Ike and Oscar have had ups and downs since the beginning but Boyd has been a team player from day one. Beastly strength, 20+ speed, a respectable defense….if there's one unit I can always count on (besides Astrid), it's him

Actually it was Ilyana Bolting -> Jill doubles -> Mia finishes him off.
Chapter 23: Well this map was very annoying. I suuuuure love multiple ballista ranges. The silly hole mechanic was a pain in the ass too, but luckily there's an upside - it prevents enemies from charging all at once in a straight line. Had to reset a few times due to ballista killing Jill/Reyson, but eventually I pulled it off. Petrine was more tanky than I had expected but she wasn't impossible to beat. All the green units even lived, too.
Chapter 24: Big map, but once you eliminate the enemies at the start it's mostly slim pickings. Marcia DID almost die due a ballista strike, good thing the bow paladin missed after. Rhys continues to be slow as balls, but Jill managed to swipe Nihil (who I assigned to Mia)
Chapter 25: Boulders fall into the category of "kinda interesting gimmick, but mostly annoying", like the holes. Left side ended up taking out more of the enemies due to the right's narrow path slowing down Oscar and Mist. The boss stupidly moved into Soren's death range.
And now we're on chapter 26, which looks to be a bigger gauntlet of foes. Since the game is so generous to allow 19(?!) units, Tanith, Lucia, Geoffrey, Bastion, and Haar can take the field as respectiable prepromotes to help out. Elincia is frail as all hell though, and even after, I don't have much BEXP left. Still, Amiti + Rescue will be handy.
Also Mist is one rank away from using that Sonic Sword, but holy hell, Ike is level 20/11, yet has 15 magic vs. 20 strength. He really wants to be a wizard. Speed and defense are very good tho.
The bridge is the worst map in PoR, which is of course why it's the only returning map in RD (coming with bonus annoyance, the dumbass Shine Barriers).
The Bridge is one of those maps that bring forth the worst of Vietnam flashbacks, lemme tell you.
Guys I am stumped, but let me explain the ""damage"" up to this point.
[hide]Chapter 26 = kinda chill chapter, mostly just baiting with Ike/Astrid/Boyd, and using whatever EXP to get Elincia some levels. Siege assholes made me annoyed, but Ilyana and Bastian paid them back in turn. Thank god I put the boots on Ike for an easy seize.
Chapter 27 = last stretch of treasure, divide and conquer. A feral tiger one rounded Soren on the first attempt, but that's because I didn't trade his Bolting away. Killed the siege assholes (again), got Resolve, everything's solid.
Except everything was NOT solid. First things first, I accidently sent a Physic to the convoy when I wanted it on Mist. And all this time, I thought you could score the Wrath+Resolve combo on Ike before BK.
….nope.
And because I'm an idiot who didn't quite understand Occult scrolls, I was Aether-less.
In hindsight I could've restarted and equipped it on the base, but that would involve getting rid of Ike's Wrath forever. To make matters worse, mine was still strength screwed, having a underwhelming 21 strength (and again, 15 magic) to battle the Black Knight. I was doing single digit numbers of damage, I got into Wrath mode once, but Ike missed! From there, I was terrified I'd eat a Luna to a face, so I kept healing with Mist.
Yeah, turns out there's a time limit on this whole mission. Before I could even consider escaping, Nasir finishes up for us. ….it feels so wrong to not kill him with Ike, like when you don't use Joshua to kill Caellach.
Anyways....chapter 28 was a little tough, but mainly because of surprise surprise, a siege asshole and beefy Dragons. Tibarn is 2 gud, so he helped a ton.
Now endgame.
Well, I decided to just split up the group, right? After some time, everyone groups around the center (where Ike struggled a bit with the surprisingly durable Bryce), and Ashnard goes all "lol I'm moving now". Great, awesome, the final clash!
…..Ike does 4 goddamn damage with Ragnell. Which he heals back on his turn! And turns out his AI does not prioritize Ike,no no, he swooped and offed Ena. So this means I have to keep everyone far far away to hold his attention? Luckily he lacks Luna, so I have to pray Wrath and Resolve can fix this. I don't think it's possible to have this battle be unwinnable, no?
And no, Ike's almost capped, so BEXP isn't going to correct it, not that I have any left. [/hide]

