Also notice how we're lowkey(maybe not just lowkey) demoting Erina to damsel in distress. Characters are basically all just a horseshit joke by now. Feels bad when I think back to having stuff like Tadokoro being amazing at Ping Pong. It's really engaging when the lack of characterization and relying on cheap tropes consistently robs side characters of all agency. If the manga resolves in Soma losing but Erina learning something from this match that will let her win it all in the end I'm going to tip my head a little. But I doubt we're going with that. @MDL:
Yeah, Tosh's art was a big draw for me when this series first started building momentum. As things stand, he definitely deserve better story material to work with.
Given that the artists forte seems to be drawing bodies in general my hope would be a martial arts based battle manga.

It's a shame at how much screentime the Nakiri have got. Yet the only 1 I like has been irrelevant since losing to Soma over 200 chapters.

And there it is, bringing Asahi back just to give a back story that is stupid and only makes things worse. If this was supposed to redeem him it only makes him look so much worse. The only great moment that would've made for a good story in a better manga was Mana tasting the dish and smirking as Asahi. So now with this we will show that Soma can be a better chef and husband/father than Asahi with how in your face the Mana/Asahi and Soma/Erina parallels are. Of course I fully expect no actual relationship to happen at the end and leave it "ambiguous".
Pro of this chapter, it actually got to Bleach levels of bad, as in there is a sort of charm to just how bad it is. Also, we got Alice, but for some reason it was just to reintroduce us to Asahi. Dammit she deserves so much better than last minute cameo.

I will say. I I do like Azami more this way than his villainous self. But it's still weird overall since Mana was never mentioned during his reign and monologues. Not even a hint I recall. I kinda would have preferred Mana not be alive. Basically she abandoned her daughter to him and he was still using her. Like..it's all so messy and can't be explained well.

Let me see, with Eirina out of the list, the elite ten were:
Soma, Aldini (elder), Megumi
Alice, Ryo, Hayama
Chinesse cusine guy, Eizan, I wana say Nene?
And before I check the wiki.. the "standby" were Aldini (younger) and secretary, no 3rd years, no new characters, none of the hanger on to the regiment du cusine, none of polaris dorm losers.
Can't remember… Oh, it was Ishiki. Duh. Wiki says that everyone on the side of the rebels who participated got a seat by that match, so Mimikasa would have been an elite 10 for some time, but someone (probably Eizan and Nene, but the list includes Hayama, Alice and Ryo) kicked him out, and Megumi (and somehow Aldini and Hisako as well) have keept him at bay.

About a good a chapter as I could hope for.
! As mean as it would be, I was hoping Soma was going for a much more brutal take down of Asahi. Since he was an orphan I was expecting Soma to say you've never tasted a mothers cooking. Speaking of mothers, I liked Soma's mother's design and she had a fun personality. Would've been nice if she had a presence in this series outside of that very small flashback, but we can't focus on the fun and interesting characters.
! I really hope with this being hyped up the reaction is actually good, though it's probably going to be a montage of just people in a large radius outside the arena getting stripped. -

If you've been paying attention, it's because you are a nerd with nothing better to do. What was of Souma and Erina, you ask? Well, they both had a baby.

So here we are at the end, with nothing to show. This final arc made the Azami stuff look like competent writing since at least there was time to give some build up, except for the fact this arc tried to make Azami look like an ok guy for having "legitimate" reasons for being abusive to his own daughter. This whole God Tongue subplot was shoved in last minute for no rhyme or reason that Erina going back to her normal self showed how contrived it was. I'm fine with the whole unwillingness to say it's delicious, but the build up to this just wasn't there. This chapter really shows everything that this series has become, which is Soma does a thing and everyone reacts because they are no longer characters. If I ever suggest this series I'll tell people to watch the first two seasons of the anime and stop there, ending on the idea that Soma and company have a long journey of becoming the best but they will have fun along the way.

I realize the whole Blue battle wrapped up in the Semis, but it bugged me Erina didn’t have a chance to make a dish her mom would say is delicious, or that she didn’t try Soma’s dish at all. The whole mom being the judge bit fell at the wayside.
The lesson for Erina was there to constantly improve, and the whole finale about being constantly challenged works if not rushed like it was.
Last thing that has been bothering me since the Azami arc ended is that Soma doesn’t seemed to have gained any new skills while being the 1st seat. Everything he’s done feels like stuff he learned from his time at his diner.

First chapter of the "sequel" time jumps about a year & Soma randomly left to go "training" during the time skip, so he wasn't actually in the chapter, just some flashbacks. Good color fan-service page, though.
Next chapter we get Sabia telling how he met Tamako, so more about Soma's mom.
