I don't know if Togashi will be alive to finish the manga…
Hunter x Hunter II

Not surprising at all about the hiatus but one chapter into a new arc what the fuck?!?! Beyond, Zodiacs, New World, Pariston, maybe another set of Zodiacs all in one chapter and it's bleeping over.
-
Really? I mean really, another one? I know it should be expected, but not when there's actually an anime running that's returning the popularity of the series. What do they think, the anime will actually catch up to this manga? XP

I hope it doesn't catch up to the Manga one day. Although its way too early to be worrying about it, maybe once it reaches the ant arc and there's another hiatus going on is when we can start to sweat

The new world aka america is hardly Original. It's reference for a new world, and Togashis fits "world" part better than one piece which happens to be new ocean.
What an odd chapter, trust togashi to do this properly, I'm glad if he is taking break to fix up on the story.
So the application and requirements jin mentioned are these put up by the nations, since the "disaster" that going over there brings was already brought when the ants came, wouldn't it make these laws put by five nations pointless?
I'm assuming what one of the zodiacs said is correct and that this is a nation that decided to cut ties as clearly there are ways to travel there and for them to come and has been for hundreds of years.
-
I was seriously getting into this chapter thinking about what's going to happen then BAM, the hiatus announcement. Such a rapid shift of emotion I couldn't do anything but laugh. Glad I'm not the only one.
Here's some advice from a long time fan: Forget about the manga. Assume it's never coming back. It'll save you alot of grief.
I've been following the series through all of it's hiatuses. Don't lump me in as a new fan going through my first hiatus
-
Oh, woe is us, there's a Hiatus! I can't belive it!
Fun while it lasted, at least we finaly left the Ants arc behind.
-
Chapter was ok I guess.
I liked the "Netero's son" guy's design but his crew looks pretty stupid-looking. (Aside from Pariston of course!)
Also it's a little strange that the new world seems to be basic knowledge in the HxHverse when it hasn't been brought up once before. Like I just assumed it was classified hunter/government information.Anyway seeing the Zodiacs in battle, whenever that may be drawn, is going to be sweet.
-
Beyond Netero looks like he came straight out of Sangokushi.
That said, good chapter. Hiatuses suck and all, but I can honestly say that I don't care at this point. I'm used to it, and he'll be back eventually so there's no point in bitching about it.
-

Good to know. I don't want anyone going though the week by week waiting hell I went through. Now it's time to Kokoro this shit.
….......
.............
HxH manga? Dude, there's only the anime. -
You guys think that the chapter that resumes HxH will be a continuance chapter from this previous one?
-
That's how it's always been, so I see no reason to expect differently this time.
-
^^Of course, lol. Why the hell would it not?
-
I just caught up with the episodes 21 and 22. Good stuff, although I don't think much really changed. At least nothing notable. I had completely forgotten about Mike. I love the design of that dog, just so creepy, yet I really want one lol.
-
I loved that double pager with Beyonds crew all of those new character designs looked awesome!
-
I did not notice Paristo being there last time O_O
-
I want to reread the Netero vs Meryem part, anyone knows exactly when does it start in the manga?
-
chapter 288.
-
Thanks, Netero is still amazing. He got a phone call presumably from the V5 to eradicate the ants immediately. I think they know that they're from the Dark Continent.
-
Am I the only one who thinks the dark continent is completely unrelated to the other world Ging talked about? Because from what I read the dark continent is just an unexplored continent, so it wouldn't make sense that a full grown world tree or something like that would help you get there
-
Since people from this forum were kind enough to promote and discuss my article on the 2010 hiatus in the last iteration of this thread, I thought it would be worth de-lurking to inform you that I've written an article on this latest hiatus:
Another Hiatus for Hunter x Hunter
The article examines the plot developments of the last 30 chapters, and, like last time, features some interesting statistics regarding all the time Togashi has missed. (Just in case, please be aware that the article also contains spoilers for chapters 311-340.)
On a more personal note, I seriously hope this hiatus won't last as long as the last one. I'm excited to see where the new plot is going from here, so this break comes at an awful time.