I guess I have to aggro him with a wounded Ike to try to finish it up fast. You really don't want Ashnard flying aroun to ruin your day.
Ashnard and the Black Knight seem designed around the assumption that Ike has Aether (or you picked Giffca).
Finished Shadows of Valentia, the main story that is. Final Boss was a tad tricky. My mages could deal a crapton of damage but they couldn't handle the counterattack. Luckily, I managed to lure him to attack Genny's crappy summons instead.
Might just be one of my favorite Fire Emblem. The characters have enough personality to make them distinct from one another and the support conversations actually felt natural.
Trying to get through the bonus dungeon now. It gets unbearably hard after the halfway point but it has some very interesting lore.

So the strategy was to move everyone in the middle while Astrid/Boyd/Oscar choked the points, leaving Marcia and Jill to pick off stragglers and Soren/Ilyana to carve a path forward. After the dragons and paladins, it was time to get into position.
Everyone hightailed it out of there while Ike moved into Ashnard's range, one attack put him into Wrath+Resolve range, suddenly he's doing 32 damage per turn instead of 4.
Phase 2, picked Tibarn (actually wasn't paying attention, I wanted Giffca), but most of the work boiled down to Ike and a lucky crit. Mist kept him healthy, and each Ashnard attack just put him back into God Mode. GG.
And thus, the adventure comes to a close.
REALLY enjoyed this game, easily one of my fav FEs, and probably has my favorite story atm. Difficulty felt like FE7, not the toughest I've faced but not easy mode throughout. I will definitely do another run with alternate picks some time in the future, but not now, since I just beat it.
Now to buckle down and finish Echoes, and hopefully next month I can track down a copy of Radiant Dawn!

Anybody tried the Tempest battles in Heroes yet? I was so close yet so far.
Tch, I'm stuck with Deen now because I didn't realize you could only recruit one or the other. I would've preferred Sonya since I already have plenty of Myrmidons and could've used another Mage to supplement Boey's "eh"-ness.
I also made the genius move of attacking Sonya's army and Grieth's Citadel while both were reinforced, so on the former I had to make a bunch of resets thanks to being on the wrong side of Excalibur and Witch crits, and on the latter I was faced with like a trillion guys even before the Cantor started summoning stuff. It literally took me over an hour of cautious playing as I turtled up and whittled his forces down bit by bit. I was concerned about Grieth being a Dread Fighter, but as it turned out Valbar could easily tank him and heal off the damage with a Blessed Ring.

! FINALLY beat the endgame map. I lost Valbar and Zeke in the process but I'm sorry, I was not gonna restart this painful map anymore. You guys served me very well.

! Woohoo! Fir joins the team!
! Had issues leveling her up though. The pirate reinforcements seemed meant for her, but the dumbasses kept attacking Deke, Noah and Chad instead of Fir. It wasn't until I cleaned out the poison axe dudes that I was able to manufacture a situation where Noah was next to Fir and the hand axe guys would try to hit him, putting themselves right in front of Fir who was standing in the forest-of-impossible-hits.
And then to boot I figured it'd be poetic justice if the Wo Dao killed Scott, so I did that and it actually worked! Set him up with Lilina and Lugh though, just to be safe.
! Now, what really was awesome was that other units are beginning to rock it. Noah, who I trained just for the purposes of supporting Fir, is becoming a goddamn beast. He was critting every other hit somehow. Oujay was also doing phenomenally, and at one point I had him weaken pirates to then be finished off by Sue or, surprisingly, Wendy.
Which is the real surprise to me. I figured I'd let Wendy javelin weak enemies for chump exp. And it worked! She hit every. single. time. Went up from level 8 to level 12, passing Lilina, SOMEHOW. Now she's doubling people. Kinda awesome.
! So yea, for this chapter it was pretty much all Oujay, Wendy, Sue, Noah and Fir getting trained. Roy still sucks, Chad and Lugh are still beasts, Lilina is way too powerful, and Shanna continues being super useful support.
! Also, apparently it splits for here? I guess I'm going North due to visiting the left village. I hear that one gives you the better units/gonzales, so yay!

