Don't forget to thank Azami for that. He is the sole cause of all Erina's character development. Nonsensycal system aside we cannot deny the dude was a wonderful catalyst.

So, azami is basically a tool (which a lot of fans are saying btw)?
Actually, I completely didn't care for Erina's sob story with azami. It affected my view negatively on Erina. it gives her a "free pass" for acting like a bitch.
But the "little girl who has to shoulder the burden of the Nakiri family"? I can relate more to that. I would have prefer the author focus on this aspect.

We can't have two Nakiri in the same team, that would be too much. In the meantime you can enjoy yourself watching how Alice livens up the mood.

I'm talking about in general. After the AE, she became a comic relief character. She missed the deadline for the festival. Then she joined up with Hayama & completely screwed them over. They end up in the bottom while Erina was no 2 in the High town area. The author never even gave resolution to that festival plot point…

And what's wrong with having another strong member on the team? Some people are already calling a**pull on the current lineup being "weak" against the E.10. If Isshiki, Kuga, & the other guy weren't there, people were be screaming even louder.

Because unlike Soma who's more shonenish, Erina is realistic. She is, or was until recently, a sheltered, haughty girl who wasn't raised like any common child. She was sheltered, had an awful upbringing which affected her greatly. And to top that she was born with the best palate. All her life until recently Erina had done nothing but taste dishes, never had time to spend outside her sheltered life, never had the luxury of spending some time outside, to have fun like the other children. By the time she was in middle school she was no different than her father: insulting commoners, calling anyone who dared defy her a burden or annoyance, destroying or absorbing other companies and restaurants, play dirty in order to expel anyone who dared to make even the smallest intent to challenge her. Basically, Erina had a life unlike what someone of her age should be doing. So much that in a special chapter where Alice forcefully took her outside, Erina felt she was out of touch with her surroundings. During her stay in Polar Star she was lost as she didn't even know how to operate a washing machine. Justified, as the maids in her household would do all the work for her.

The upbringing of a child is very important. Parents must raise and teach their children properly in order to make sure they will be capable of doing stuff on their own when they grow and become adults. Erina had an upbringing beffiting that of a shelted princess.

She has since then become more sociable, cheerful, able to enjoy life, showing concern for others, even acknowledge when someone made a dish worth of her aproval. And the air of arrogance she displayed sometimes is now used for comedic relief when Soma annoys her with his usual antics.

I liked her character before, now I like her even more.

Literally all the characters in this series are kinda shounen stereotype & most of the are realistic in a way. Even Megumi is the typical shy girl who grew confidence as the series goes on. Nothing wrong with it though as it depend on the author's execution. Erina's character is pretty much a trope.

Also, these character from other series that had a sheltered upbringing. Some became nicer as the series goes on. Some are clueless of how the real world works.

SnS seems like such a commercial sellout series that I can't imagine the series just deciding that it needs to end. I'd think that it would try to last as long as possible before it gets cancelled.

@Nekketsu the other day, I was feeling a little bit moe about Erina. I understand, somewhat, how you feel about Erina and what's there to appreciate about her character arc, but I think the conflict is that the arc is so cliched that it doesn't feel like a positive point, even if was 'earned'.

Another annoyance of this arc…

Erina was the only one that got major development in this arc (While Soma appear the most, he was kinda static).
Takumi & Megumi are going to get some development now because the author remember them.
I guess Hayama got some (or not because he's still all about Jun).

I'm all for Erina getting her character development but it took FOREVER & at the expense of ignoring almost the other characters. I could barely care then. Though to be fair, she was ignored for the first 130 chapters. Hopefully, next arc, it goes back to focusing on most of the character.

As for Alice, she did got some moments. But I don't ever expect the author to ever give her a "cooking-related moment". She's now stricly the comic-relief character.

I don't care about those characters. And unlike Alice never had any hype to begin with. Alice was supposed to be a major rival to Soma and the other elites freshmen. But the author treated her like a idiot she's such a disappointment of a character.

I have to admit, the drawing gave me a laugh.

Fun as it was, though, it's hitting the point of unbelievability for Soma to beat a master on their own turf with whatever idea came off the top of his head. If they had a week to prepare or something, then sure, but it'll be hard to swallow a Soma victory if we get one. What are the rules again? Were they doing this by knockout, where someone who loses can't play again?

I really hope we didn't just gloss over Mechashiva's recruitment, too. Maybe that'll come up in a few chapters?

I remember arguing here with people that would prefer the cooking duels over the character building. Well we got tons of cooking duels and not a whole lot of character building except for Erina. Wasted potential. Finish it. I want the dude to start some kind of battle manga.

While it fit in with Azami's regime, the jail thing was borderline abuse. It was really weird.

While the lot drawing thing was kinda funny, it's reek of the usual "Soma underdog" in a forced manner. Because you know Soma will definitely ein in this case.

I'm not too worry about Soma supposedly beating an expert in Soba since he has 2 assistance who are specialise in japanese cuisine.

I can't say I'm particularly disappointed with this development. The main reason I decided to read this manga is because I just love the idea of cooking showdowns, and I'm a sucker for food manga.
So for all the character mismanagement and poor development, I'm actually kinda excited for the upcoming battles. I wanna see Souma take advantage of his 'peasant' cooking style again.

I liked the chapter, I can right? Nice exposition of techniques, little backstory, little flashback, acknowledging the steps Souma has taken (not just some random goofing….while still goofing). Yeah, it was nice IMO.

I think it was pretty good. It's a nice reminder of what makes Souma's style what it is. He's making a good meal for the everyday person, so he's using techniques and preferences that the everyday person are most exposed to.

Nene isn't a bad opponent either, she's got the utmost confidence in her skills, but she's definitely acknowledging that Souma's on her tail and that any small mistakes will cost her the match.

I only just now realized the thread title change.

I also liked the chapter and nice that while the masses think Soma is just an idiot, the more experienced understand what Soma is doing, though they still a bit over confident. Now hopefully soon we can get the advantage of this whole style of Shokugeki and have the others help out. Though it feels weird that they are being given two hours for the match, because that seems like a long time for one match, taking out the need to have extra help.

And Nene's whole characterization and background should have been done before, not during the match we all know she will lose.

I think the author make it clear that Nene's soba quality will be better BUT Soma's overall dish will triumph (with the help of the other 2).
I'm glad that the author avoided the cliche "The prodigy child who is burden by her responsibility & envy her friends because they have freedom."

Honestly, I'm getting kinda tired of Soma beating people at their speciality but not really at the same time. His derp face is starting to feel forced.

I'm also starting to wonder if the author has something against traditional or high-class food…lol

The artist should do action manga next. He has the skills to potray movement well.
I don't like Rindou but that panel with Isshiki complementing her hairstyle was just cute. Isshiki x Rindou make it happen.

Isshiki being the hidden badass was expected.
But it's kinda weird that nobody seem to be aware of Isshiki's background when his family is supposedly famous. He probably got "kicked out" for always goofing of or the naked apron thing.
Still don't really care for Isshiki's match but Isshiki is a character I look out for.

I'm really liking the last few chapters. Not that I hated the arc since I'm one of the few who is fine with the Central/Azami plot but I was starting to worry that the "Regiment de cuisine" arc would have to be rushed.

About Isshiki, I always pictured him as a powerhouse whose seat (7th) didn't reflect his actual skill.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he's much stronger than Kinokuni (btw I wonder if we will learn who won the previous Fall Classic). Actually, even learning about a victory or draw he had in a previous shokugeki against Tsukasa doesn't seem too farfetched to me.