KochiKame, which began in Issue 42, 1976, has still never missed a single week.
HOW CAN HE DO THAT?
-

The tree doesn't get you there. They are the same place. The tree would just be full-sized in the new world.
-
Kochikame is a 19 pages manga or is it shorter?
Because if it is a 19 one, Akimoto is a monster. -
HOW CAN HE DO THAT?
1. Its a gag series rather than an ongoing story, so he can stockpile story ideas, and even entire chapters in advance.
2.He doesn't have to orchestrate fight scenes or balance a large cast in any given chapter.
3.Good work ethic.
4.Lots of assistants.
5.Once you've gotten a streak for 20 years, you damn well keep it going. Since he's been drawing it for nearly 40 years, he can probably do the characters straight in ink and they only take him a couple seconds to draw.

I understand that, but how can he not get sick or anything for so many years?
I agree on number 4, though. And sorry about the off-topic.

I agree on number 4, though.Like I said, because its a gag manga, he can stockpile chapters in advance. When its an ongoing series you pretty much have to just do the chapters in order, but with gag series you can use any characters in any situation you want.
And an artist with that much experience can probably do 19 pages in 3 days without much trouble. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he regularly did two chapters a week or had an advance stockpile of several chapters.

Nice article KizoFieva, but I don't agree with the Gon meeting with his father equals to Luffy's and Naruto's goal. In fact, the latter two are not comaparable either. While becoming the Pirate King demands that one should be the strongest pirate around with a highly capable crew plus posessing the essential knowledge to reach One Piece, so that implies when Luffy finally reaches this goal, he'll be one of, if not the strongest pirate living with a very strong crew. This will happen at the end of the series (if he will actually do it), because after that, there is nothing "higher" goal to reach.
In Naruto, being a Hokage doesn't require one to be the strongest around. Naruto could easily become a Hokage based on his strength long time ago. We can't say that he isn't respectable now either, because he saved Konoha singlehandedly against Pein. So he practically reached his goal, we're just waiting for Tsunade's death or resignation now. That's why there's no real goal now in Naruto, besides defeat the bad guys.
In HxH, Gon's goal was just a concept. "To be able to meet with my father". Of course it was hinted that Gon has to be capable enough to reach him, but Gon made it in the Ant arc. Kaito (his role model) couldn't meet with Gin and Gon surpassed Kaito when defeated the enemy Kaito couldn't (he mentioned too). This was a milestone in Gon's career, but no larger than learning Nen for example. There's much room to improve now, because I'm pretty sure he wants to earn Gin's admiration or go to adventures with him. So yeah, from now on it could go the Naruto way, so there won't be any goals, we'll just go with the flow, or Gon will set a new goal to himself.
-
To be clear, my comparison of those goals was looking at each of them strictly at the beginning of each of their respective series, and how they served as motivation for those protagonists to begin their adventures. Certainly, the way those goals have evolved over time is vastly different, as are the circumstances surrounding their actual achievement. As the original impetus for each of them to go on their journeys, though, I do consider them to serve the same role. From that point on, that original goal is less relevant to the actual characters themselves, because they obviously have a variety of pressing matters at hand, and more relevant to the audience, whose connection to those characters was formed because of that original goal. The greater point I was trying to make is that, even if the meeting between Gon and Ging wasn't uncharacteristic of either of them, the way the meeting took place somewhat betrayed our expectations as readers that we've had since the beginning of the series.
Anyway, I really appreciate your feedback. Thanks for the compliment, and thanks for reading!
-
thanks kizofieva. i haven't read your summary of 311-340 yet, but i just want to say i like reading your chapter reviews

Did anyone translate Togashi's author comment?
-
Thank you very much, chikkychappy!
Marcello, this was translated by Bomber D Rufi from the MangaHelpers forums:
朗報 巻末コメント
TOC comment: Good news.ヒキがヒキなので早めに戻ってきたいです。
I'd like to return pretty soon.短い休載で有ってくれ!!
Please let it be a short hiatus!!30巻は4/4発売
Volume 30 on April 4th. -
Just read the chapter. Knowing Togashi, he won't miss a chance to draw a horrible nation-wide tragedy. And nice to know that dark continent, be it outer world, or some other part of it, is not that hidden. It's simply non-mentioned and prohibited for entry. And I thought it was an enermous conspiracy.
The way the map was presented, I won't be surprised if continent is all around human world - a 'little' archipelago of continents in inland ocean.
Ging, most likely, is interested in opportunity to travel, not Beyond Netero. -
Thank you very much, chikkychappy!