Decided to go against everyone advices and going for all the gaiden chapters, the last victims were Palla and Catria because I already have Caeda and Minerva can't wait to get Tiki so that I can finally kill Bantu.
The funny part is thatI still recruit all units so that I can take their weapons and let the enemies kill then, the only exceptions were Mathis because fuck him and Roger ( acidenttly kill him with Barst lol).

Blitzed a bunch of FE6 last night
! Got both chapter 10A and 11A completed.
! 10A was very forgettable, super easy and everything was just convenient. Even the scary Berserker got demolished by Fir, who is turning out amazing. Wendy, Sue, Noah and Oujay are all also continuously doing work, and when things go wrong Lilina and Lugh punch holes in teams. With so many axes and ballistae, Shanna has mostly been mobility and support, but every now and then she's an emergency extra unit that can take care of even axes in order to help around.
! Only sucky think about this one was the nosferatu boss, but then he got critted by Fir, so that's that.
! The next chapter though, was a clusterfuck of nonsense. I can hardly recall any other Fire Emblem chapter pressuring me from three-five different directions. I was going all cute and shit doing a dry run and doing fantastically, then Klein arrives. I recruit him without problem, but then Brigands and goodbye villages. Then Tate appears and I talk to her with Shanna but nope, now they're dumbass NPCs who get doubled BY A SHAMAN into death. And then I read and apparently you need to keep these assholes alive in order to unlock more promotion items. So I try rescuing a few, and then boom, three extra fighters and echidna in the middle to add to the cluster, and one of my units dies due to dodge being less as a result of carrying useless NPCs, and so the reset came to be.
! Second try I realized I needed a north team to even come close to reaching the villages, and to calm down the amount of axes and archers. So I used Shanna to move Fir, Noah and Saul, expedited with the help of Lalum, and then between Fir and Noah they massacre all these assholes on the northern end, so that I was able to get the northern villages without issue.
! Meanwhile, down south, Oujay, Sue, Roy and Lilina are tearing, giving openings to Gonzales who I had to train from level 5. Jesus do axes miss like it's nobody's business, but this guy picks up pretty quickly. I also really enjoy the idea of this ugly as sin and stupid to boot guy being Lilina's choice instead of Roy. So that's being set up.
First run I was using Wendy as well, who supports nicely with Oujay, but realizing I needed mobility, I switched her out for Lance, who admittedly didn't do much but function as another mobility unit.
! It was all going well until Klein and Tate decided that this time their AI would behave irrationally differently. Where Klein approached before, this time he decided to chill an extra turn and let the archers wind up forming a barrier against him. So I had one choice: try to keep archers alive but fail to go through them in order to save the village, or kill one of the bastards, drive by with Clarine to recruit Klein, and then have him save the village. Ultimately went for the later figuring I only really need one Orion's Bolt for Sue, so I'll just get it later or w.e.
I was pleasantly surprised much later when one of the villages just up and gave me the Orion's Bolt. Woohoo!
! And then Tate began nearing at the same time echidna happened, and I had to do some sick maneuvering to save Lalum while still using her to recruit Echidna. Meanwhile Tate was camping like a jerk where I could not reach her, and then eventually she decides to attack Klein. Klein, also known as that guy she was just talking to. Jesus lady, you're nuts.
! As that bullshit was getting solved, I managed to make a barricade just in time to bottleneck the cavaliers, Oujay and Fir cleaned up the bandits, and after killing the cavalier carrying the killer lance the rest just fell apart. And then began the long long process of arena abuse. Figured I'm at that point where I want to promote units I like, so I brought a bunch of them to level 20, caught up Gonzales, and gave Roy some needed boost in levels. Boss didn't have a chance against a Lilina with support from both Roy and Gonzales.
! And that means the second I go to the next chapter, I get to promote: Fir, Sue, Noah, Saul and Shanna. And to boot, apparently the villagers liked me enough to give me a hero's crest, so Oujay is next.
! Kinda really hype about Fir, and Sue as well. Both of them just wreck, particularly in the arena where NO ONE would touch them. They just dodge every attack and then crit every now and then, it's amazing.
Having a good For is nice, since an unlucky one (not even a bad one) can give you fits. And that Hero Crest is for saving all the villages. But yeah, that chapter turns into a disastrous shitshow with variable AI and it's a little bit glorious.
Having promoted units by Chapter 12 means you're overleveled like crazy, since the game kind of plans on you starting to promote around Chapter 14. So you're very likely to breeze through the next few chapters.
In my own Echoes playthrough, I'm most of the way through Part 3. And wow, those bases on Sonya are ridiculous! Will probably take a little time off to train up her, Jesse, and Est while Alm does…something.
Who are these people?
They are from Marth's second game, Mystery of the Emblem. Rody and Luke were two of the three starting Cavaliers you would get in the game (the third one was Cecil/Cecille/whatever, and she was way cooler).
The two ladies, however, are from the remake of Mystery of the Emblem, which never reached American shores because US sales for Shadow Dragon was so bad. Although, Athena WAS playable in Shadow Dragon.
Interesting that Katarina is playable so soon, considering…

