here are some ideas for my upcoming indie game jrpg

      • retro graphics as seen in my favorite childhood games like chrono trigger, final fantasy vi, suikoden and clayfighter 63 1/2, which used some advanced techniques like rotoscoping with live clay people. my game will have rotoscoping.

      • when party members basiaclly fuck off, the main guy says "okay time to get in my pocket" and they actually walk into the character model and disappear. but they are really in the main character's pocket and the game will acknowledge this basically a lot. this is actually almost the entire script so far.

      • lots of retro references to stuff like the NES and meta stuff. Just lots of meta stuff. like at some point the main guy is gonna be like, yo why am I waiting to get smacked up my head by that goblin why cant i just walk over and hit him? the main villain will be like shit he's right. but the game will still use an ATB system dont worry.

      • there is a scene where i walk up to the alien and say "i eat tougher shits for you before i make my breakfast". at the end of the game, when we blow up the space ship evil, it is falling to earth and breaking apart in the atmosphere. it will cut to a guy barbecuing and part of one of the generic alien mooks will land in it and he will scream like a bitch. observant players will note that is called a brick joke, as seen on the tv tropes website

      suggestions? your own ideas? advice?

How can you make a JRPG if you're not in Japan/Japanese.

Title implies that there was one before, what was it? You should call the game Pokeman and get rich out of the confusion.

I've always wanted to make an artsy indie platformer with some qualities of a VN with no human dialogue.
It would have clean flash graphics,
            no music,
and just sound effects to add a sense of immersion.
Some areas would make all the graphics appear black in a white background to give that sense of loneliness.

You'd be playing the role of a dog in a non-humane animal shelter, and your goal would be to save your dog friends from being put down.
But issues arises when it comes to your choices at the shelter, as the game moves on to an even greater plot after the escape.
You see, the dogs you choose to save have individual personalities. Some in which would help or screw you over in later chapters. Other dogs you leave behind can also escape and screw you over too.
It's a deep story about loyalty, friendship, betrayal and sadness.
It will feature over 100 endings, and one special ending where you and a certain party of dogs finds a home in a million dollar mansion with a caring owner.

Inspired by all your favorite movies with animals. Like 101 Dalmations.

And Lancer02/Basil was the main character the entire time!

@Hiroy: And it all takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting…

That's a great idea. It would add to the pretentiousness of it for sure.
But there are segments of the game where I'd want to have some of the dogs visiting their old homes and probably seeing thier old owners.
This would probably be one of the deeper parts of the game. As you'd discover not only memories, but revelations that changes the goals of dogs in your party.
Sometimes you'd find that some dogs were replaced, and it would either drive them to sadness or even leave the party permanently in order to seek out revenge.

Okay, maybe this is too good an idea. Post-apocalyptic setting it is.

I'd play a Fallout game where your character was a dog…

! Also, that last plot point reminds me of Fallout's (and Fallout 3's) ending, where you return to the vault after your journey and are then told to leave, because the wasteland has changed you too much. Too bad Fallout 1 doesn't let you kill the overseer without requiring a lot of luck.

Weird, remove the "no music" part and you have the game that I am currently working on. (Well I intend to put some ambiant music into the game, eventually… when I'll find a musician...)

The bad guy is the leader of the Penguin Mafia, an evil cult bent on teaching little kids how to swear. His name is Miguel Pandemoneum and he has the power of making people unable to control their tongue.

                          Genius, amirite?
