form of both a female human and cat.
I never got all the confusion around here, i would understand if it was Kurapika or the Zoldyck familly but those are ants.

Guess I'll go ahead with that killing spree after all.
Well, it's the most fundamental truth for all life: if you're born, you will die - unless you're a jellyfish.
That being said, the real deaths of characters on screen makes the story more realistic; rather than random fodder, Togashi chose to kill off people Gon took the Hunter exam with. This shows the real danger of being a Hunter that is often overlooked with the passing of two children - since Gon and Killua have passed the test, you just assume being a Hunter is no big deal (even if they're prodigies). Even Illumi and Hisoka took the test just out of convenience. Then with nen and the battle tower thing and Chrollo and Bomber and his gang blowing shit up you think that being a pro Hunter is some kiddy shit cuz half these people aren't hunters.
But then you see Ponzu and that other guy die during a mission and you think: oh, being a Hunter is actually hardcore shit that'll kill you; the Spiders, Zoldycks, Hisokas, Bombers, etc. are just exceptions and most Hunters will die from their line of work.
So I have no problem with Togashi killing people off - in fact I applaud his choice to do so - so long as their deaths add something substantive to the story. He's already said, assuming the manga eventually continues, that all the Spiders die by the conclusion. That being said, if he's going to kill off fan favourites, they better be some amazing deaths.

WHen did you get the impression that the people in GI weren't pro hunters? I always assumed most of them had the license, since you needed at least a baseline proficiency in Nen to enter the game, and even more so when you consider that they wouldn't hire people unless they could prove to be even further above that level.. And later on, they pretty much said most hunters are incredibly weak compared to the big guns and try to minimize risks as temp hunters. Honestly, I doubt the guy who died was really much stronger than the weak hunters in GI.
@x20a: Granted, they were facing a really severe and unusual threat. And I feel as though Kite's death accomplished all that and more anyway.
Anyway, I've just been loving some of the fan reactions to the most recent episode.

! > But… But I thought kids are not allowed to be killed in anime…!! Not even Fist of the North Star was able to do it…!!
! > holy crap I'm gonna have nightmares
! > Those kids, that was a bit brutal from Togashi, still wondering why this show is a shounen rated PG-13

! > Eating kids? In my morning show!? NOW THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!….
They have to consider moving this anime to an evening slot

! > I was happy when they were eaten.
! > ok if things like that keep happening I might need to skip this arc or run the risk of disliking this show…seriously they made it so personal too. Would have been better if they left it impresonal and just had her eat random people.

Well, the manga did start out in the 90s and most people who read it probably started in the mid to late twenty first century, so there's plenty of people who's probably never even heard of Hunter x Hunter that only got into anime and manga in the last few years.

I assumed a good number of people weren't Hunters simply because:
- Not everyone who played GI was hired by someone
- People who hired players didn't only hire Hunters
- You don't need to be a Hunter to use Nen
I had assumed pretty much everyone playing was a hired Hunter. That game was crazy expensive and rare and the old man was buying multiple copies for Archangel's Breath.
The ironic thing about the kids dying is years later when Togashi finally finished the arc we found out that both kids lived on. One even returned home
Even more ironic is as these anime-only viewers are shocked by the "death" of these kids, one of them appears again, alive/reborn, at the very end of the same episode that is disturbing everyone. You just don't know it till much later on

Still, it's pretty fucked up the kids had to go through that at all. Anyone reading the manga or anime and seeing that scene for the first time would probably be pretty damn shocked.
And actually, I think they dropped the hint that Colt has Kurt's memories pretty early on (like, maybe in the next episode?)

Berserk wasn't shounen, never was presented to be a children's book, it's not really comparable.
I can most certainly see why seeing it in HxH is more disturbing than something running in you know, Young Animal.
I just think many people did not read the manga because the art sucks, that´s all
Well, it's the most fundamental truth for all life: if you're born, you will die - unless you're a jellyfish.
Actually, even those biologically immortal jellyfish can die to predators and disease. They're only really immortal in carefully controlled captivity.