Finished Part 3 of Echoes and some characters are seriously underperforming (Python is just finally starting to be useful, and Atlas hasn't gained speed in approximately a year) but I'm enjoying it for the most part. Sonia is seriously good! And somehow Alm cruised through his first Part 4 chapter while Celica is struggling.

Whoops! I think I was mixing up Python and Forsyth (although the former has even less skill)
I've hit the start of Act 4, and man these new overworld and map tracks are so good, to te point where I'm getting irked at the usual battle music constantly interrupting them.
I ended up having more trouble with the Temple of Mila at the end of Act 3 than at the Sluice Gate even though I had assumed that keeping Delthea alive would've been pretty difficult - it wasn't. Her AI was smart enough to avoid attacking people who could fight back and refrain from battle herself when she could no longer spam Aura. The only obnoxious part of that map that stuck with me was a few turnwheel usages because Clair really did not want to dodge that Death spell.
Alm's currently working his way through the Fear Shrine right now, and I actually got pretty deep in one attempt until Alm took a 4% crit on the chin. Man, I was pissed! Incidentally, I decided to make my Atlas an Archer and he's actually doing pretty well in the role right now. Across all the archer characters and villager promotes (Kliff in my case) he's second only to Leon thanks to that really high HP and Attack stat.

Atlas is an archer for me too, because I really love archers in this game. Attacking from 4-5 spaces deep is just so freaking good Cleared the Fear Shrine and Dolth Keep on my run, which means Alm just promoted. And also Delthea because jesus christ that girl is a fucking nuke. Milked a couple extra levels out of her since she kept gaining experience at a decent clip anyway. Seriously, the Est archetype should be named after her instead.
I'm into Act 3 of Echoes now and it's a joy seeing all the curveballs this game throws at you. Like the extra baddies that show up on the map. Or that Atlas and the Pegasus sisters will leave your party if you go too far off course.

First thing I noticed is that the game froze when I tried to select data transfer, so either the copy is a little wonky, my Wii is shoddy, or I can just try it another time. Oh well, rest of the game works just fine.
The ScrubDawn Brigade aren't the best but you need buildup for Ike and pals. Micaiah/Leonardo get two shotted by everyone, but it hurts more with Edward, who takes more melee hits to begin with. Axes in Tellius are powerful, and even with weapon triangle, Eddie gets 2HKO by fighters.
And Laura has the defense of a paper clip but she's a healer so it's fine. ….her crippling 5 speed means she gets doubled, which is insult to injury. At least Nolan rocks and Sothe is your Jagen.

So the data transfer was indeed borked by the easy mode file on PoR; deleting it makes it work just fine. I'll save it for the eventual Hard mode run, whenever that is.
Chapter 3 was a lot less of a headache once I just focused everyone left (and got Aran), and realized the bottom knights didn't move. I HATE when you see the whole range but it doesn't signify this. It's one of the things I miss from later titles.
Chapter 4 was amazingly designed in my opinion, kill the laguz too fast (and tigers HURT) and you miss the treasure….which I did. Rip Seraph Robe. Meg is....well, she's not Wendy, so points for that.
The support system is a little disappointing tho. It's very cool that the game shows you the bonuses but convos have been relegated to generic battle talk. It's probably a "too many characters" issue, plus the fact that many RD characters are reoccuring so what new thing could they show....? Nah, no real excuse.
It also seems a little limited. I did Edward/Nolan C for that sweet earth bonus but I couldn't support Eddie or Nolan with someone else on the side. Maybe you get more once you get a little further.
