Any Superior Dub Voices?

Waddya think, are there any Dub Voices that are better than the Japaneese One's? Personally I think Nami & Zoro's are better in the Dub.

Merry's was cute because they put that little 'baaa' in his speech. x3 I liked that alot.

I like Smoker's voice. It seems to be the best representation of the character so far (if you can get past the random smoke coming out of his mouth).

I don't know if I could think of a voice that is more superior then the original. Kaya's voice is up there, since it sounded a lot like the original, and was really good. Gaimon's voice was really good, I'd take it over the Japanese voice if I had to, but that's about it.

I like Smoker's voice, and Zoro's. Don Krieg's voice wasn't too bad either.

Of the main characters, Zoro and Nami are OK.
Some of the minor characters are good, like Nojiko, Gaimon, Dalton (so far), Mr. 5, most of the Baroque Works are decent. Some people really like Smoker (Chaser), but I don't. I didn't like Kaya either. I'm one of the overly critical ones, I guess. Very few have impressed me much.

Nobody is superior to the Japanese voices. Some maybe comparable, but not better.

eh if we can count not just the 4kids dub, i'd like to say i much prefer the luffy and chopper in the german dub to the japanese voices of them

Well this is no OP but in Yu-gi-oh I think the dub Pegasus is A LOT better than the japanese voice!! Seriously he sounds so annoying and irratating

I think you guys put too much into original, Original doesn't necisarally (sp.) mean better, the real Original One Piece was the Manga where there were no voices, & I believe that Nami & Zoro's Dub Voice better fit that Manga Charcter.

Really? o_O I heard Luffy and Chopper in the German dub, and I thought they were pretty bad. I liked Usopp and Sanji in German, though. Not better than Japanese, but much better than the English dub.

I really don't like how Buggy sounds in the original… It's too deep and not funny enough. At least for me. Like I said this is the only voice I like over the original. The rest are either equal to or worse.

I like how Buggy's voice gets all high and squeeky when he's mad (in Japanese). His English voice was alright, but I didn't like it when they put that wierd effect on his voice when he got really angry.

Eh, I'd have to disagree here, I have yet to hear a dub voice that sounds better then the Japanese voices. Just personal opinion, I suppose.

No, in this case, the dub just really sucks. XD

There are a lot of anime that I watch in which I really like the English dub. I prefer the English dub of Cowboy Bebop and GitS Stand Alone Complex. I love Vash's English voice. The actors in One Piece are sub-par, and in a lot of cases they are horribly mis-cast. Sanji and Usopp, for starters. I think Nami and Zoro are OK in the dub in terms of acting, but I still don't think their voices fit all that well. I would never imagine that voice coming out of Zoro's mouth.

Really? Actually I liked it when they put the double up effect when Buggy said like one or two words, but not when they put it in a whole speech. I don't know… I just like his voice cause it's humorous. It didn't feel the same with the original voice to me. I didn't like it when they gave the Mermen double up effects though... There they killed it.

O.K., honestly the original Buggy's actor (Shigeru Chiba)

is one of my most favorite VA, Period.=)

Any other Japanese VA I know just can't imitate that squeaky voice,
and including the other series he's in, he sometimes even does ad-lib which
isn't on the original script.

For example:
-His lines after Zoro lifted the cannon at Buggy's direction (but maybe hard to recognize through sub…)
-Compare a line that he shouts back after Luffy says "What are you, stupid?"(Ep8) with the manga
-And those snorty noises he makes when he's overwhelmed.

I think those weren't on the script in a first place…

Seriously though, I've seen enough of the 4Kids dub to get a fair impression of the voices and while Zoro's VA is okay, uhh, I'm about 98% sure he's the same guy who did Minase in Bible Black and I really don't like that train of thought :laugh: Besides, Zoro's not supposed to sound like a hung guy in his thirties. He's nineteen after all. I think Kazuya pins it really well (specially for it practically being his first anime role).

Eccch I dunno. Marc Diraison is good but the aforementioned Bible Black thing just kinda makes you grimace when you hear it with Zoro.

Although I do like his original voice more than his dub, Zoro's original voice doesn't sound 19 either. To me he sounds older.

Aside from the laugh I like Luffy's voice better in the dub.
It just sounds more like a male voice.

Zoro's is the best in the dub.
Kuro's, Smoker's and Kaya's are OK.

Usopp is comparable with the original but the treatment of his character is daft.

Shank's isn't bad (though his accent is a bit indecisive)

That's about it for the good stuff.

Except that Zoro doesn't sound 19 much in the original either. Don't get me wrong, his voice rocks and is better than the American version. But it really doesn't sound any younger than his dub voice.

Absolutely none.

Of all of them, Nami's and Zoro's voices are my favorites, but neither of those surpasses the original. I've met the actress and actor, they're cool people who I do like. Zoro's english voice is extremely cool and good for the character. However, his Japanese voice has a sexier tone to it that I prefer. But they are both definitely good.

Nami on the other hand, while her voice is good in some moments, I do not think can get the emotion across. Part of this is the fact that the dub is cut to ribbons, but even in places where it is not, she still doesn't show Nami's emotional side very well, and comes across as sounding fake to me. I like her playful, mischevious, and devious Nami, I think the english voice actor does a good job with that, but she is not good at the emotional moments. And to me, those are the most important ones.

Just my two cents. You're all entitled to your own opinion, but that's mine…and it's not gonna change.

Well, I disagree. His Japanese voice is just more gruff and definately more unique. I can picture a 19 year sounding like that.

Oh another dub voice I loved was Gaimon. He sounded like Mr.T but it suited him. Also Sanji's is good.....

I don't really think a lot of the voices in the original sound their age (especially Luffy, maybe not Nami and Robin), but that's just me.

I don't care so much about whether they sound their age or not as whether or not they fit the character and whether the VA can ACT. Some people in RL don't sound their age. I.E. Chopper's VA is actually in her 40's and Luffy's is in her 50's. But they fit the characters.

yeah I have to agree, it seems like more kids are sounding (and looking) more mature then what they actually are. Hell I see kids that are 15 with beards and sound like 20 year old males then when I was 15. Is there like something in Coke thats making everybody grow or something?

Or maybe Zoro when he was a kid liked to smoke a lot.

Yah I agree with CosmicDebris, Sanji's dub voice is much lower and horribly worser than Zoro will ever be. And Zoro sounds more like 25 in the original and 30 in the dub IMO

They're similar in pitch, but that's it. And incidentally, I think dub Sanji sounds like a 20 year old.
