Yakitate is the best cooking manga in my opinion. Sure it totally goes off the deep end after and during the Monaco arc but I think it has a great combination of absurdity and seriousness. The characters are decent, the plot is ludicrous but enjoyable and it's somehow all about BREAD.

Well, this year I broke my rule of "not before chapter 100" with AssClass, Barrage and this one.
It's the down to earth version of Toriko, with actual real food. Let's see how it goes.

I complained about turning the ecchi-fanservice down a bit for feeling "perverted", but it really gives the manga its own unique identity. It seems wrong now to ask for that. And it's funny.
! Plus the art is really pretty. Those detailed background shots in the beginning of the chapter were really nice.

Chapter 6 was as solid as any before it. Which seems like a redundant statement, but man, Saeki's art's been working crazy overtime on keeping this looking as good as possible, huh
! Also, the old lady Fumio's reaction is easily in my top three now, along with the honey and gorilla/knee-buckler one

! Hopefully next chapter starts a new arc or at least introduces new rivals/fun characters. A chapter of just Soma cooking something and having someone realizing how special his cooking is can only happen so many times before it gets stale (though I'm still enjoying it).
! That ending scene though was pretty funny. Feel so bad for her. -

It was really good, despite some people who actually don't read the manga complaining, it actually does put cooking as the focal point of the manga, not just "lol random ecchi". The latter is an accent, not the main dish.
Also, lol at how much gap there is between 7th and 10th.
Isshiki is far more suitable as super chef, unlike the tsundere moron girl.And I like how fiesty Soma is, immediately going for the ultimate question.

To be fair, if I didn't "read" any of it and just looked at the pretty pictures, I would be fooled that it's an ecchi manga. It sure looks like it based strictly on the picture, but there are definitely a lot of neat tips in the comic that I would love to try out (obviously it probably wouldn't result in orgasmic results). It is great to see that the author has a strong sense for cooking and is demonstrating his knowledge (as well as tossing in some harmless fanservice). After all, the author could have EASILY created a predictable high school romance comic instead, but chose to produce something far more valuable.
Good for him. I'm glad this serie is staying afloat.

Mangapanda are scum and no decent scanlation group out there wants to have anything to do with them. The watermark that their online reader automatically slaps on any scanlation they upload there doesn't have any meaning or justification whatsoever.

If the reaction images were to be combined, it might have had a counterproductive effect: girls would question the presence of naked girls and guys would question the presence of a naked guy. This way everyone gets their share of fanservice pie. Certainly would have been funnier though.

! Nice American bikini…and overall design. I was not expecting that for a meat assassin (pretty hot).

Not that excited about the battle just because the outcome's obvious given the stakes (I realize it's a douche thing to complain about given it's still early so of course he'd win all of his early matches, but it could've been written with more tension I think). But Soma does wants to create a new don dish, so maybe the competition will allow him to do that.
! Also wondering if Soma will end up joining this club or another. Still, this is classic shonen manga hero and it fits for him given his dislike of pompous people that only like rich ingredients. -

Using good ingredients makes getting good results easier, I can see where Soma is coming, if you can only cook delicious food with good ingredients, it's like always winning on "Easy".

Besides that soma's staredown with her was nice. I wonder if betting recipes could become a main currency for shokugekis but then we have these characters knowing how something is made after one bite.

Although overlooked due to the appeal of the new babelicious character, I'm kinda looking forward to the don-club leader's potential too. He may be spineless, but his recipes could impress Soma, so he probably is worth a lot more than he lets on.

Don? On Weekly Shounen Jump? It's asking for it. Hell, even the "fast, cheap, delicious" is quoted.(Kinnikuman anime is attributed to be responsible for the gyu-don fad in the 80s.