Volume 30 on April 4th.Sounds like he's just taking time off to be able to clean up the volume chapters. I guess this is indeed good news.
-
Not surprised, not disappointed, just hopeful this break won't last too long. I think this was an awesome run. He clearly deserves a break.
I'll shift all my attention to One Piece once again now. -
Oh shit…I just saw the disney's mad hatter, one piece's chopper and Mr. 4, Popeye, and DB GT's robo in that recent chapter. Looks so similar. XD
-
Definitely Popeye was the best out of them.
-
Episode 23 came out today and it was quite nice. I think Madhouse benefited from the 300 chapter gap because you can clearly see a silhouette of current manga Alluka and the Kalluto design seen from Chimera Ant arc (was it the same in Greed Island?) instead of her ultra girly initial design.
About the hiatus, y'know what? I'm not really that pissed off to be honest. I mean really the ant arc is fully resolved, the election plot was finished and Togashi is essentially starting a whole new story line when he comes back. We've still got the anime to watch for now and I may be a tad optimistic here but I don't think Togashi will go on another 14 month break due to the new adaption, no more 13 volume long continuity filled story to finish up and basically full control to go any direction with his story right now. That being said does anyone know if Madhouse are producing the Hunter X Hunter anime continuously or are they working in 24 episode seasons like other Madhouse franchise Kaiji?
-
Wait who's that between Maha and Killua ?
-
Wait who's that between Maha and Killua ?
The Zoldyck grandmother. She hasn't even appeared in the manga yet! Togashi is definitely giving Madhouse notes.
A lot of people complain about the hiatuses and such, but HxH is a different kind of shonen series than most other Jump publications. Togashi's story is high-quality, sure. But he tries to be artistic in a way that you won't find in mainstream manga (unless he's trying to directly mimic the tone of a mainstream manga series, i.e. Beyond Netero's similar demeanor to Luffy). If I'm getting that kind of experience from it, I don't mind waiting a few months to read it.
If you're looking for something new to read in order to fill the gaping void in your life left by the weekly promise of new Hunter x Hunter chapters, try the Soul Eater manga (NOT the anime). It's a series in the same vein (but with more action/fanservice).

You guys remind me. I realy wanna see more of Maha.
I just do.

Same. The fact that when we saw that diagram thing, the one showing all the relationships of the Zoldyck family, and Maha seemed to be pretty distant from the everyone else, that intruiged me.
Plus, I always imagined him being some sort of Yoda type character.

Well given his age, that sort of thing is not realy surprising. Interestingly enough, looking at the Zoldyck's, we have a clear line spanning 3 generations of the family and then a gap between Zeno and Maha. I always wondered what was up with that.

Yeah, he's probably just a lonely old man who gets his jollies through assasination.
That too, hopefully it'll get addressed in the future. Although with the amount of time it took for Togashi to reveal just what was up with Alluka, we might be waiting for a while. -

If Togashi makes him as crazy as Netero was, I'll be happy.

Me too, I've been anticipating some character development for him since we first saw him in York New. Besides, he is a Zoldyck. They got some extra crazy in dem bones.
-
Looking up the wiki, apparently he was originaly supposed to be Zeno's father, but Togashi seems to have changed that later on. Any idea if this is true ?
-
Time for Hxh to go back to hibernation in my mind lol. Tower of God is all I need atm anyway.
-
He will punch Gon's mom in the face.
Not sure if I'm understanding you right. Ging didn't erase the tape at that moment, he set the Nen up so that it would erase the tape after it was listened to.
Togashi was sick. And it already got a bit better last chapter.
Thanks! That explains a lot. Including the story and everything.
